Avatar: Lightning strikes (OOC)

well I'm not saying he'd be good in this live Akira remake.. cause part of me is like... that's impossible

I just don't think he's a bad actor by any means ..... I was against him for awhile after having to listen to every girl friend of mine prattle on about how pretty he is though back during his incredible popularity

From what I read, he just wanted to produce it, not star in it, because he was a fan. Which would give me more hope of it being done right than people who don't know shit about it doing it.

I was actually a fan of his back when he did What's Eating Gilbert Grape, then had a similar annoyance after hearing so much chatter about him based on his looks after Titanic and Romeo + Juliet. But I respect that he's taken a lot of steps to break out of the pretty boy actor stereotype by taking on more challenging roles. Most would just ride the fangirl popularity out until they moved onto another flavor of the month actor.

In either case, shouldn't you be off with your Leprechaun? Cheating whore. *sniffles*

Well, M Night was supposedly a fan of Avatar (or his daughter was, because she liked Katara), and look how that's turning out with some of the casting thus far? Either way, I'm willing to give it a chance until more information is made available down the line.

Besides, while I enjoyed Akira, I'm nowhere near as big a fan where I'll be ticked off if they butcher the live action version, so it's ultimately not that big a deal for me. Hadn't even given it a second thought until now.

Look how what is turning out? You don't work on movies, there are probably a hundred other factors as to why certain actors get chosen other than simply just looking exactly like a cartoon character.

Schedules, auditions, salary discussions, interest, and what have you.

*coughs* as a die hard book purist and person who takes all of that into account when hearing that a book I like is getting made into a movie only to be faced with the almost certain possibility that it will not hold true to the original form....

I respectively say...

Fuck that shit.

They know enough before committing to making the movie to know if it's feasible to do it well or not.

Who does? And who is judging whether or not they are done well? The book purists? Well that's hardly fair. They're always going to say they suck, despite the number of book adaptions that are done quite well. It's possible to do an even better movie. The Godfather is probably the best example.

That's the problem with being a purist. You're also biased. There's just no way you can ever fit everything a book has into a movie. Should that stop them from making books into movies? Or rather, to stay on track in the conversation, adaptation of other media into movies? No. It shouldn't.

I'm sorry it's just they GO OUT OF THEIR WAY sometimes to make it as unlike the book as possible.

I could point to Ella Enchanted.. which basically only kept the tiniest sliver of the story in tact.. but then I'll start rambling madly and waiting for someone to do something exceedingly stupid so I can cause them physical harm.

My point is basically that they'll change key plot points. Even if they don't have every little exact detail, at least keep the fucking plot intact... and I'm not saying they should stop making movies, but there used to be a time when they made sure that when they were adapting something, they stayed faithful to the original material. ... Of course that was before they started coming out with dozens of movies each month all so that the almighty buck could be made.

I know about the many factors which lead up to the casting of a part, but it doesn't make the majority of these final decisions any less disappointing for myself based on what we've seen thus far.

And it's not solely about looks, it's also about their races. Especially in a story such as Avatar's where the Asian and Inuit heritage is an important factor to the world it takes place within. I'm generally flexible about the races of the actors for established characters, but there are simply some parts or stories where I can't look past such casting.

And you got Unseen to bring up Ella Enchanted.....may the heavens have mercy upon your soul if she goes any further then that.

*opens her mouth and shuts it*... I'm not going to deny it... I really am that bad when talking about that bastard excuse for a movie.

ooooo cookie!

Yeah, why should people try and make money in their business? That's absurd. Alright, I'm not going to claim sometimes they don't just take an established name and butcher it, but it sounds like you're bitter because you're a book lover and have seen a couple of bad translations. That's understandable, but you can't automatically apply it to everything, especially things we know nothing about yet. The argument that they're after money is pointless because it's true no matter what the situation. It's always their intent to make money. It is their job. I never saw Ella Enchanted, so no comment there.

And uh, is their heritage really that important? I think you're reading into it a bit too far. They're from The Fire Nation. They're Air Nomads. They're Water Tribe members. This is not Asia. Asia is not mentioned. Inuit is not mentioned. Yes, they have very obvious bases, but these races you speak of do not exist there. So I'd argue that they're not as important as you think.

it was turning into a debate of no return.. better to nip things in the bud before they get out of hand.

I say give it a chance to at least come out, then you can complain about it. If it sucks, then it sucks.

But let's at least find out if it sucks first without deeming it suckage beforehand.

I think that's the most I've ever said "suck" on this board in one post.

lol hey I'm not condemning it before seeing it.. ..just with each reveal of info I inch that much closer to a torch and pitchfork.... just in case

They probably will do a good job (with some elements left out that will inevitably sadden me) and hopefully it will do well enough in the box office that Nick will get its' head out of its' butt about not succeeding with their child target market and make good on the other two movies as well along with some cartoon television movies to wrap up some loose ends of the series.

Like the whole "Where's my mother?" -
aaand let's end.

Rumor was another Avatar series, but the original group wouldn't be there.

What she said. It seems pretty clear we're not likely to change each others opinion, and I frankly don't care enough to go into any further length to debate over it.

Better to go back to cookies and talking about how Lily sucks.....in a good way.

But casting issues aside, I really am giving the movie a chance until we see more of it. Heck, I was cautiously optimistic about Dragonball until actually seeing a trailer which brought back memories of the Double Dragon and Super Mario Bros. movies from the 90's. Not that a bunch of giant Goombas dancing to elevator music wasn't entertaining in its own right.

and is Jet dead or not? yeah

I've heard the rumor and yeah can't say I'm surprised that Team Avatar won't still be the focal point, but it would be fun to see another series.

Jet's dead, baby. Jet's dead. /Pulp Fictiony reference

I've heard the rumor as well and can understand why Team Avatar wouldn't be the main focus. For the most part, their main stories are finished, and would only need an episode or two for wrapping up the majority of loose strings which most could piece together on their own. Plus they'd probably face the same problem we did, in that Aang would be too dang powerful for the average menace to really come off as threatening.

I'm also hoping the rumors about direct to TV movies is true. Mainly to bring closer on Zuko's mother, which is the only loose thread which is bugging me.

That and whatever happened to Longshot and Smellerbee, of course.

... If anyone needs me, I'll be in the kitchen slamming my head against the table.

I had found a job in the paper over the weekend that describe me to a T.
Husband recycled paper this morning.
The little paper I wrote the info down on went through the wash.
The newspaper website doesn't list the help wanted ads; it redirects to HotJobs instead of local things.

Sooo, when is this time skip supposed to go down? I may just wait to come back when Sokka is all better.

Whenever THOSE two *points @ Eazy and Chas* Get done.
