The last few days I have been all American meals. My friend was leaving US after studying here for 5 years (2 degrees). So we had been having something that is real "american": jumbo hot dog, chicago deep dish pizza, buffalo wings, filet mignon, philly cheese steak, onion rings, fried okra, bacon cheese burgers... oh boy I think I should really check my cholestrol level after this..... I missed bean sprouts and tofu already.....

Gusty and I did this together and we only got 7 right, which is the average but is rated very bad hey bugga... this should reassure you about someone recognizing you on the street

that is actually a very cool site... I read all the stuff by dyske and Mdm. Wu.... the funny thing is that I am always running into Chinese stereotyping about Westerners here... often a comment would start "ni men nei ge ren" - (you, those people or you people) like this or that, as if I was "typical" at all ... and they can't believe that I eat Chinese food at home.

I have lived with it for so long, I usually forget that others here view me as "foreign", but every once in a while... I wake up to it and have many funny stories to tell in that regard.

that is true... and I know how it is with the facial features, I find myself seeing Chinese on the street who I think look just like some gweilo's I know from home... cause I think I am really "color-blind" in the sense that I see the spirit of the person rather than their external racial characteristics... its weird at times.

BBC's are like this too, although a lot of BBC's are mixed though. For example I am half malaysian chinese, and I there are some who are half veitnamese chinese, half mainland, etc etc

Going back to the all look same thing, I met a Mexican guy recently who told me a funny story.

It seems that there is a decent chinese population in Mexico, and one of his friends is a Hong Kong chinese. When his friend went back to Hong Kong for his first visit, his grandmother asked him "How can you tell the mexicans from each other? They all look the same!"
