Avatar: Lightning strikes (OOC)

I wish you could too Y_Y.. fourth time in two months it's been a little bitch and I swear it's cause it's mine...

umm hmm anyone got a problem with Ty Lee saving Toph for the moment?

Toph doesn't strike me as someone who really needs saving, but I was probably going to have Aang or Zuko stop him for obvious reasons. I just haven't thought of anything else for them to do, yet. If you want to do it, then that's fine.

lol well I wasn't really implying that she needed it ...just you know even the odds as it were I guess..

mostly cause I had no idea what I was going to have Ty Lee do otherwise.....

can only kill so many aimless npcs..

battles aren't really my strong point writing wise

Mine either. Controlling the Avatar makes it worse since he can do so much yet I lack creativity to make him do really cool things. -_-

I suppose this means we should figure out how this is supposed to end and wrap it up. I assume Azula gets away somehow or else the thread would be over!

blah...

though yes they do need a break of some sort from the fighting soon enough I'd imagine.

Yeah, I pretty much figure Azula would get away to regroup (probably a lot of rogue Firebenders out there who were loyal to her father) after having struck a hard blow against Zuko's Fire Nation. On both a physical and morale based level.

Then everybody can have time for reflection on what happened as they try healing some of the damage done to the nation and, in some cases, to themselves.

Lick their wounds, lick each other, that sort of thing.

Would you like it better if his powers were reduced in some fashion?

Would that make it easier?

'Coz I was thinking today. Little brainstormy things. (And yeah, I know, that's always dangerous.)

I had my self-carving NPC Firebender quoting The Spirits, and I wasn't sure if that was all delusional or not when I did that. Like if he were actually talking to Spirits, or he was completely schizo.

Like Gaiman wrote, it takes "a certain kind of madness to touch the gods." What if this confluence of negative energy has made an impact on The Spirit World, this kind of... warped mentality effecting the local Spirituality?

In a sense, it would be like a psychic poison of the environment, rather like the psychospiritual equivalent to that forest getting destroyed that time and irking Hei Bai. Could all that negative Spirit Energy have a deleterious effect on Aang, as he's the bridge between the world of the living and The Spirit World? That might disrupt his powers. Inhibit them.

Granted, he's supposed to be Unbendable for purposes of Energybending, but if they catch him at a low ebb, or a moment of weakness?

I know, I know, it's sort of trite, weakening the most powerful character so as to make him more approachable, but if it's helpful to you...

I dunno. I get carried away with stuff.

It might be kind of cool, tho'. Having to have The Avatar get by with just lower-level Bending techniques in each of the Elements, or even no Bending at all? He'd have to brush up on his actual fighting techniques. Like Sokka Style. ("Learn it!")

I dunno. I get carried away with stuff.

I can't help thinking there's potential for a Spirit World subplot. Like going into The Spirit World to remove the blockage that prevents Aang's full power.

They might save Ummi's spirit from Koh for Avatar Kuruk.

Zuko could say goodbye to Mai after all. And Iroh... Iroh could say goodbye to Lu Ten.

(And Sokka could find a bathroom.)

Having his powers reduced seems like a sort of cliche move to allow Azula to actually becoming a threatening enemy, however it may be necessary since he really is just that strong. The way you explain it does seem to allow it to become a sideplot and possibly develop some interesting character development.

I'm not sure it would necessarily be 'easier'. I consider myself pretty uncreative when it comes to making characters with strong powers be able to use them in new and interesting ways. This isn't to knock my own ability to write, rather just a fact. I'm not a writer by any means. In general, when I'm given tons of options in anything, I get a bit overwhelmed. So I dunno. Right now there's really no reason for Azula to be a major threat unless she's given some sort of new power, or Aang gets some of his reduced. Even Ozai was no match for Aang at the end. He was still a major threat since the Fire Nation basically had 90% of the world conquered and in his control. Azula is obviously not in such a position.

yay for kidnapping people's computers.... *coughs*

with everything how it is I get the feeling it would probably be more prudent just to hold off on Ty Lee until others have posted

blah and I know how you feel on being overwhelmed Ahren... I tend to basically close my eyes and point aimlessly at the options before me... that or write one down..erase it cause I don't like it..write another one start working on a bit of the angle and find it has morphed into this completely different thing.

Also yeah for Spirit World subplot...kind of ties in with some vague dreams I was sketching around with Ty Lee and Smellerbee (no not together just they have their own respective demons to work through in their subconscious)

I'd be lying if-- having continued in my getting carried away with this --I said it hadn't occurred to me that Xia being a reincarnation of a past Airbender might have interesting ramifications should she visit The Spirit World. I mean, she wouldn't run into her past self, that's just for Avatars (I think), but still. That could be interesting.

And writing "realistic" characters in a surrealistic darksome Wonderland is always a fun little challenge.

I'd also be lying if I said that writing Aang wouldn't be daunting to me, too. And I get my biggest kicks out of writing superpowered characters, and I've always always had a deep and abiding love for the classical Elements (even predating "Captain Planet," thankyew). And still that prospect is daunting to me. He's the Title Character, after all, and he is by definition The Most Powerful Person in The World.

As much as I would love to play him, all those pretty little options and solutions and tricks and moves...

I mean, what could you throw at him that he couldn't Bend back?

(...short of a gigantic Lion Turtle with primordial knowledge and mad Energybending skills...)

If Superman gets too impossible to handle, you fetch a bigger chunk of Kryptonite. (To use a weathered metaphor, and I know, I know, I'm sorry, not all of you lurve comics.) So what's Aang's Kryptonite?

Katara... duh

though if used in the wrong it'd just make him bend your ass to hell and back that much harder.

Also is it sad that kryptonite makes me laugh now after rping as a genderbendered clone of Superman? Porbably doesn't help that red kryptonite seems a lot like a more hazardous mystery prize thing to me

Like that one time that one dude dragged her underground with Earthbending?

Yeah, he kind of got his ass kicked.

Heh, nawh.

Much as I adore The Man of Steel, I can also acknowledge the inherent ridiculousness of his paradigm. I mean, geeze, I take my glasses off all the time and people still know it's me. If I changed my clothes in a phone booth, I'd get arrested.

And Red K is the silliest thing ever to show up in the bottom of a Cracker Jack box.

I'm shocked at how many people have no idea who the hell I am when I wear my contacts.

only thing that's happened to me when I wear contacts instead of glasses is that a lot of people(including ones that have known me for years) will suddenly ask if the things are colored...which they aren't and probably never will be... no matter how much I may long for contacts that give me vibrant Dune-esque blue eyes.

also Cracker Jack has begun to suck pretty hard on prize giving I mean..come on..a dinky sticker along with some baseball facts..not even on a nice trading card... on the other hand I would love some red kryptonite

I figured we'd have to manufactre a weakness for him. Yes, Katara could be considered one, as all his friends would be, but like said, putting them in danger or something would likely just make him stronger instead.

I'm not really swimming with ideas at the moment, though.

Crazy Spirit Chakra Chi Block is go!

(Good Lord, I am not sane.)

If we are doing the Spirit thing, I have an intriguing sequence through which I must momentarily put Uncle Iroh. If not, I'll just have him kick ass summore.

My eyes are spooky dark.

Like so dark brown they're black. (To, you know, match my abyssal, Gothsome soul.)

They're my best feature, in an otherwise totally bland and average face. But no-one ever sees them because I can't see a thing without my spectacles, and my prescription is so messed up they can't make contacts for me.

So, waaaah.

I haven't had Cracker Jack in years. Never was big on caramel or whatever that crap is they've got coating it.

Give me a good batch of kettle corn, anyday.

my eyes are officially hazel..which pisses me off just cause whenever I mention that to people they think I mean a sort of cloudy/muddy brown.. which is probably true but along the course of making peace with my looks I've become enamored with my eyes and tend to want to romanticize the fact that they don't stay the same hues of browns, greys, blues, and greens from day to day

While I do happen to like caramel corn.. I never was a big fan of cracker jack..because peanuts should not be with the popcorn..just no..but I get a box/bag every couple of years..for some inane reason

I've always loved the idea of iridescent eyes.

I'm insanely jealous now. XD ...I just thought you should know.

The spirit world stuff sounds promising, especially the idea of possibly revisiting the subplot of Koh. Creepy little bugger has always both intrigued and creeped me out on the rare occasions he came up. And, like others have suggested, Aang could go for a powering down if we want Azula to remain a long term threat.

On another note, and I may have missed it, but I don't believe we've seen reference of Ozai's present situation. I figure he's still rotting away in prison, but it could be interesting to see Zuko visiting him at some point. Of course, the idea also crossed my mind of Azula visiting to perform a 'mercy' killing on her powerless father, but I'm not sure if that could be squeezed in with the action as it currently stands.

Anywho, just a couple of random nodding toward certain suggestions while doing some musing of my own.

Oh, and Xia officially frightens me now. heh

That could be a way to make Azula more of a threat.
Discovers a way to tap into daddy's locked bending and steal his former strength for her own.
