Beer club

I like those 10 commandments, but they printed it with a typo in #5. Spelling 'them' with an 'n'

I'm sure it's delicious, I love a fresh pint of real ale. I was last in Britain about 10 years ago, the craft movement had not gotten any traction yet. I'd love to go back again and see what all's brewing.

Too much and too many. There are now numerous local breweries competing with each other and too many not relying on good ales but exotic ingredients.

My town now has five micro-pubs all serving good beers with two of them making their own. Our major brewery is Shepherd Neame which brews some good bitter but it needs careful handling and storage. At least one of our pubs gets regular praise from Camra for its Shepherd Neame quality.

But there are too many bottled craft beers which are just odd.

I've seen exotic ingredients too. One of my favorite Michigan breweries is Founders and I was in Meijer's (a Michigan-based chain so I see a lot of Michigan beers) this morning and saw something they call Blushing Monk - Belgian-style ale brewed with raspberries. It didn't sound good at the time but right now I kinda wish I'd bought some. At least I'd know if it was any good.

Like a lambic? Similar to Lindeman's Framboise?

Don't know. Need to try it, I guess. And I've never heard of either of those two things you mentioned. I should spend more time in this thread. I've got a lot to learn.

I was thinking maybe they start with a Belgian White. Maybe that would blend better with raspberries (like Blue Moon does with citrus) but I really don't know. I looked to see if Founders makes a Belgian ale, figuring they'd start with that, but they don't. At least not one without raspberries.

It's just what it said on the label. Now I have to buy some. Damn. Comes in a four pack so you know it ain't cheap.

I haven't been on Lit in quite some time and have been poking around recently for some unknown reason. I didn't expect to stumble upon a beer thread. Oh my. So hello to you and to everyone else. This marks my first post with my return.

With that out of the way, I'll comment on this beer. It's phenomenal. Founders stepped away from this one and brought it back this year. It's got a huge raspberry presence. Given the ABV, it is dangerously drinkable. You won't get any alcohol burn nor does it require any sitting. Drink it outright, but sip it if you don't want to be smashed in 10min. I am pleased that they put it four packs. It used to be packaged in a bomber (22oz bottle, if you aren't aware). I'd highly recommend picking it up the next time that you're out and about. It's worth the price. :)

Yesterday I brewed an English style porter using maple sap instead of water. I'll be adding maple syrup to the secondary fermenter and to the keg too. Also brewed another batch of Russian imperial stout since that keg is really low.

Cheers

They don't sell CC where I live. I've had it other places though. I know they have a good reputation and will order it if I see it.

This is what's in my basement fridge at the moment. I buy the Columbus Creeper, when I can find it, for a daughter who really likes it. It's a great IPA. I've also got four kegs of homebrew on tap currently :)

Creeper is fantastic. Still unpredictable to find in stores (I did see some last week), but a far cry from the days when it wasn't bottled at all and you had to hit the right bar at the right time to find it.

We visited one of the BrewDog locations yesterday (hadn't been there in a while), and I note that they are beginning to adapt to American craft beer tastes. Much higher ABV beers on tap than I am used to from them.

Hi yourself. Welcome.

I finally got some Blushing Monk a couple of days ago, and you're right, it is quite good. It doesn't seem like beer, though. More like a hard cider. The raspberry flavor is intense. But this is no girly drink. It's really easy to drink too much, too fast, and strong enough to make you have to sit down in a spin if you're silly enough to do it.

And yeah, I was silly enough.

I was right about the price. $16 for four. But I'll be buying more anyway.

I usually just stick to my Mexican brands of beer. Corona, Modelo, Victoria, Tecate. I used to drink every day. Now mainly on the weekends.

Just bought a local stout. Didn't know they made one. The distillery has a nice restaurant downtown but so far I haven't been too impressed by the brews.

I'm making potato soup for dinner. Does that go with a stout? Probably better than the raspberry ale, I suppose.

Then again, there's always water.

Drinking a homemade porter right now. I really like the balance of bitter and smooth in it. I'll find out if the pros like it and if it's to style in another couple weeks when it gets judged.
