Catfish and Fake posters

I started this thread as a vent more than anything. But it seems to have taken on a life of its own.

I’m glad that there is a healthy level of cynicism in other users, like I have.

But I also don’t want to stop people using Lit as a fantasy tool. I’m fully aware that many have poor sex lives in reality and need a release, and Lit gives them that. What I don’t like is when that release becomes illegal or, in the least unethical, when they post pics of other people and claim it is themselves.

My wife and I are both on here. She is much more active than I am. I call it her ‘digital foreplay’ - she chats, she comments and occasionally she posts on her own profile (she has also been challenged on her authenticity which she was happy to prove ). It’s very clear from the messages she gets, it’s not only ‘women’ that are catfishing or using their imagination but men also.

I don’t know what I’m trying to say apart from I hope Lit takes the view of any reported profile seriously and keeps the site a happy place for people to have fun.

I think you said it just fine.

I was starting to become suspicious at the ratio of professors, doctors and engineers who seem to have oodles of free time 😔

Way to ruin the fantasy, Bob!!!

😋
As an engineering director I resemble this post - but that may also be one reason I can’t be on here as much as I would like.

Am definitely seeing a larger number of fakes - but also love the real conversation I have - makes me appreciate it so much more

It's interesting to me that I used to be accused of not being real because I don't share pics (part of my arrangement with Hubby about being on Lit), but now it seems that the profiles who share too much too soon are seen as the suspicious ones. And I have to admit I feel the same way. Like I wrote above, I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but I am very suspicious of posters who present as women and yet share face pics from the start.

And I know how easy it is to generate an AI profile pic people will think is real. I tried my hand at creating an AI avatar to give a better representation of what I look like (it ended up looking like I had a better looking and braver sibling 🤪). But even though I posted in my profile that it was AI, some people still though it was real. That is one reason I removed it. The other was that it was an uncanny valley moment for me every time I saw my own avatar. 🙄

It really does depends on the species. Some catfish prefer live bait, so you'd typically use (legal) smaller bait fish. Stinky cut or live bait is generally good for multiple species. The stinkier the better in some cases, cause they can smell it through the water. When I've made homemade bait in the past, I used sardines.
cornmeal with cloves and pancake syrup. Cook till it bounces when you throw it on the floor

Why, though? Why would you do that? Is it important?

Maybe I'm the weirdo who only allows people I know into my more personal space.

Question for all the men: do you check out profiles and previous posts before engaging someone, or soon after?
Yes, stage 1

Leave it to a Bob....
BTW, @Dribble - your forum ID reminds me of a certain "inconvenience" that mainly men suffer from called Post Micturation Dribble (PMD) - "Post-micturition dribble (PMD), also known as after-dribble, is the involuntary loss of urine immediately after urination has finished, typically occurring after leaving the toilet. It is more common in men than women and is primarily caused by a weakness or failure of the pelvic floor muscles, particularly the bulbocavernosus muscle, which normally helps expel urine from the bulbar urethra."

So no matter how much shaking, squeezing or milking a man does there's nearly always a last drop that happens once you zip up. ( I use a couple of sheets of toilet tissue to catch it & discard after a little while).

But it reminds me that I heard it referred to a a Wimbledon once by a UK guy & it always intrigued me as to where that slang term came from - it's not Cockney rhyming slang. No reference that I could find to the term online & then I came to this conclusion - Wimbledon is the last stop on the District line of the London Underground. And the PMD is often referred to as the "last drop" so ......

Just thought I'd add a bit of light-hearted fun here

Dribble was my Alt..which i felt was an apt name. I forgot my login to my old account which was created back in 99 or so. So alas...I am stuck with my Alt. But I have always been very up front with who I was previously.

My AV is a frost canker from Arkansas. Trees that normally aren't subjected to hard temperature swings in winter...can crack open when frost freezes the sap...and fungal infections happen. This particular fungus is very hard and woody. But still smooth. It was approximately 2.5 ft tall...maybe even 3 ft. Very easy to spot. Only in Arkansas.

Right! I was talking about your name, not your photo which, in itself is evocative - like a lot of what we see in nature we see images evocative of female & male genitalia

I just don't know....

Is the PM "Hello there, how are you doing?" from a three-month old account with only 10 posts but following 627 Litsters sound suspicious to any of you?

Can't quite put my finger on it, but something seems just a little off...🤔
Not at all! You should answer quickly before the other ten people it was sent to reply! Get your foot in the door early.

Interesting.
I also think there's a difference in this whole bot thing for those of us who have been around a long time (this isn't my first time here, just a new version of me, so I've seen A LOT) and how the bot thing has just been a tsunami the last few years.
Good point. I admit, I don't know the ins/outs with how bots really work. Just wondering if you ask the exact same question to a bot, will you get the same exact same response, or are they that sophisticated the answers will vary?

Depends. If they are simple rule driven...their responses are limited. But AI has revolutionized bots. People here will hate this...but you can buy bots that are better friends than 99% of your human friends This...is where I feel the danger lies. People seeking emotional ties will naturally gravitate to the source filling their needs best...and that can very easily be a bot. Especially on sites like this. Especially where it is fantasy driven.

So...that brings up the real question...on sites like this...does it matter? Why? We need the brave like Taegul to investigate and tell us.
