topic change: GROUP HUG AT MIA'S

i'm going to step outside of the modesty circle here for a second and say proudly that I give great hugs. It is one of my favourite activities and nothing comes close to getting to know another human being like the feeling of being all squished up together...
with that said:

*SQUIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISHES to Mia and my asian Litties!*

Buggawugga, objectively speaking as a recipient of many many hugs, I can certify that your hugs are a fantastic work of art. Thank you, bebe! Danke schoen, fraulein!

And pulling in Gusty, hong, AFM, erc, for the group hug :D (and the Asian halves of Cordelia and RomanHans...heh heh heh, just joking lah!)

Mia, feeling mucho cheered up :)

I usually lurk at the poetry boards, but this thread caught my eye.

I am half Chinese, and I grew up in the Western US (Montana, Idaho, Colorado, Oregon). I currently live in Nevada. Talk about standing out in a crowd.

My father is from China and mom is a european mixture. I get mistaken for Native American quite a bit here in the west.

WHile I was growing up, people were most surprised that *dad* was Asian, as most inter-racial couples had the woman asian. Do you find this to be true, still? (I have a hard time gauging, as I am not around a lot of asians).

Great thread....I look forward to joining in the discussions.

Cordelia

P.S. Check out my poem Dark Feel in Yellow Skin (It got an author award in April...I am proud of it).

Hello Cordelia,

Welcome to this thread. I'm the receptionist at the door. There's green tea and caramel popcorn (a little of east and west) for everyone.

It's cool to hear from you, and you can lurk as much as you like. Yes, absolutely, I find the stereotypical mixed race marriage is non-white woman to white male. Have you read Feather on the Breath of God, by Sigrid Nuñez? It's a memoir sort of book by a writer who is Chinese (father) and German-descent American (mother). Sounds similar to your heritage. So many Filipinas (substitute Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, etc) married American military men and that large number of marriages has perpetuated the stereotype.

I will check out your poem! Hope you come back and post with us on the thread. RomanHans will be happy to know there is another "happa" here.

Mia

Its because every hot asian women needs a white man...heh

I didn't realize the neanderthal way of thinking was still alive and well in some pockets of the world. Shouldn't there be an apostrophe somewhere in there, darling?

Sheesh, what a caveman

Welcome Cordelia! I hope you'll find us an accomodating bunch :)

I have no idea about the mixed race marriages, but I can say one thing....the most beautiful girl I ever met was a half japanese half english girl I went to school with.....amazing....

Seems that the mixed race marriages can produce some of the most beautiful combinations! ;) :D

in defense of CBC's (and their equivalents in other countries) and partially in response to erc's post, I don't feel that there is any one culture that embodies ALL the values I find to be important. I was raised in a fairly "traditional" Chinese manner and feel that I understand a lot of things about our values... but i feel fortunate also to be living in a place that is known for it's cultural diversity and so have also been able to see the values and strengths of many other races as well. As such, my core values are an amalgamation of the best things I see in every culture, integrated with my Chinese roots.

good to see you wanton and cordelia : ) haha, you caught us in the middle of our ultra- cheesy group hug! i personally think that Mia deserves a promotion from the receptionist position... to food and events coordinator, perhaps? green tea and caramel popcorn... you had me running to the store on that suggestion : )

yes, eurasian kids can be so beautiful! i bet hong and gusty might know something about that : )

Wanted to say hello to a great thread

HELLO!!
This is a great thread, I am very happy to have found it. I am not asian or half asian, but I have often dated asian woman and found the discussion here very intersting.

First of all, please forgive the caveman who posted earlier that all asian women need a white man, that is foolish, of course. I have not dated asian women for any of the caveman (idiots generically claiming they are subserviant (they should have met somo of the women I have dated), but because of incredible personalities of the people I met. (OK, this is a literotica thread, so I should admit that I love the curvature of many asian woman's rear ends).

I couldn't agree more about no one culture embodying my values. Frankly, The US view towards sex is crazy, we are either so prudish it is scary or in some cases so loose that it is risky regarding disease. I prefer a dutch view about sex, but on the other hand I can't stand a dutch view about politics, it seems that they operate for their own purpose only, I like the altruism of the US. On the other hand, I like the philippine view of forgiveness (they practice forgiveness almost to a fault) and the chinease view of respecting your elders and religion. In short I guess I am an ideological mut.

Hello to everyone on this thread and I hope to be a part of your future discussions.

Paul

Hello wantonknowledge, my apologies for overlooking your post earlier. Welcome to the thread.

Hi johnson_paul...I appreciate many of your comments and the spirit in which you made them. Very perceptive observations, like Filipinos being forgiving to a fault. It's a trait that Filipinos discuss in secret groups because to question our forgiving nature is tantamount to treason...almost. I can't figure it out either, how we can topple a political dictator one year and then take back his ragtag family and elevate them to governor, senator, congressman...ay yay yay.

bugga, does the promotion to food coordinator come with a hefty pay raise??? Cool!

This thread is yeah...pretty cool :)

Gnite threadies!

Are you in the Philippines now?

it is true that Philippinas wish to not question the over forgiving, but the example you gave is exactly on point (marcos both accepted the body back and having elelda for a senator). But if I were to want to error on one side of either being to forgiving or not forgiving enought, I would want to be too forgiving. Besides the Philippines has some of the most beautiful women in the world.

What do people think of the balancing of life in asia vs. the US. Here we do not seem to have a balance.

By the way this is literotica, is there any sex discussed on this thread? LOL

very sexy AV buggawugga

Sorry for the digression, just wanted to compliment you on your AV buggawugga. Sexy and seductive, yet nothing is actually showing, perfect.

Hello cordelia, Welcome to our threads. Hope you would enjoy the conversations here.

Mia a big hug from you from the central US :) so besides Africa, you have a hug from just about every continent in the world.

Bugga... I never meant that to be a derogative to any CBC, ABC or BBC.... and I apologize for any offence I have made, what I was trying to say is that race is far less important criteria for me to choose a partner. However, I do have problems for anyone who ignore, disregard, or worse, detest his or her own culture or roots. Unfortunately, there are some who do think this way.

Okay cavemen? Wow thats clever...wait no. I was refering to the fact that asian women would get "more" from a white man :p

I forgot to mention this before...

Its funny how us overseas children are seen as foreign when we go back home. When I'm in Malaysia, everyone calls me English, and likewise in HK. It's a bit disconcerting, since I've never called myself English and never will, but I guess its understandable. I realise that people like myself and bugga, while retaining chinese values, still have part of that western culture in us that we will never be able to get rid of. I don't feel that I fit in completely in HK, nor in Malaysia, the only place I really feel at home at is in London!

If anyone is ever in a bookshop, I recommend looking for a book called "Sons of the Yellow Emporer", by Lin Pann. It tracks the patterns of chinese migration over the last century, and the cultural impacts of it. Very interesting!

Yeager, can you offer asian women security, cultural acceptance and good asian home cooking? Be my guest then :p

Thank you all for the welcome!

I am writing down book suggestions. I am a read-a-holic. I am reading an interesting book called "Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White" by Frank H. Wu. Just started it, but he really brings up some good points, so far.

I lived all over the Western US and in South America, AFM. I always felt like I was the odd one out. I even felt out of place in HK and in my visit to China with dad to re-visit his village. Oddly, the only place I felt like I blended in and wasn't judged by my looks was Hawaii. Talk about mixtures! I loved it. (Oh, and that's another reason I like the internet... you can be judged by words, not looks.)

MIA -- thank you so much for the feedback on my poem. I have 20+ poems posted here, and a couple stories (both true). There's a link at the bottom of this post, if anyone is interested.

Fascinating discussions here. I always made it a point not to date men who had a "thing" for asian women. They would have been disappointed, eventually. I am so very American. I try to read and study as much as I can of Asian culture (oh, and ask dad), but I know I am American to the core.

As an aside, most folks don't know that I speak spanish fluently. It's funny to answer local Mexicans and Salvadorans when they ask questions. The looks on their faces are priceless.

Just rambling on,

Cordelia

aww erc, i wasn't taking offense to your post, merely stating an opposing opinion to the discussion : ) You are, of course, entitled to your tastes in women and culture with no judgement from me. I do see what you are saying though, many CBC's (etc) try too hard to hide or ignore their asian heritage and it's so sad to see...

thank you johnson paul, i'd like to feign innocence but those who know me might tell you otherwise...

hmm, seems like a certain prehistoric brain picked the wrong choir to preach to...

and i agree with cordelia, i never appreciated being anybody's "token" asian girlfriend.

Hello all
First of all, call the discovery channel. We have live neatherdals still walking and posting notes online too !!!

Gusty.... how are you doing now? How is your moving ?

Bugga I know what you mean. I believe there are plenty of overseas chinese who still retain the culture, language or even habits. I am one of those who is never native in any country. I was born in Taiwan so in Malaysia I am always perceived as Taiwanese chinese. But when I am in Taiwan I am the Malaysian chinese. Over here, I am always a foreigner.

Nobody like to become a trophy like "look I can date a white/black/asian/blue/green/purple guy/girl".

whoa, you've dated a purple person before too?!
haha

hi gusty........ we need pictures of the new house!!

Look in all seriousness I am not trying to insult anyone, however in my experience in college and even in high school, asian girls tend to date white guys. Its just a simple fact I have observed.

Living in the Western US (the non-California part), I don't think I met an asian man to date. I dated Native Americans, African-Americans, and white guys. That's the only choices I had. My brother, however, was really popular with the ladies...

I just objected to the stereotype I was expected to live up (or down?) to by some of the men I dated.

No offense taken.

I really have very little experience with other asians. I have lived a sheltered life in that way.

Cordelia.

Yeah, just going on my experience, even my one of my best girlfriends Samantha dates only white guys so just another example...

look, i'm not trying to be hostile... but the lack of common sense applied in the statement made directly above me is somewhat appalling. Based on your experience from one asian friend, you have managed to sum up an entire race? Either your friend is Asia embodied, or you need to broaden your statistical sample size. Secondly, the tact involved in coming to an Asian thread and suggesting (with no offense intended  ) that every Asian woman deserves a white man, as if white man has anything to offer that asian men don't... is tasteless at best. I'm sorry that your friend Samantha has limited herself in dating only one type of guy, it really is her loss... but if she really is as closed minded as you portray her to be, then perhaps she won't realize what she's missing anyways.

that ends my opinion on the subject. I wasn't going to say anything at all since I am of the opinion that if you don't have anything nice to say then nothing should be said. But since you made such a tasteless comment, and then refused to a) let it drop b) go away or c) realize what a stupid thing it was that you initially wrote... well, I really couldn't help myself.

I was pointing out one bloody example. I have run into many do not insult my intelligence.

I will venture into this frey

At the risk of upseting both sides, let me attempt to enter into this discussion.

First of all Yaeger, you must recognize that your experience (regardless of how many people you have seen) is limited by the environment that you live in. That is to say that if you interact primarily in a white world (I am a white guy, so certianly no offense intended here), the mostly white world is what you see. It may be true (not at all sure since I have a number of asian male friends who have dated mostly white women), that asian women date white men in the world you interact in, but just think about it logically, the asian men are dating/marrying someone and if according to you the asian women are taken by white guys they must be dating non asian women, including white women.

The part that is offensive in your comment is that an asian women somehow needs a white man. What any woman needs is a man who understands them and that is not decided on based on the color of the guys skin.

However, at risk of insulting the other side (btw I love your AV cordelia very sexy shows nothing explicidly but implies much, between yours and buggawugga's I am in love), I must say that I am a man who has mainly dated asian women, not as a preconceived notion of what an asian woman means or as a plan, but simply because I am usually more physically attracted to asian women than white woman. I like thinner woman and am an ass man. This has led to me finding more asian woman attractive, but I certainly wouldn't consider myself to have a 'asian fetish' and actually would be insulted if someone said I did. Having said this, I do know that there are guys out there who think that asian women are somehow subserviant and therefore target asian women, those guys have many more problems than I could elaborate on here, but my point is that just because a guy dates primarily asian women doesn't mean anything on its face, you must look deeper to why that is the case.

Have I pissed off both sides?

Paul
