Black Hawk's Treasure

He felt sorry for her, he really did. She didn't belong here, in with these cuthroats and vigilantes, some naive young woman who only had status on this island cause of getting all of her father's hand-me-downs. Talk about a fish out of water.
"Ok, I'll stay away from you, and you keep a close eye on me. I think we can agree with that. I don't want anything more to do with you, or your intollerable habits, or half assed way you do anything. I don't even know why you're here. You have no idea of how pirates work. That's the whole point of treasure, unless it's in your hands, unless it's in your cargo, it belongs to anyone. Your father knew that, I just wish you had listened to him once in a while before you decided his ship was more important than his words."
The only thing that had stopped his brutish attack against her character, and involvement in her own father's death was when she mentioned his wife. His wife? What wife? Had she drunk more than he thought? She still looked coherent, Where in the hell had she gotten that? He'd never been married in his life, the closest he ever got was with her... asking her father for Ash' hand in marriage, and finding out the horrible truth that sent him away.
"Maybe you've had a little too much to drink Ash. I think it's time you went back to your daddy's ship, go sleep off whatever the hell your own, and in the morning you can take you half assed crew and go play pirates."

Ashley

She really itched to slap him then and there but stayed her distance away.

"Oh, I know how to play pirates real well Thomas. More than you know.. And I said it before and I will say it again, do NOT mention my father, you could never EVER! stand in his shoes. He warned me about you, I just wish I had listened and left before you turned into a lilly livered sea slug!" She sobered up really quick, her temper forcing her mind to clear more and more.

She slid up closer her head tilting a little as if comtemplating something for a moment, she eyed him shrewdly. "I suppose if I wanted to be underhanded, cruel and selfish, I could take lessons from you.. But I think after suffering through what you did to me, I got that part down real well! Good night!" She turned and stormed down towards the docks to board her ship. She had a plan in mind and a race to win. She'd get there first and blow him outta the waters! She aught to do it now, save herself time and energy.. She wondered for a moment where her gunner was? Then a pain hit her inside deep and sadness came with it. No, she couldn't do it, but she would see her father's only dream accomplished.

Thomas turned around, meaning to kick something. A bucket was in his way, and he sent it flying into the bay below, to float until morning. He cursed and gritted his teeth, getting beyond angry, to raging with pain.
How dare she speak to him like he had done something wrong? How fucking dare she?
Thomas set out to talk to her, grab her by her cute little neck and wring it until he wiped that smart ass grin off her face, but he stopped, controlling himself.
That wouldn't solve anything. She had her own little world in which she lived, where her father was perfect, and she was a good little girl with no fucking clue.
Well, she had to get a clue, and soon.
He stormed off again, going to help her find that little clue, and maybe a few more, but stopped himself once more.
No, NO! He had to let this one go. This time it had to be gotten rid of. When he spoke to her father that last day, it took every inch of him not to go back to her, and find out the truth, but he didn't. She had, and it was all true, just like her father said.
Stuck up bitch!
He needed to get drunk.
"Rum, lots of rum," He went back inside, calling out his order, and sitting alone in the corner, not really wanting to talk to much of anyone anymore. Just get drunk and go on with tomorrow's plan. That would be best.
"Wife?" He spoke it again, unsure just how fucking drunk she was, "I had a wife?"

Ashley

She changed her mind, and once she boarded her ship, she moved down the side of her ship and stood facing the Bilge Water.

"Well let's just see if I can shoot straight..." She was fuming mad and bent on putting that ass in his place!

She packed in the powder, the heaved the heavy ball up and stumbled a little. Not to be detered from accomplishing her goal, she managed to load the cannon. Placing the fuse it and making sure it was well into the powder, she lit it.

"One.. two..." BOOM!

The cannon rolled backwards and into her, causing her to lose footing and slam into the cabin wall. Groaning, she held her sprained wrist and jerked her eyes up to the ship. The cannon ball hand landed a few feet short of it's intended target.

"GOD DAMN IT!" She swore loud enough to wake the island.

Salty Dan

His head jerked around at the sound of the cannon being fired. He recognized the sound from anywhere, and he could tell, just from the sound, the location, the amount of powder used, and....

"God damnit, tha's one o' mine!"

He ran a few feet before turning to look at Leia. He gritted his teeth, looking between her and the direction to the docks and the ship. He looked over at her, standing there, looking sexy as hell, and towards the dock, where someone was manhandling his cannons, wondering what to do.

Krysta ~

After watching for Thomas and hearing him yell for rum, I had gotten my finest, rum from my own secret stash. Just because I didn't drink, didn't mean I couldn't have it. It upset me when Ash would get him worked up like this. Granted it had been a long time, but there were a few times where he would talk about her. None of which was pretty.

I walked to his table just he said he had a wife. The confused look on his face told me even he was unsure. Handing him the full bottle of rum, without word I sat next to Thomas. If he wished to speak he would, and I would listen.

Leia

Leia bit back a gasp as Dan’s hand grabbed her and pulled her back to face him.

" 'Ey, lass, that ain't nice. Either don't ge' starte', or don't leave before yer finished!"

She flinched as he slammed his hand on the door and placed the other on the wall.
She was trapped beneath him, her back against the wall.
She looked up at him, smelling the rum fumes and seeing the lust in his eyes.
Her heart pounded, more in excitement than fear.
This was better than all that word play.
This was something she knew how to handle.

"As fer what I did with Preach, well, I don't mind being ignored, lass, but I don't take to well ta shipmates o' mine goin' after tha same thing.
As ta whether I want ta get your legs uncrosse', I doubt there's a man alive who wouldn' like ta, but just because that's a goal doesn't mean it way tonigh's."

Her eyes remained on his.
So … he wanted her … but how badly …?
She eyed him speculatively.
She knew she’d love to see this man desire her.
Leia loved to be needed, wanted … luke warm “… oh well if it’s on offer … “ was NOT for her.
She bit back a sigh as she saw him move his hands and free her.

["Ya go in if ya want, go'n tell Thomas ye didn't learn a thing, see 'ow well ya stand in 'is eyes, then."

She laughed.
There it was again.
She didn’t need to succeed to win Thomas’s approval.
He knew she would do her best.
If she failed … she didn’t like failure … it would be herself she let down … but Thomas would hardly think less of her … not in the way Dan implied!

She opened her mouth to tell him as much when the cannon sounded out.
She jumped, her head whirling round in the direction of the port.

"God damnit, tha's one o' mine!"

Her hand had reached out and was on his arm now.

”Are you sure?”

She whispered, listening intently, but hearing nothing further.
Dan nodded and ran as if making towards the ship.
Leia saw him turn and look back at her.
Making a snap decision, Leia ran after him, grabbing his hand briefly before turning to take a knife from her boot and lodging it in her belt.

”Come on … let’s find out what the hell’s happening out there … “

Suddenly it was no longer a matter of sides.
Something was amiss and they needed to find out what the hell was happening out there!

”Quickly …”

She urged, hitching her skirts and sprinting into the darkness, eager to get to the docks.

Salty Dan

He grinned and went running with her close by, glad not to have to make a decision between his job, the love of his life, and a woman who caught his eye. Although a fine woman she was, and pleasing to the eye caught.

"Sure? Lass, if I'd a been nearer tha docks, I coulda told ya which one o' mine it was!"

They ran, him in the lead, dodging around a few startled and drunk pirates looking towards the docks and worried in their paranoid stupors that the British might be attacking.

When they reached the dock he ran on board, turning and heading to the cannons. It was a few good minutes, even at a run, but it wasn't anyone who might still be below deck that drew his attention, but the cannon fired. He ran up to it, shifting it back into position and checking the weapon itself.

"Ahhh, good, nothin's wrong wit' it. Gah, looks like it was aimed fer tha Water, but not nearly enough kick ta get 'er there..."

A minute after the large explosion, causing a massive panic on the tiny island, a man came walking into the bar, calming most of the costumers down.
"It's ok, just some drunken bitch on the Mystique. She tried to hit something, but it didn't work. Nothing to worry about."
Thomas gripped the bottle of rum too hard, taking a wild guess at who the drunken raging woman was, and what she was aiming at.
"Why?" He drowned the bottle, swallowing more liquor than he had drunken all night in just two gulps, "Why do I always find those kind of women? I never get the kind who wants to settle down, or the one who waits for me while I'm off adventuring, wishing I'd come back and sweep her off her feet. No, I have to get the homicidal maniacs, crazy loons. Is it me? AmI looking for the wrong thing?"
Another huge chug of the rum, delicious stuff, but he didn't drink it to taste tonight, it was more to just let the pain go away. As the bottle got emptier, the pain did ease.
"I get the one who leaves me. She left me. She fucking left me for her father, and thinks it's my fault that she went? It's always my fault isn't it. God forbid nothing is her fault. Stupid bitch. She... she..."
The words left before he could speak them. They brought back such pain, he couldn't utter them aloud, but they trailed on his tongue.
"... she loved me."
"I don't know what love is. I don't think I want to know. All I want, is to not be alone, you know? I just don't want to be alone anymore."
Thomas laughed at his own sad remarks, already on his way to drunk, unable to comprehend much else, except for the one person willing to listen.
"Thank you Krysta," He smiled at her, for her patience and kind words.

Leia

"Sure? Lass, if I'd a been nearer tha docks, I coulda told ya which one o' mine it was!"

Leia listened with interest, realising finally how skilled he was at his particular craft ... perhaps his ego was merited.
They ran to the docks, she hesitated only fractionally before following him up onto the Mystique.

Dan headed for the cannons and found one still smoking from the recent firing. She stood close by watching him check it out.

"Ahhh, good, nothin's wrong wit' it. Gah, looks like it was aimed fer tha Water, but not nearly enough kick ta get 'er there..."

Leia nodded, hearing the pride in his voice and straining to see if any damage were evident and realised that the Bilge Water had been the target. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a movement. She pulled her knife and nudged Dan, not knowing if the person posed a threat to either or both of them.

"Dan!"

She whispered urgently.

"Over there ... "

She nodded and pressed her body to his, all attention, but not wanting to start anything on what was after all his ship.

Again she saw the movement in the shadows and glanced worriedly at Dan as he peered in the direction she had indicated.

Leia

"Was going to ask you the same question, yo be not one of our skirts."

The woman's voice was accusing.
Leia glared back matching hostility for hostility, her knife still in her hand.

"Or has Salty been recuiting?
Ye know how to load a cannon or just ride 'em?"

Leia glanced at Dan, but took no more heed of him.

"I know well enough how to load ... as well as ride ... 'tis fortunate that ye know how to do neither ... "

Leia's look was contemptous as she regarded the woman she assumed had let lose the cannon.

Ashley

"Yeah Sally, I missed.." She rose from the deck, her temper still heated up.
"That lily livered, betraying, murdering sea slug has the luck of ten men!" She grumbled under her breath, watching as Dan came barreling onto the ship to whimper about his cannons. She had a mind to tell him just who's cannons they were but said nothing. Instead she eyed the new comer, wondering who this was?
She paid no heed to Dan's complaints over the cannons, nor Sally's little swipe at the new doxie. Instead she eyed the Bilge with resent. "Damned ship.."

She just needed more powder! That's what she needed! She grinned a little but her wrist was throbbing.

"Ya know Salty.. You could be a great assistant to your captain and reload that thing again.." She glared still at the ship just across the docks from her. Just then she heard another set of booted heels on deck and turned, it was Preach.

"Oh great!" There went her fun of using the Bilge as target practice. "Who is she? And what is she doing on my ship?" I stood tall and stubborn, waiting for an answer.

Krysta ~

I was about to bolt out the door with only one thought in mind at the sound of the cannon. Till I saw Dameon go out first to check things out, sat back and waited his return of news. He claimed everything was fine that it was just some drunk having fun.

That was when thomas started rambling about the women he finds and what he wants.... normal rambles of a hurt man.
There wasn't much I can say, just knew I wanted to kill her.. a long painful death. Make her feel all that she had Thomas endure.

"She's just a typical daddy's girl, she couldn't survive out there on her own for one day. Hell she probably hurt herself just now with that cannon."

"I can only hope she did... anyway.. enough about her.. You have me and I'm not a homicidal maniac, crazy loon."

Laughed lightly at how that sounded coming from me.

"Well, cept when it comes to this tavern and being on land.. but you've always known that. "

For the first time it dawned on me how much I really cared for Thomas, I had always been there for him and all that... It just felt .. different tonight? Why now? After all these years? My words had soften, almost as if I was thinking out loud, just enough to have Thomas hear them;

"Unsure if I can just sit around and await for your return while your out adventuring... but I have, and always will be there for you and by your side.. You have never been alone.... I... I've been here the whole time."

I couldn't believe I just said that, it was true yes, but there's far to many people in here. Also Thomas was gettin pretty drunk so chances of him remembering my words in the morning were slim.
Only other thing about telling him all this is, has he ever thought about me in such a way?

The tavern started to clear out, mostly from the excitement, one thing worse than enemy ships, is a mad drunken woman at the hands of a cannon. Others were to drunk to care but left anyway.

"Well lets get you to your room and get some rest. There's much to do tomorrow to have you like this. The crew needs their capt to be strong...."

Wanted to say more, the words just wouldn't get out. I cleared the table and a few little things as I went to my brother. Told him that I was taking off early he understood. Before coming back to where Thomas was sitting I had picked up another bottle of rum, just in case he wanted more.

"Shall we take leave?"

Smiled at him while handing the bottle, holding out my other hand to help him if needed. This was the first time anyone has seen my softer side, for now, I didn't care. I had to be there for Thomas right now.

Leia

"Ya know Salty.. You could be a great assistant to your captain and reload that thing again.."

Leia’s mouth all but fell open.
There was Dan’s Captain, the Captain of the Mystique … and much the worse for drink!
Leia let her eyes travel over the young woman whose eyes were curious and aggressive.
It was clear now who had fired the cannon … and so poorly.
She could not help the smirk of derision as Leia realised just what had taken place!

"Oh great!"

As the exclamation rang out, Leia realised that Preacher too was walking towards them.

"Who is she? And what is she doing on my ship?"

Leia met the demanding look squarely.
She was stood on the “enemy” ship … only she was supposed to no longer be in Thomas’s crew …
Damn … it had gotten all too complex.
She did not know whether this situation was laughable or tragic.

”I’m Leia … “

She responded calmly.

”Erstwhile crewmember on the Bilge … the ship you just tried to blow out of the water …?”

She prompted with a twitch of a smile.

”Seems that little stunt will have given you quite a reputation for yourself, Captain.
That shot made the glasses in the tavern rattle … but like so many things, t’was all for noise with no effect.”

Leia looked pointedly at each of the Mystique’s crew in turn.
Sailors talked tall stories, she herself had made a big play about being dismissed, but in truth little had been achieved that night.

She sighed heavily.

”But before ye cast me ashore, I think perhaps someone should cast an eye on you … “

So saying she stepped forwards and took the woman’s arm, turning it gently the better to see the injury.

”This needs tending to … we need water … bandages maybe … quickly …”

She spoke curtly, gratified to see the older woman bristle.

"Look to your Captain ... on the morrow she may well forget this, but that wrist will trouble her for weeks yet if we let the wound fester ... "

She spoke to Dan and Preacher.

Captain Ash

"AH HA!" She hiccupped again and excused herself for that. Leering at the woman she got up into Leia's face a moment and gazed at her through narrowed eyes.
"You work for that no-good, two timin', cheatin', lyin', murderin' sea snake!" She leaned back and put her hands on her hips, ignoring the pain or the fact Leia had held onto her arm.

"PREACH! Put Miss.. what was her name Sally? Oh hell! Put her in the hold! We got ourselves a prisoner!" They all eyed her with wide eyes, completely at a loss to follow such an order.

"DO IT!" She barked, her hand moving to the cutlass at her side.

"Oh, and thanks for looking at my injury." She smiled at Leia for a second and then reordered the woman taken prisoner. She pulled her sword and pointed it to Leia's neck. "Stand down and hand over any weapons dear. Daniel, Charles.. See her secured into a room she can't get out of.. Hell, tie her up!" she grinned a little with the idea, but stopped herself.

"You know you're dear ol' lyin' captain tried to deny he had a wife? Can you BELIEVE the gall!?" She turned from Leia and wandered down the deck a few more feet.

"Sally? You know how to load one of these things? Thomas can't get away with killing my Father.. nor breaking his promise to me." She stood facing the Bilge, remembering better days but only for a moment.

Turning back to the crew, she put on a innocent face and asked "What?" No one commented for a moment, "Lock her up! She's the enemy.."

Leia

"AH HA! You work for that no-good, two timin', cheatin', lyin', murderin' sea snake!"

Leia smirked.

”That would be Thomas, yes … “

She grinned then corrected herself hastily.

”Or at least I did … “

She threw a glance at Dan and knew he’d heard the slip.
Fuck!
She thought.

"PREACH! Put Miss.. what was her name Sally?
Oh hell! Put her in the hold! We got ourselves a prisoner!"

Leia stared wide eyed at the order.
The Captain was mad! Surely they would not dare!
Why Thomas would ….

"DO IT!"

Leia held out her blade, but being so much shorter I was no match for the cutlass the Captain held out towards her.
The only reassuring factor was that no one had moved to follow the orders given ... yet.

"Oh, and thanks for looking at my injury."

Leia was not taken in by the smile.
Again she heard the order repeated and gasped as the blade was held at her throat.

"Stand down and hand over any weapons dear. Daniel, Charles.. See her secured into a room she can't get out of.. Hell, tie her up!"

Swallowing uncomfortably, Leia took a step backwards, casting a quick look over the side.
If they truly tried to take her she would jump over the side.
She was a good swimmer and her weapons were light.

The Captain broke away, making it possible for Leia to breathe easy again:
Her drunken ramblings continual as she staggered along the ship.
Leia heard her call for the cannon to be reloaded and felt more than a twinge of unease.
Things were getting out of hand!

Step by step, Leia moved until her back was pressed against the side of the ship.

"What?"

The Captain had turned suddenly, her eyes finding Leia's once more.
Again all stood in silent uncertainty.

"Lock her up! She's the enemy.."

Leia looked at Dan then Preacher incredulously.

”You’re the worst enemy to yourself here!”

The exclamation came forth unbidden.
Leia shook her head then.

”You’re crazy”

She insisted softly watching the other woman’s face and forgetting momentarily about the others.

”Whatever grudge you and Thomas have is it worth involving two crews and two ships?
All for some petty liaison that went sour!? “

She laughed out loud then seeing the stubborn set of the Captain’s features.

”.. from what I know about Thomas, I can’t imagine him going for a drunken spoiled brat … even with a ship … “

She taunted … perhaps unwisely …

Captain Ash

Her face hardened as did everything else inside her. Almost as if shutting down, a coldness came over her in that second.”You’re crazy” Leia's words were getting the woman into further shit than before. But did she heed Ash's warning glare? Nope, Leia kept talking.
”Whatever grudge you and Thomas have is it worth involving two crews and two ships? All for some petty liaison that went sour!? “

"Petty?" She stepped forward, moving towards Leia, her cutlass raising up as she moved.

”.. from what I know about Thomas, I can’t imagine him going for a drunken spoiled brat … even with a ship … “

Now that did sting, this one had the tongue of a viper!

"Oh, you are right dear.." The growl in her voice should have been warning enough, she was going to help silence Leia. One way or another...

Leia

Leia had no respect for the woman who stood before her, cutlass raised, but she had reason to fear her, she realised belatedly.

"Oh, you are right dear.."

Her voice was more menacing now, Leia realised.

"Oh skirt, can ye swim, cause I think you are going over the side."

Leia looked at the owner of the voice, grateful for the interruption that cut through the sudden tension.

She was not afraid of going over the side, though Leia had a sneaky suspicion that that would be the easiest of consequences after her impassioned outburst.
