Happy birthday, AFM :)

Did you get the cake I sent?
Did the 6 dancing girls pop out?

:D

Thanks for the sentiments :)

I had to work today anyway, and had a pretty crap day, although a friend of mine did something really unexpected and cheered me up alot :)

Quiet here the past few days....what's happened to everyone?

(cue everyone coming in while I'm sleeping)

it has been quiet hasn't it? it's a busy time of year i suppose...

we've got a long weekend this weekend in Canada, waiting for it has made the past few days pass sooooooo slooooowly...

bugga I missed you so..... :D

Guess all the party people are saving their energy for the weekend too

I got a football tournament today, so wish me luck!

Hello asm happy birthday, hope this greeting does not come to you late. How is everybody doing ?

It is almost the begining of weekend for you in west pacific now. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Hi bugga :)

Good luck on your tourney this weekend, AFM.

Hi erc, what are your weekend plans?

Here, it promises to be another hot and humid weekend, so I plan to spend most of the time indoors, reading and cooking.

Well the tourney was a blowout....our goalkeeper got injured in the first game and we struggled after that.

*sigh*

And off to work in two hours

*sigh sigh*

Hello Asian threadies,

AFM, I'm sorry to hear about your tourney :( When is the next game?

The weather here today is HOT and HUMID. So southeast Asian. I can feel my brain melting out my ears.

No wonder a regional favorite dessert involves shaved ice and sweetened fruits. The Filipino version is halo halo, with flan, purple yam, ice cream, toasted crushed rice, sweetened beans, jackfruit, and coconut gel. The Malay version is ice kacang (right, AFM, Gusty, and erc? please correct me if I've got this wrong!) or chendol.

Gah! I need a Singapore sling!

:rose:
Mia

Hi mia,
Ice kacang is correct. We usually have several type of red beans, yam, peanuts, corn kernel, soya beans, barley, liang fen (a black jelly type of snack), and cendol (a green soft long thin shape stuff), covered with shaved ice, brown sugar syrup and red colored syrup (sugar + artificial color, this is never a healthy dish) and add on with condensed milk. Sometimes for extra $ you can add a scoop of ice cream on top. Mmmmm this is making me hungry.

Cendol can be taken just with coconut milk and shaved ice too, that we call cendol. Although that green stuff usually is in ice kacang too.

Some people who eat halo halo or ice kacang for the first time can't believe we put vegetables in the dessert!

How about some bobo chacha, erc? :D

man.... do I love Ice Kacang..... but my favorite is the one or two "atap ji" (palm fruit?) they put under it..... they are the best!!!!!!

and how about Gula Malacca (sago/tapioca with palm sugar and coconut milk).... and one of my favorite Indonesian desserts... Bubor Ayer Hitam (black glutinous rice soup with cocounut milk)

Oh I can go on forever about SE Asian desserts... Dayumm the heck with the heat and humidity... I think we should move south!!

ever notice how when Asians get together, the subject of food always comes up??? are we all a bunch of "foodies" as the Singaporean's would say..... but I love it :D

Hi all, how is everyone today?

ON the subject of desserts, when I'm in HK I always have mango pudding, and mango and coconut sago.....lovely!

I love malaysia desserts too like those previously mentioned.....anyone know about roti planta and roti pisang as wall? Like sweet pancakes...bootiful ;)

 How the heck did I miss this post the first time around? Maybe I need to wear my contacts AND glasses at the same time!

I LURVE the bubor ayer hitam. That stuff is sinful. Don't let me near a kueh stand either, because I'll take 3 of everything and I don't mean to share.

I wonder if atap ji (palm fruit) is what we call nata de coco or nata de piña? Translator PLEASE!!! If I can ever take a picture of these ingredients, I'll post them here so we can clear this extremely urgent matter up!

:)

Bump for monday

What a bloody hard day at work....went in at 11.30am and left at 11.30pm...managed to grab about an hours sleep in the middle but otherwise it was straight work
