Wb, Homburg. Glad you survived the wilderness.

The wilderness was not so bad. Thunderstorms and the tent flap busting didn't produce a conducive atmosphere, so we left for drier climes. The healing part came not from the wilderness, but from the kitchen.

Cook not treif foods as a goy in a Jewish kitchen. The result may well be second degree burns on arm, chest, and stomach.

Fucking burns itch, and scratching is contraindicated.

OH! I'm so sorry. That sounds scary! Take good care of your new skin. Burns are finicky and require patience and perseverence to heal properly.

There were like thirteen pages since I left. Wow. Not even going to try to catch up.

Welcome home Hombie I missed ya

Now don't forget guys 'n' gals it's NATIONAL ORGASM DAY today so let's be hearing all those gasp moans shrieks however you do your thang ... personally I come pretty quietly with the occassional expletive if it's a particularly good 'un. Set this place alight with personal happy fireworks

I'm pretty good about this sort of thing. My brilliant plan never fails: Ignore it, and it will heal eventually.

The fortunate thing was that I was alone when it happened. I don't like being around people when I get injured. They fuss and worry. I washed the boiling hot grease off myself and applied a cold pack. No yelping, no worries. One quick "MotherFUCKER" when it happened, and that was all that muss that was needed.

I'm with you on the finickiness of new skin. I lost a bunch in the shower today

And while I am being my usual flip self (I just can't take most injuries seriously, as the really don't hamper me all that much, and my system is so bloody resistant to this sort of thing) I do recognise that this is a pretty serious burn, and easily the worst I've burned myself ever.

Missed you too, doll. And the rest of you lot as well. Except for... you. In the corner. You're too gassy.

Hi Homburg,

It pains me to hear of the burns. It's really tough to do the right first aid when it's not your own injury, but to do the best treatment on yourself is worthy of a person with such strong sense of purpose.

I hope you're keeping the wounds moist and covered with those excellent dressings that are embedded with sterile epithelial cells. They help skin regrow into a strong scar rather than a fragile tissuepapery type. If you don't heal well and in a reasonable time (2 to 3 weeks) please try to see a doctor.

I'm glad the journey was exciting and welcome back, you were missed.

Yeah, them eptheliwhatever things are, uh, hot.

I self-treat all the time. I don't tend to like doctors. I am pretty good at it too, having taken all sorts of first aid, CPR, first-responder sort of courses, and having dealt with other people's injuries many times in my life. Mostly though, I'm not afraid of the pain, and unbothered by blood and such. So why not treat myself when it is an injury that a doctor cannot honestly do much for? Fractured bones, cuts that are not involving serious blood vessels, burns that are deep and serious, minor infections, etc, what is the doc going to do? The same crap I can do with my own (rather impressive) first aid kit.

It wasn't me, it was the dog.

I was pointing at the dog. Gassy bitch.

You mend fractures?!!!
A broken finger or toe is usually splinted with another digit and tape or a finger splint, which can be bought at wal-mart. There is nothing a doc can do for a fractured clavicle except use a figure 8 (splint)sling or for a rib apart from taping. I'm sure for broken great bones in the arms or legs there needs to be a doc... simply for the surgical intervention that's neccessary against bleeding, nerve damage and infection. Simple, small bone fractures could be self-treated as long as at the first sign of complication, the patient sees a doc.

See what Champy said about fractures, Annie. I've had my share of fractured toes and fingers. Boxing, martial arts, ripping the doors off cars, wandering into synthesizer stands in pitch black rooms, etc have put various sorts of hurt on my phalanges.

I also fractured one of the long bones in my left forearm last year. Never saw a doc because I didn't think it was broken. The 2"x13" strip of skin that I ripped off hurt like a mother and probably occluded the pain from the fractured forearm. After I did it, I stressed that arm like crazy, trying to figure out if it was broken. Did some push-ups then bench pressing, some pull-ups, and hit the heavy bag for a while. No major pain (aside from the huge patch of skin that I scrubbed off in the crash), so I kept on keeping on.

A while later it was still swollen, and digital examination discovered a lump on the bone. I talked to a physical therapist friend of mine, described what I did and the other symptoms I'd experienced, and he said I'd fractured the bone and it was a bone callous. Just like he said, it eventually absorbed back into the bone. *shrug* Just a fracture.

1) First aid on any bits what are bleeding, remove shrapnel/debris, check for serious trauma
2) Ignore any non-serious trauma
3) Heal naturally

Not saying it's the best plan, but it works for me. My mother used to take me to the ER for things that I never would've even remotely called an emergency, and it always pissed me off. So I just learned how to deal with these things myself. YMMV.

Did I mention that I sutured myself once? It was the only way I could figure out how to keep the wound together long enough for the super-glue to work. If I'd used enough glue to do it on its' own, the resultant heat would've been bad.

We haven't got Wal-mart perhaps they sell them in Boots the chemist! Think I will stick to A & E (our ER) although I dont get in a tiswas about blood and stuff. When Ron got the end of his finger bitten off trying to stop a dog fight the wrong way (I stopped it the right way!) I got him back to the farmhouse where we were made sure someone was with him and then went back and looked for the finger!

Heh, you can't buy a memory like that. Good on ya :)

We just had a cool thing happen locally. A young boy with a serious peanut allergy went into anaphylactic shock. The mom took his pulse and when she realized it was serious and that he didn't have one, she panicked and froze.

It was the boy's 'older' brother, who grabbed his epi pen, deployed it perfectly into his brother's thigh, counted to ten before he let go and yelled out to his Grandmother to call 911.

And then comforted his mom by saying, "... don't worry. Look. He's waking back up."

The older brother was three.

How amazing is that? I don't know him but I just want to hug his little smart self.

I seem to have stumbled into a medical clinic. This was a nice Bistro last week.

This round's on me. ("My shout" for you Miss UYS). Hi Sara. Introduce me to the nice Gent in the hat.

*gets the complainer a beer*

Homburg meet darkmaas--darkmaas meet Homburg.

Careful how you shake hands. Not sure how far the injuries extend.

He does have a bit of a crank on...

Now then, m. d'maas, shall we discuss the rockslide across that lovely stretch of sea and sky highway? If you measure it in comparison with the Frank slide it's a wee thing.. but if you're holding a mirror up to the prairies, I don't think you'll see anything in it to rival it...

Ah champers

Didn't see you come in.

Well on the subject of rock slides, I'll have to bow to your analysis. What passes for a mountain here is fairly unlikely to block traffic.

Seems to be Canuck day at the Bistro.

Think there's any back bacon in the kitchen?

I dunno 'bout back bacon. Is that like back fat? I hear tales that we might find a bottle or two of Labatt or Molsen (name your variety) in the back. Lemme ask UYS...
