I worked, had a work email inbox full of, wait, just one email and that was to correct an issue that arose last night. Other than that, it was back to a project I started on before I left, finding that my team did well and we're ahead of schedule.

It certainly is. Some of the team stepped up while I was gone. They told me I was right: Working hard without taking breaks to smoke or have coffee makes the day go faster AND gets you ahead quicker.
