Another Democrat Threat To Freedom Thrown Out

Never been there but I have read of them. I have a handbook around here with the different state's gun laws. Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, AZ, aren't bad.

State constitution makes it illegal for any authority to pass any restriction which supersedes federal law. No license, no registration, no background checks (I could be wrong on that one)...Most liberal gun laws in the country. I was amazed.

Vermont has very few gun control laws. Gun dealers are required to keep a record of all handgun sales. It is illegal to carry a gun on school property or in a courthouse. State law preempts local governments from regulating the possession, ownership, transfer, carrying, registration or licensing of firearms.[292]
The term "Vermont Carry" is used by gun rights advocates to refer to allowing citizens to carry a firearm concealed or openly without any sort of permit requirement. Vermont law does not distinguish between residents and non-residents of the state; both have the same right to carry while in Vermont.
The Vermont constitution of 1793, based partly on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, guarantees certain freedoms and rights to the citizens: "That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the State — and as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; and that the military should be kept under strict subordination to and governed by the civil power."[293]
Note: The Federal Gun Free School Zone Act of 1995 severely limits where an unlicensed person may carry.

My my, all that freedom and Vermont is not the murder capital of the United States, like Washington D.C. and other heavily regulated cities.

Imagine that?

It's funny...my mil has a Colt .38 PP--nice gun, I think it was her father's or something--and I used to tease her because it wasn't registered, call her a scofflaw and such. Then I looked up the laws and realized I could carry it concealed if I wanted to...

PP? Are you speaking of a Colt .38 Super?

Yeah, a collectible albeit not legendary. There are only two, OK, three, pistols I'd really love to own. The Colt .38 Super, the S&W 41, and the Browning Hi-Power.

Ishmael

I'll trade you my Hi-Power for a C-96 Mauser.
;)

I keep seeing it in old movies.

I have a 1917 Wafenfabrik, but I'm not that interested in trading it. I keep threatening to re-work the damn thing but even with iron sights it will shoot as well as most I own out to 300 meters. And the truth be told if my eyes were still young I wouldn't hesitate to push it out to 500 or more.

I've re-barreled and ' sporterized every Brno and La Coruna I've owned. But I haven't touched that 1917. If I ever burn out the barrel I'll do something with it.

Popular and cheap. It was the 'Saturday Night Special' of it's day. And what you see in the movies may also be S&W Model 10's. Both pistols looked very much alike and to the novice would be hard to tell apart except for the cylinder rotation.

Is the c-96 you have re-barreled? What about the stock?

Most of them I see are these days have the bore re-done. I wouldn't mind even picking up one of the 9mm conversions, but those seem to even be fetching a bit more than I'd like to spend.

I am almost apt to drop the money to just get a cheap Astra or Chinese knock-off...

Yup. I did a little research on it, because mil was pretty much clueless. "Oh, yes, Daddy's gun...where did I put it again?"

She claims there's ammo somewhere in the house. Speaking of which, ammo stored in a closet somewhere...how long will it still be useable?

It's original with mathing #'s. The only thing it's missing is the forestock. Still has the bayonet lug and the flip up rear sight calibrated to 1500 meters.
