I dont understand how people see dominant or submissive as a "role" they play? Isnt it something that should come natural as to who you are at your core?

Of course. I referred Lady2020's post about most people having D/s sides. For many they are just some small or smallish variation around the median. It doesn't mean they'd even get excited about taking that role in the bedroom.
