Carson lied again. NO WEST POINT SCHOLARSHIP.

Ben Carson: My biography isn’t ‘100 percent accurate’ — but ‘none of the things are lies’

The Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson sought on Sunday to brush away growing questions about the accuracy of his autobiographical statements , implying it was not possible to be “100% accurate” when recalling events from recent history and instead blaming journalists for what he called a “political hit job”.

Carson, a retired pediatric neurosurgeon who is neck and neck with Donald Trump at the top of the polls, has experienced a torrid week as numerous inconsistencies in his 1992 autobiography, Gifted Hands, have been uncovered by reporters.

So he's like "W", just pumping the propaganda then?

I heard a news report that said he never claimed this in his book. The news report said the claim was fabricated by politico.com.

Don't you read a thread before you post? Or do you just say the first stupid thing that pops into your head like Ben "Tut Man" Carson.

Politico has rewritten the headline, lede, and several portions of the text of an article accusing Ben Carson of “fabricating” part of his personal biography involving the Military Academy at West Point.

I am guessing you were in front of a mirror when you wrote this?

Ben Carson admitted that the story was false days ago. Now he said pretty much exactly what I said when this story first broke. Several people used poor word choice. But the story is false.

Evangelicals have already exhausted their monthly brain minutes. Nothing else will be comprehended until maybe December. Don't bother.

Will you just stop this. He didn't admit the story was false. He said the semantics used were bad--and not deceitful.

Westmoreland could have offered to place him in West Point (and probably did--and could have made it happen). Since Carson didn't pursue it, he could, in thinking back on it, have been as hazy on what was being offered and who was offering as about 90 percent of the posters to this thread were/are. West Point is a free-ride service school. "Scholarship" is an irrelevant term for West Point--all are riding on the U.S. dime for later service obligations. The media has just tied him up in knots of confusion over this one--and you are perpetuating that.

Once again, there are clear-cut nutty positions and statements Carson can be pinned down on. Using mud like this just makes the badgering petty.

I, for one, am amused at the hoops his apologists are willing to jump through to defend this man.

Yes, but this wouldn't be the first time in politics that the counterspin (and/or coverup) have made everything worse. But it started with the media going for the minors without being content with there being quite enough majors.

CNN/FL/Ben Carson Press Conference

Watch it and tell me you want this guy dealing with Putin. And how many gallons of water will Rubio sweat and pee out just meeting Putin face to face?

Putin would use his fly swatter on these pip-squeaks.

Good article on Ben Carson's endgame.

He’s not really trying to win office at all—so much as he’s trying to build his brand as a fundamentalist Christian icon. He wants his book to be wrapped and placed under every evangelical’s tree this Christmas. After he bows out of the presidential race, he has a nice career ahead of him as an “inspirational” speaker—and seller of tapes and sermons and educational materials—for the Christian right circuit.

Well, I do expect him one day soon--maybe even after he's won a state primary--to declare politics and the liberal media as evil and drop out--and, yes, to become an icon for many for doing that.

I'm sorry in this case, poor semantics=false. And I'd kindly direct you back to the beginning of this thread. I've been saying since the entire thing started that the man didn't lie, he chose his words less than ideally/or simply didn't remember a dinner twenty years prior to writing his book. Nothing any normal person wouldn't have done.

It's not only his Westpoint "story" being called into question anymore. For a cat that only has his honest image to run on Carson is in trouble.

....and so are his sales goals. I'm sure he'll ride the paid for by book tour as long as he's able. You know as long as the good people keep giving the poor victim of the media money.

You stated this in post #130: "Ben Carson admitted that the story was false days ago." As he didn't, in fact "admit that the story was false," you're having a bit a problem with semantics too--and perpetuating a tempest in a teapot when there's a raging storm going on elsewhere in his public persona.

sr71plt is standin' tall for Dr. Carson's mendacity.

Represent!

I'm not a bit surprised that you can't tell that I'm picking the chaff out from the wheat in this Carson witch hunt so that we can concentrate on his truly nutty nature without dealing in the watering-down petty crap. You've got that Fox News mentality--why try to be fair or concentrate on the facts when playing in the mud and being simplistically stupid are so much more fun?

But his misrepresentations in his book point to his craziness. And, as I said his image as the "most trusted" candidate.

He DID admit it was false. These are the facts.

No such thing as a full scholarship to Westpoint exists. Statement =False
(West Point is free if you get in but free=/=scholarship.)
Carson did not apply to West Point. He had already made up his mind to be a doctor.
(Illogical choice since he was poor and fretted about how to pay for college. Sure it's only anecdotal but I know from an uncle that you can get the military to pay for your college to be a doctor. He is one, and a low tier famous one at that. Note: Thsi doth not a liar make)
No application means no acceptance means no scholarship.

Dr. Carson has confirmed all of this. Making the story false.

He goes on to specify pretty much exactly what I've said. He heard "free" and remembered scholarship years later. The school itself on their website occasionally use the wording scholarship (though knowing the state of the internet in 1989/1990 when his book was published I doubt he was fact checking their website. . .cus I doubt they had a website.) He had no intention of deceiving anybody with his words but he did choose words that were incorrect and falsify his statement.

And I fully agree this is a stupid thing to be focused on however there are two important things. The first is like myself, Carson and Bill O'Rielly have all agreed. The words in his statement were false. Second if this gets officially "overturned" nothing else the man did wrong will ever matter.

No there is plenty of reasons not to vote for him beyond this.

1. the pyramids were used to store grain
2. Tithing should replace the income tax
3. Abortion= slavery
4. Holocaust was cause by German gun laws.

Those are only the few I know of is pretty sure there are 100 more examples I’m not.

Agreed. And I will add this:

5. "He prayed to God (a recurrent theme in his book) to help guide to the answers."

ETA: He is the perfect modern Republican so it is not surprising that he tops the ticket at the moment. He has constructed a fantasy world in which to live based on opinion and interpretation despite his erudition. He believes in his fantasy world unshakably. He has a persecution complex. He thinks God has called upon him to be President. He has no meaningful public policy or platform.

His West Point assertions are the least of it and seem smally to point to when there is so much not to like as a President. As just some guy, not everyone can be a surgeon but that in and of itself does not make him all that special. More like a learned idiot.

Don't forget the General was not in Michigan the weekend that Carson said this dinner took place.
