What is so many people talking about popiah here..... man.... I missed those..... a little bit of bengkuang (what do you called that in other language?) , bean sprouts, eggs and that sweet sauce.... blachan..... I have 2 bottles of those powder and I still can't finish those... How do you use that hong? I usually has it with either okra, asparagus, or watercress.
Why do I always read all things about food during this wee hour....

How is the fellow asian lits doing? Hope SARS is not affecting too much of your lives.

If I remember, watercress is called kangkung in Malay... called eng chai in hokkien or kong xing chai in taiwanese...
the dish I like is called kangkung balachan..... or some was called Malay feng guang (or Malay scenery)

I have no problem to cook, as long as someone would clean up the mess afterwards

I absolutely adore kangkung with balachan... and I am not a big veggie eater... I can eat platefuls of it...

watercress is what they translate as, but it certainly is not western watercress....

SARS update

Hong Kong

A total of 1008 patients have recovered from atypical pneumonia and have been discharged from public hospitals. Of them, 24 were discharged today. There are now 445 patients in hospital, of whom 91 are recovering patients who are in convalescence and preparation for discharge.

News from my brother who's a doctor in HK:

The likelihood of dying from SARS in a given area has been shown to depend on the profile of the cases, including the age group most affected and the presence of underlying disease. Based on data received by WHO to date, the case fatality ratio is estimated to be less than 1% in persons aged 24 years or younger, 6% in persons aged 25 to 44 years, 15% in persons aged 45 to 64 years, and greater than 50% in persons aged 65 years and older.

Strangely SARS doesn't seem to affect children at all.
