Good morning, DreamWeaver

I opened my house and am sitting here sipping coffee before I have to do something even resembling work. This is the best part of the day during the summer.

Got plans for the day?

Bumpety, bump, bump
Humpety, hump, hump

Plans for today? Finish off my work week in a few hours, hopefully spend at least a few hours getting tattooed this evening. Other than that, I really have no plans aside from obvious catch up on housework-bleh, how does anyone keep a house in order and work full time?

Saguaro--early morning is the greatest in the summer, sipping coffee outside, listening to the birds chirp, and relaxing before the scorching sun comes up completely. I wish I did more of that.

I was wondering, are any of you Arizona natives? I rarely meet any. I'm one of those odd third generation natives, although I've lived plenty of other places.

I thought the south was absolutely beautiful, everything is green, but I don't miss the humidity or mosquitos. Sometimes I miss big cities, but there's something to be said for beautiful clear starry nights in the desert, and the sunsets.

Enjoy your weekend!

Not me i'm A newbie ... from SanDiego ... I grew up in Fla & Ky ...I love the east ....but I moved back to CA in 1993 then here about 6 almost 7 months ago

Almost native

I've been here in The Valley long enough to say, "I remember when...
The stockyards had the restaurant + acres and acres of cattle;
University east of ASU was called Transmission;
ASU had real streets running through it;
Desert Samaritan and Mesa CC were a vacant fields;
And Baseline was lined with many fields of flowers.

As Phoenix is a relatively young and robust city, so am I!

;)

Good Morning Zonies...

Native?? not me.. only beeen in Arizona since May 1973. came to Phoenix on May 28, 73. Moved to Tucson in in 92 for 5 yrs and moved back up here to Mesa, in sept. 97.

Saguaro, I remember eating at the Stockyards, and even had a Majic store at Legend City in Summer of 73.

Legend City was an Amusement Park here in Phoenix.. you couldnt even find it now.. too many buildings there now. They tore it down yrs ago.

WEll, happy Sunday everyone...

Majic.

Good Morning AZ!! :rose:

i'm not a native either... but i've lived between here and Michigan all my life.

i lived in Phoenix from 1973-1977, Went to school at Kenilworth, over on 7th Ave, and lived right across the street from where the I-10 tunnel is now. They literally tore down the empty lot across the street from my house to build it. :) i remember the Stockyards, and i used to go with my Dad on Sundays to clean a little pickle factory off of Van Buren called "Arnold's Pickles".

i moved back here in 1985, after graduating high school, and lived with my sisters in Mesa, off of Gilbert/McKellips, and worked in a preschool for 2 years, before heading back to MI.

i just moved back here in March 2003, for good, i hope. Living in Glendale right now, and working for MCI in Phoenix for another week.... then who knows??? :)

Hey everyone! Hope all your weekends are going great!

I'm a native Zonie, and have only ever lived in AZ. I've spent most of my life in rural AZ with the exception of 2 years in Flagstaff (89-91), then lived in South Phx (91-96), then moved back to my small home town and finally moved to Glendale/Peoria in Sept of 02.

I remember Legend City - only got to go once though when I was a real little kid (I think I was about 5) before they tore it down. How about Wallace & Ladmo?!? Ladmo bags- always wanted one :( .

I remember when there wasn't much east of Mesa, except trailer parks and snow birds - guess that has changed much ;). It's amazing how much the valley has grown in just the last 15 years!

:rose: to Sierra! (and you're going!!!)

Welcome to Darthcharming :)

Cathcha' all later

Legend City, etc.

My brother put on a pith helmet (had to pith in it every day! Sorry, that was very bad!) and was the captain in the boat-through-the-jungle ride at Legend City. Salt River Project now resides there.

Citrus was king or queen of east Mesa. McKellips east of Mesa Drive was nothing but orange groves.

Land on Camelback was expensive at less that $20K an acre. My parents bought their house (large ranch with huge yard) near Dobson and University for $16K.

Damn, I'm feeling old for some reason. Guess I better have a glass of milk and take my nap.

Saggy Saguaro;)

Look at this thread grow

Well I was born in Calif. raised there too

I've been in Arizona since Oct 76 and in Show Low since Feb 77
well over half my life here :eek:

Evening!

HO HO HA HA HEE HEE HA HA..

I definitely remember the Wallace and Ladmo Show, and I have vague memories of Legend City. I only lived in Phoenix for a year when I was 6 or 7, and then again for about a year when I was 20. But I was in Phoenix practically every other weekend, and summers growing up.

I'm living in the same small town I grew up in right now, mom was born here, grandfather as well, great grandparents were here in 1913, if not earlier. Right now I think the population is around 40k, I remember it being a little under 7k when I was five. I moved away at 18, lived in Phoenix, Flagstaff, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Dallas, Nashville, Atlanta, so I moved around quite a bit before moving back. Came back when my grandfolks were getting along in age, and was glad to spend time with them before they passed. I think it's good for my kids to grow up around family, so I have no regrets about moving back.

Hello Arizona people! I just found this thread. Although not a native, I've been here long enough to qualify. My family moved here to the Phoenix area in '75. I remember when Mesa stopped at Gilber Rd. Nothing but farmland from there to AJ. I've lived here and in Flagstaff since, with a brief sting in Portland, Oregon. Although I have a fondness for the desert, I'd move to Portland if it wasn't for the amount of family I have around here.

Ah, I have another question for the thread.

Are there any little known spots in your area that you have a particular fondness for? Outdoors, businesses, anything in general.

I have two:

Cliffs: dirt road that winds behind the downtown, within rock throwing distance of the freeway practically, but secluded. Some of the strangest cliff formations I've ever seen, caves, and a little winding wagon trail that leads back to an open secluded area. The stars are amazingly clear there. It's a great place to take a blanket and just stargaze for hours.

Spring: another secluded area right in the middle of civilization. A little natural spring hidden in the middle of brushy desert, surrounded by wild apple trees, reed and grass-especially cool after a good rain. The edge of the spring is covered in mint, and in the little spring are electric blue crawdads. It's like a little fairy tale land. Behind the spring is a 2 mile walking trail that winds up to the top of a hill. Very cool native plants, and areas that change from solid white sand, to red sand, to black, to clay.

Favorite Places

Morning, Raquel_Hell and AZ.

So many of my favorite places are changing or disappearing in the name of progress. BAH!

Laveen, a rural town (47th Avenue south of Baseline) of farmers is basically gone: developers, subdivisions, and such crap. People move to the coiuntry and destroy the country in the process.

The Chiricahua National Monument southeast of Willcox, is somewhat hidden and a fabulous place. So is Cochise Stronghold.
Please don't everyone go there at the same time!! If you have some $$, I can heartily recommend a place to stay. Ask and ye shall receive.

Willcox, way down in Cochise County, is little changed since I lived in Bisbee way back. It has the oldest general store in Arizona. Willcox is the birthplace of Rex Allen.

Florence still has some very nice Territorial houses, but it may become a suburb of Phoenix.

The Hassayampa River Preserve (Nature Conservancy) near Wickenburg is a gem.

Stores:
Forget downtown Tempe if you're not a college kid.
Changing Hands bookstore in south Tempe is independent and
absolute tops- forget the chains.
Saba's Western Wear, especially the one opposite Fiesta Mall, is
the best there is.
I love the art galleries on Marshal Way in Scottsdale.

Gotta get ready for work.

You all have a great day.
:) :)
