He stared across the water at the ship, walking over to the railing and peering at it before looking over at Mia. "Aye, first few shots'll fall short, a course, but after a li'l playin', they'll be ready ta punch holes in the Bilge,....if we kin still see 'er then, a course."
He glanced around at the men, and decided he wasn't too worried. The cannoneers were loyal, and they were the ones closest to the ship's gunpowder and ammunition stores.
Unlike the other sailors, Dan had chosen them all himself. A cannoneer had to have some education, be able to tell grade of gunpowder, amounts used, trajectory, and more. They had to be quick to aim and reload, and able to lift and manipulate the cannonballs and cannon itself.
They couldn't just come off the docks. Granted, he'd had to lower his standards a little to get enough for the ship, but he trusted them. A little,....
