Whether you publish anything on Amazon or not, I am curious to learn what your thoughts are on this new AI-driven feature that Amazon has launched without getting any permission from writers.

How do you feel about some artificial intelligence interpreting for readers who your characters are, the thematic elements of your plot, the tone of the story, or anything else related to what you wrote?

Not using author's permission is not what's bothering me in this case, or at least is not my primary concern. If algorithms, clickbaits, and talking heads making ragebait content heralded the end of critical thinking, a feature like this feels like it's desecrating its corpse. AI can only think just as good as the very same hamsters trying to keep running on the wheels so it doesn't power down.

Just reading the article and seeing everything poses this question to anyone wanting to use that: do you know what's better than this broken AI feature, and has been doing a much better joke for centuries than an AI would do, even with the AI reading and interpreting the book for you, as well as spoiling it for you without even giving you the exact chance to dissect it or use your brain? Notes! What you're looking for is writing notes on what you're reading! If you feel so lost when you read, write notes! Philosophers have been doing that since the day computers looked like the Antikythera mechanism! You don't need an author's permission to make notes either! You don't even need a notebook, or pieces of paper to do that! You can write in the margins of the book, and in some pieces of software you can also input your own notes through highlightning and comments!

Whoever came up with this function is the epitome of lazy.

It’s book reviewing? So now readers are no longer needed either, according to Amazon. Ai will write the books and AI will “read” and review the books too. If that’s not auto-cannibalism to the nth degree I don’t know what is.

I think I'd be curious, just in the way I'd be curious about any feedback.
I'm not sure what I think about it's reading my story without paying for it. Since all my stories are free. But still. It's an issue that needs to be dealt with.
