Catfish and Fake posters

I just blocked the whiners instead of those they were complaining about. How well did that work out? I never have to read their drama again. Worked perfectly...exactly how the ignore function should work

Aw, have I upset you, poor little puddy cat?

You know it's possible to stop all the bots on forums and social media, it's possible to stop the algorithms controlling lives - there just isn't a will to do so - too much money being made
To bad we can't ban dudes with big libidos but little bitty penises when they resort to calling young ladies names.. 🙄
(I don't know if he got catfished or if he just doesn't handle rejection well) 🤣🤣🤣
oops sorry I think the algorithm was controlling me!

Little puddy tat is a term of endearment, melord 😇

🙄 I think we figured how to get the bots and catfish to send our info and money back... 🤦 its just not worth the trouble..

The days of “take a selfie with a shoe on your head” as confirmation of authenticity are gone, my friends.

I see AI content in nearly every single board on Lit - photos and text posts (not stories).

Some of it is very obvious, the images almost look cartoonish or there’s one too many fingers. Some of it is not so obvious.

IMG_1206.jpeg

I stumbled across this post on Facebook a few minutes ago. That “woman” is completely AI generated using simple prompts such as “have acne, messy hair, car selfie” and they tweak the image/prompt until voilà! A “real” human appears.

It’s even easier if you can start with a base model - say, a former porn/cam actress. The more real content they can feed the generators, the easier and more realistic the process is.

There are still tells, even in the above image. The words on the can, for instance, make no sense. The “warning” sign on the sun visor is also completely different in both photos.

Ask yourself, would you have noticed? I’m sure you wouldn’t have, because who would be looking that closely? Who cares enough to inspect every photo you come across?

And I get that IF you have no intention on engaging with the content, but I see it constantly here. Constantly.

I don’t think relying on moderators, admins, or the site owners is the answer. This sort of content will never not exist now that it’s nearly undetectable.

What we need now is self responsibility and accountability, please do your own research into the capability of AI and common scams to watch out for.

I could go on and on, but I won’t 🙃

Those "spot the difference" puzzles always took time & energy to do - time & energy that most people can't afford but you are correct in everything you say but I just feel that instead of making it an individual's responsibility I believe pressure needs to be put on companies, organisations who have the technical means to filter such bots.
Part of the problem is the acceptance of the mindset "that's just the way it is and we need to be careful*.

I'm not blaming or accusing you, just saying if more people made such things unacceptable then enough pressure might begin to shift the responsibility from over stressed individuals (and this is another added stress of "modern life") to the areas/companies/organisations where some real change might happen

BTW, playing the "spot the diff" game on those two pics, I see one is a mirror image & the other not a reflection.
When you take that factor into account, the text on the can is correct & the sticker on the sun visor is correct.

It may very well be an AI generated image but I'm just saying how difficult it is for an individuals to sort out truth from artifice & why I feel the only power individuals have is to complain to orgs that have the ability to filter for this & walk away if there's no response or interest from them in dealing with the issue.

Oh great look... more life lessons and what we should all do to counter fakes and AI from a pompous stick in the mud 🙄
Can I petition the powers that be and owners of lit to just take this whole thread down or at the very least ban it from the playground? AFAF... maybe.. or maybe its just my ALT bot glitching ...

Close, but no, they’re not the same.

I feel the only power individuals have is to complain to orgs that have the ability to filter for this & walk away if there's no response or interest from them in dealing with the issue.
The only power we have as individuals is to be as anti-AI as we choose to be.

If someone wanted to completely rid themselves of companies who utilize AI, well there would be very few companies left to pick from.

Coca-cola uses AI for commercials
Vogue uses AI for editorials

And it goes on and on.

Lit is basically a “family run, small business” in my eyes and they really cannot afford to implement the technology that would be needed to sort out the riffraff. They’re prioritizing the stories being as humanly written as possible, which I think is logical, and the moderators and admins do what they can to keep boards safe.

I also hate the “well this is how it is” mindset, so rather than that, I’d rather stay on top of the situation and remain sceptical.

Ah, yes, that looks like it's close but no cigar as far as mirror images goes but I didn't spot it and I tried to "spot the diff" - even looked up the drink Alani Nu energy and it is a real brand - but this takes time & energy.

Edit: Sorry, I was premature - I just looked back at the original photos & don't see what diffs your highlight marks are trying to identify

I agree to some extent about Lit but I wonder if there's not more they can do to filter out scammers/fakes - like auto checking duplicate IP addresses, etc.

I see the "that's the way it is" mindset with my adult daughters about organisations which treat customers with disdain & try to tell them that mindset is a tacit agreement that they're fine with being treated that way & it wil only get worse.

Without getting political again, I think you have a perfect example in the US of the trajectory of this? It's not just politics, it's about society.

Don't make your foolishness so evident for all to see!
You’re the fella complaining that a free website isn’t running computationally-expensive screening to stop you falling foul of those pesky alts and bots 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been on here for a couple of decades, so there’s no doubt I’ve had non-genuine interactions… but I think running to teacher to sulk about it isn’t a good coping mechanism 😂

It's far bigger than this site - it's everywhere & a wider societal issue - this is just one manifestation of the problem & might be worth talking about it specifically as a way of understanding the widespread use of fakes.
As far as I can see, it's a monetary consideration that drives Facebook, Twitter, etc to use algorithms that focus on & drives engagement as their core driving force.

You guys in the US are the epitome of where this goes & who's driving it & for what reasons - not hard to see.

So maybe contribute something sensible instead of the usual hit & run you have engaged in so far. BTW, your last contribution was nearly something useful except for the usual snide remarks.

Maybe if you told us about the "computationally expensive screening" of checking duplicate IP addresses, you would actually contribute something of substance?! But I doubt you will as it's trivially easy to do.

It is two totally different stickers. One has text at the bottom, one does not. Actually, I'm afraid to answer this. What if I'm training a bot?

Ah, sorry, you & Eva are correct, I missed that - doh!

I'm probably stupid but trying to flip the sign in my head as a mirror image I missed that - not forensic enough or too stupid, I guess? But if that is the only diff, it takes a great deal of forensic effort to spot it, no?

Morning all,

new account but long time member of the forum.

I felt a need to start and honest and open discussion about the amount of catfish accounts currently on Lit Forums.

I’m fully aware this is linked to an erotica fiction site so we all have creative license but there are a lot of accounts posting images (stolen?) of themselves to boost their profile.

So do we think this is getting worse?
Do you believe that most of the ‘female’ posters on here are catfishing?
Who’s the most obvious fake account in your eyes?

Memo: I'm not actually a woman. :nana:

My husband and I were side by side as I was trying to show him on the actual image the differences and he could not see it until this poorly excuse of a drawn out example.

Imagine if tits were involved with the added perception of accessibility for personal connection - men here won’t stand a chance IF they’re lacking the critical thinking required to play these games.

Haha, in my first reply I even thought the pink highlight marks were on the original image so I replied it was obviously different - doh!
Only when I went back to check the original did I see that they were your highlights and I still didn't see the difference.

Men are supposed to be good at spatial awareness (except when it comes to bra hooks, tits, clits, erogenous zones, etc )so I don't know if your husband & I are the exceptions 🤣

I really don’t think you or anyone else is at fault for not spotting minor details, I wouldn’t have noticed anything was off if I had just seen the photo in passing.

I think what’s more important is to really question the reality of the situation at hand.

Why is “she” here?
Why is “she” single?
Why is “she” supposedly working but still fishing for Amazon gift cards?

🤨

Stuff like that. If it doesn’t make sense, it’s because it doesn’t make sense. Men, really, think about it. What pretty, smart, SANE girl is actually spending hours a day here in their early 20s?!!!? Please!!!! Save yourselves! 🏊‍♂️

(coming from a former pretty, smart, INSANE girl who was here in her early 20s and then promptly disappeared when I found my sanity)

Totally agree - I didn't know anything about it other than the pic but yes, I agree if it seems too good to be true OR if it is a lifestyle or background full of drama then my spidey senses tingle (not a euphemism for anything else 😇 ) and definitely highly suspicious
