"the Intimidator"

You loved him or you hated him, there was no in between. Such was his outlook on life, black or white, right or wrong...nothing grey about it. He took time to mentor younger drivers. He was the devoted Husband and Father, of all his children. Avid outdoorsman and conservationist. Savvy businessman, self-taught in that field, despite never graduating high school. Dale was all these and more.

To say that I miss him, both on and off the track, would be an understatement of huge proportions.

Now I root for Jr. and Kevin. I was happy for Matt last year, being a WI boy who made the grade (thanks to Mark Martin).

But I don't sacrafice doing something else to watch the race week in and week out like I used too...it's just not the same without the #3 out there.

Thanks Mo...great thread. ^5's
Thanks 69 and everyone else that has taken the time to stop by and speak your mind!!

I say give it a chance. Will make the last 10 races a dog fight for those in contention. I'll reserve judgement until November.

I am like you, I wil just wait and see how it turns out.
I have never been to a winston cup race and never will now. Still cant grasp that NEXTEL crap. They said during the race that Jeff Gordon was a 4 time nextel cup champion?????? do we have to pretend like Winston Cup never existed now or what???
I have been to the Kansas speedway but it was to see the craftsmen trucks race. I am going to make it to one if it is the last thing i do though.

Good Morning all you NASCAR fans :D

Well the boys are off to Atlanta this weekend, fastest track in nascar. Anyone wanna make any predictions? Ya think Jr will be on a mission after his disasterous weekend in las Vegas? I am not sure who I like yet. Sure would be nice if Jarrett won it.

Race day is just 4 days away :D

Predictions

Kevin loves this track, B. Lab has won here too. It's a tough one to call. Jr is definitly looking for a good showing to get back in the points. Matt is due to finish out of the top 10, Ryan is just plain old fast every where.

I hoping K dawg can pull it out, but my gut tells me that Kasey will be strong.

Well of course you know that i will be cheering for Jarett, i always do. But i also think that Stewart and Harvick will be tough.
Kasey has been quite impressive so far this year, he is definately one to keep your eye on

for those who care, Qualifying will be on SPEED starting at 3 pm eastern, Friday march 12th.

Don't get me wrong, I like DJ too...BUT...when ask Kevin stepped up and is working on filling some damn big shoes. That first year he really stepped in, last year the team was trying to adjust to him and it showed. I've got a good feeling about this year.

He may not win 'em all but there is a championship or 8 in his future. :D

Having met Kevin a few times, at Fan Club Gatherings, I can say that he is one of the coolest people you'll meet. Last time was at the FCG last year...Charolotte race in October that was a dog fight with Kenseth. I told him it was a hell of a show, his response was "you aint seen nothing yet". He and D are a total class act.

NASCAR Imax

Any one going tomorrow?? I can't wait to see this one to be sure.

Yes he did have some BIG shoes to fill, but he showed very quickly that he has the talent and desire. I am sure that Dale is watching from that big high banked oval in the sky and isnt the least bit disappointed in Kevin.
You know, I really enjoy watching cars go fast and turn left. I am a whole hearted #88 fan but i also enjoy watching most of the rest of them too. I say most because to be honest with you i just dont like Jeff Gordon. I will give him his props, he is a very skilled driver, but he is just one of those people that i love to hate. Never have liked Spencer much, i cant say that i miss him !!!

NASCAR Imax update

OK folks, if you get the chance you have got to go see NASCAR the IMAX Experience. I just got home from watching it. Even people who don't really care for racing like it, so that should tell you something.

They did Dale Sr. justice. As they were showing clips of the 2001 Datona 500 at the finish tears were streaming out and I kept saying "Don't show it, don't show it..." thank God they didn't but they had a really super tribute. Showed lots of tracks, 'Dega, Daytona, Martinsville, Bristol, Charolotte and maybe a few others.

As expected there was lots of Jr. and Mikey and JJ. Kev didn't have a speaking spot but the 29 sure got plenty of camera time.

All in all, 10 thumbs up!!

The opening is funny as hell. JJ and Ryan as bootleggers...nuff said there.

GO SEE IT!!!!!!

they should call it "The Nascar Cup", sponsored by Nextel, opr if speaking of the past, sponsored by Winston. Winston sure did nascar a ton of good for a lot of years and shouldn't get dumped by johnny come lately nextel

That red car didn't even finish last week, darlin' :(

Though, that theory would explain why my Mikey has been faring so poorly. ;)

I hate to break this to you, but I've been to many races. NASCAR is real and racing is so much fun. It's not just the race, it's the whole experience, the vender area in the parking lot, the fans, the smell, the sound.

I would if it were closer. It sounds great. At Nascar.com there is a story about Kiefer Sutherland and how his views change about NASCAR after doing the voiceovers for the IMAX show... you might want to read it.

The site has changed a great deal since NEXTAL came on board. I have a hard time finding things there...unless it is right in my face...
Glad you found it worthwhile.

I'm not too crazy about the redesign either but I don't think Nextel had much to do with it. IMHO it was a planned thing but I totally agree, it's much harder to find things now.

you think not?

perhaps it was someone's brilliant idea to change things around...just for the fun of it? With all the change that's been going on with NASCAR I can see that it might not be Nextel's doing...

Gee kind of is stinky still.

I totally get what you mean frodo...I used to go out with a guy who was in the pit crew for John Harrison. JH raced dirt track at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Vermont. I have never been to a paved track, but I tell ya that a thrill always went through me at the start of every race. The thunder of the engines! damn! The sound was almost orgasmic to me! :)

Well, think about it...when I first started getting in to it it was called Grand National, next came Winston Cup, now its Nextel Cup. I may be showing my age but the first time that I went to 'Dega there were less than 30k people there. Now it's up to over 200k.

Every thing changes, not to change means stagnation and eventually death. Change just means we have to adjust how we look at things...point scheme comes to mind...:)
