Ask A Librarian

I checked out a book in 1979 and never checked it back in . Are they going to come after me for the over due fees or is there a statute of limitations? It was masturbating for dummies and I thought it was worth keeping for the helpful tips.

In all likelihood, something checked out before the advent of computers became the normal method is probably long forgotten about. In all honesty, most libraries would write something lost off within two years if it was worth less then $25. It would be less hassle them maintaining it in the system or sending it to collections.

They did away with fines here for late books. Lost books you're charged the price it takes to replace it. Used to do a food for fines program here. During holidays one can took a dollar off your fine. Raised a lot of food for the homeless and soup kitchen those years.

My library is also fine free, as long as a book is returned. We do charge for lost books, but that's because it's an academic library and some of those titles are ridiculously expensive to replace.

A few years ago a lot of librarians in my state of Idaho were considering another line of work. Too much of a headache and risk involved in dealing with Christo-fascists and book bans. Has this problem worsened or calmed?

Sadly, for many places it's gotten worse. Thankfully, many libraries now train there staff how to deal with "first amendment auditors." They're usually just trying to get attention or videos for clicks, and ignoring them or just treating them like nothing bothers you tends to make them fuck right off because they aren't "owning the libs".

I think the people who ban books aren’t above burning books. No good can come from that mentality. They’re the ones who burned Beatles stuff. Lowlife in my book

Reasons for banning a lot of the books around here are stupid. If you don't like the book or cover, then don't read it or mess with it, instead, they fuss and make a big deal about it.

I love how my local library is able to find most books I want to read, some of them being obscure or old books. They aren't always able to, and I understand that. That being said..is there a network for libraries to exchange or loan books with one another if someone is wanting to read a certain book that is perhaps not so popular

None, but did get caught having sex in library once.

Which section of the library did you masturbate the most in in secret?
My brother’s wife worked at a UW library and saw a man (not a student) 20’ away holding his phone near the floor. She realized he was filming up her skirt as she sat at her desk. She summoned security and confronted him only to see him clutching his cock. He was arrested

Part of me thinks it’s just a divisive thing to do. I mean, so many books are available online. Divisive and controlling
