Hump day of course represents the fact that Wednesday is the middle of a normal work week and that by crossing the "hump" the weekend comes closer. Of course, you can do whatever you want to celebrate. It dates back to the feeling of fear when a male authority figure would punish you or make you do things. It then manifests itself into a desire to please an authority figure. It is nice though when that happens in my view.
