My baffling question: why would a man marry a woman he doesn't want to have sex with?

I'm one of the folks who is here on Lit because they're in a sexless marriage. We had sex early in dating, but it tapered off quick. I probably would have broken it off, except I was in the military and 9-11 went down, so... Well no one in the military was ok then. Would have broken it off later, but then we started going to church, so I figured he was avoiding sex because we weren't married. So we get married... And didnt consummate for 2 years 7 months. I'm not fucking kidding. After that, it was an annual event, until 2 years ago when he started dragging it out to longer. I've tried everything I can think of, read books, taken suggestions, and nothing. And, after the annual event finally goes down, he picks a nasty screaming fight right after.

So my question is: Why the fuck did he marry someone he doesn't want to have sex with???!!!

Please don't worry about sparing my feelings. After 9 years of rejection, frustration, and loneliness, it won't hurt my feelings near as much.

And no, he's not gay. I'm sure of that. And no, he's not impotent, although that is his latest excuse.

there are many reasons to be in a sexless marriage...would I be in one?...no

maybe he is gay

maybe he got married because he felt that he had to...it was his next step in life...maybe he got married to not be alone

maybe he got married because of some outside pressure



maybe you don't turn him on anymore(I don't think that is it)

I think this has to do with him more then you...maybe he feels like he does not please you...that he can't please you

maybe he feels he is not good enough for you

you are in the military...maybe he feels that he is not man enough for you

maybe something goes differently then he expects during sex and he worries that it turns you off...or it turns him off

maybe he feels he is not good at sex and he stopped liking it

maybe he feels he is not a good husband to you so he can't make love to you because he feels he does not deserve to

how do you know he's not impotent?....alot of outside stress can make men feel impotent

the fact that he picks a a nasty screaming fight the night after suggests to me that he is mad at something he is doing during sex or the act itself

He can not express that or communicate it so he takes his anger out on you

again..he may not feel good enough...like you could do better...if he feels this way he most likely thinks that you know you could do better but you stay with him because you feel you have to

I know you feel you have done everything...but start to do everything again

talk to him as calmly as you can.....suggest couples therapy and or sex therapy

I've done a lot of reading and trying, not just stuff like new lingerie, but also from a medical/ scientific standpoint.

How do I know he isn't impotent? For starters, I've seen erections. a couple times, for a week i also set my alarm to go off at night several times so that I could check his penis for erections, because a healthy man gets several erections through the night. He did; his junk works fine.

How do I know he isn't gay? I've asked him flat out a few times, and he always said no. I also studied him and his automatic responses. He gives attraction responses to women he finds attractive, like the lean, the mirror response, open body language, etc

Try everything again... I've already tried everything at least 3 times. He started meds for his bipolar. The meds are latest excuse, but at least he's less bat shit crazy. Trying some things get again, and still same lack of response.

I did get a couple pm's off this, and one was particularly helpful. It said that husband may have post coital contempt syndrome. I looked it up and it's possible.

First off I would just like to say...I am glad you have gotten some help because of your post...I think LIT can be an amazing place when we put our minds together

second I am not a doctor...don't play one on TV or in this thread and I know nothing of post coital contempt syndrome..but from the name alone that could very well be it....he is most certainly angry after sex

also he is bipolar?...that could explain it too...the types of medication you take to deal with being bipolar can lower the sex drive and play crazy games with emotions in general

I know women who are bipolar can run very hot and cold when it comes to sex...when they want it they want it all the time...but when they go cold...the sex drives can go dead for seasons...months or even years at a times

it could be the same for men

He may be gay and in denial..that would or could lead to anger. Most of the reactions you mention are like reflexes they happen when someone anyone touches us or when anyone attractive walks by
