Chain Story

Count me in, if you're interested. I run VtM in RP anyhow, hehehe... and I have a perfectly marvelous pair for this... a fae and Setite that could be a great addition.

Gah... I forgot... sorry. Seph and Galen would probably take about ten chapters for me to run through in whole, meeting to parting, but I can start them off as a couple and weave them through the other characters in any way that would suit. They were flexible in game, they should be even more flexible in writing.
Ah! Another WOD ST!! *dances* Have you looked at V:tR yet? The system is SO much nicer! *glee!*

Sure, glad to have you on board. Do you have any suggestions yet for anything posted thus far in the thread? I'd look forward to hearing it if you do.

And the characters are fine. *laughs* I have to change the character I am using anyway because Baby was snatched by Dark Moon Press for their upcoming anthology. I could always go with my old Standby with Winter. She's a Gangrel.

*tucks her geek back in*

Heh... yeah, I looked at VtR... detested it on sight. Mainly because I only play Setites, Ravnos, Giovannis, and Tzimisce... although I do have the only WW acknowledged Sabbat Tremere in existence and an Assamite.. *snickers* Okay... my evil side is starting to skip about... I'll get to work on Seph and Galen's story... I really hope you don't mind graphic sex... that was about all they did... that and being smartassed little Brit-boys.

Suggestion: Why not run it through a concert tour, like the Burning Man set? Those always attract us freakish types... and I know they're now starting these big goth-type festivals, music, markets, raves, etc.. and witht he odd and eclectic mix already present at those things, no one's going to bat an eyelash at some strange going-ons. The Masquerade at its best.

wow... you might as well be speaking Greek!

ok, so I think I'm confused... not about this stuff, but about the chain...

are we writing stories with OTHER people's characters in them??

That was actually the impression I got as well. :| And basically, VtM is just Dracula with rules and etiquette and family branches that squabble constantly over whose dick is bigger. (Tzimisce, the vampires who do magical bodily modifications called fleshcrafting and bonecrafting, btw. DEFINITELY Tzimisce. Although for a price they can make yours bigger too!) I wouldn't worry about it if you know nothing about it. DG and I will probably be dorky enough for both of you. :S So... here's a dancing banana to start the day off right.

:nana:

Well then we should develop a schedule for the first set of stories... Anyone want to volunteer to go first? *I* would like to last-ish... :)

I need at least a month... I have four other stories to finish for Lit... plus some for other sites.

I can go whenever, anywhere from a few days from now up 'til I leave for Europe on the 27th. I'll be gone for 2 weeks but should be able to take another turn pretty soon after I return.

I volunteer to go first. I had to change characters in the middle of my thought process. Baby was picked up by Dark Moon Press and now I have to keep him exclusive to those stories. Plus, Baby was originally 15 when this all started and Literotica won't let me do anything with that due to all characters having to be the legal age to consent, even if in the future it doesn't matter. *grins* I am in the process of kicking up another character and as soon as that is done, I shall begin writing. Since I know the world pretty well it will give you all a glimpse into what's going on.

Would it be easier if we made it two weeks between stories? I am starting a new job today (yay!) and I am not sure what my schedule is going to look like, plus I am hitting a heavy writing time... Would that make the schedule easier for all of us?

And Angel, would you need to be toward the end of this month only or toward the end of every month? I would like to put you second when the chain gets started since you know the world like I do. That will give everyone else an idea where we are going with this.

As far as RP - I've only done PC, no tabletop, LOL. And know nothing about Vampire the Masquerade except the old PC game.
As far as the gamespeak goes, yes, I am speaking Greek if you don't play the game. Don't worry about it. I don't expect you to know anything about it at all and it's not necessary for the story we're writing here on Lit. I just geek out when I meet another RPer. *grins*

MistressJett said:
As far as the chain - I was wondering the same. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but the impression I got was that we're all gonna write and submit our first chapters pretty close together. Then, after those are up, we're supposed to read everyone else's and incorporate other characters into our future chapters if we like, but we don't have to. Then we all take turns with a chapter every week until our own storylines peter out. Is that correct?
You are correct, Mistress Jett. We will each write our first chapters out. From there we will all read each other's first chapters and incorporate each other's characters or events if we like, but it is not necessary. Sometimes as I am reading, I get a clever idea and put my characters in position so the stories will interweave without the people ever meeting each other. However- if they DO want to meet one another, more power to the storycrafters. *grins*

MistressJett said:
This seems fun to me - I'm thinking about maybe doing something where each chapter I submit has only one character in common with the last. This should work particularly well since my so far unnamed character is a prostitute. Of course, the actual writing of the tale will be the deciding factor on whether I stick with that or not. I'm not sure how many chapters I'd need/fill, though with about a month in between them being submitted, I'm sure I could go on infinitely. Deadlines help me get stuff done anyhow.
I'm with you on the deadlines. *laughs* Also, having other people to kick me once in awhile is a good thing. Your plan sounds good and I will be writing until my story has petered itself out as well... so if this goes on all year, yippee for us! LOL

MistressJett said:
Edit - how will we name chapters? Will our firsts be something like Deus Ex Machina: Fiona (or whatever character/s you're introducing), with subsequent chapters being Deus Ex Machina Ch. 01, and so on?
I really like the idea of having it like your first example. The very first chapter we write should have the characters names. After that, we can call it Deux Ex Machina: (insert something witty here). Awesome idea. *grins* I hadn't thought about titling it... but I'm all about doing something different.

Ain't that the truth. Heh.

Have you read any of my stories? I only write graphic sex. *laughs*

*pets your Tzimisce* I am tempted to play Winter in her OLD style. She was an educated Brujah with Sabbat tendancies. *evil grins*

Don't worry, I don't expect anyone to know anything about the game other than Angel. *laughs*Please feel free to ignore the terminology chatter.

I am not sure, really, what you mean.... Could you explain it a bit further?

I'm not familiar with the Burning Man stuff... *hangs head in shame*

Do you mean for all of our characters to meet up at one of these things or something similar?

Character Name: Tara Baine

Age: 22

Personality: Tara is quiet, and she tries to avoid confrontation as much as possible. She does not open up to others easily.

Appearance: 5‘5“, 115 lbs. Tara has long, dark brown hair which she usually wears in a thick braid, and hazel eyes. She dresses casual, only wears dark colors and tries not to attract any kind of attention. She always wears a gold ring on a necklace, usually hidden beneath her clothes, which is the only object of her sister's she posesses. Her sister wears a silver pearl bracelet that originally belonged to Tara. Tara has a tatoo of two crossed four-leaf clovers on her left inner thigh, the same as her sister, which the girls had done together after they ran away from home.

Race/Species: Human

History: Tara and her younger sister Shea grew up with an alcoholic and abusive father. Their mother vanished from their lives when the two girls were still very young, they barely remember her and their father refused to talk about what happened to her. After their father considered selling them to a brothel when Tara was thirteen, the two girls ran away and have been making their living on the streets ever since. For the most part, they have led separate lives and rarely get to see each other, but they still care very much about each other.

Tara is currently living with her boyfriend, a police officer by the name of James Campbell. James can be both verbally and physically agressive at times, but for the most part, he takes care of Tara and gives her a place to live. She works as a receptionist in a run-down motel.

Shea has been working as a prostitute for a number of years. She has a lot of regular, shady clients.

Other: The premise of my first chapter is that Shea has been murdered. The circumstances are more than suspicious, but as the death of a prostitute is not an extraordinary occurrence in this town, police rules it a suicide. Tara decides to conduct her own investigation.

*deep breath*

There, I finally got that written up. I'd love to hear if there's anything that works well or doesn't work at all in your opinion, just let me know. I don't get offended easily, and criticism usually helps me a lot.

Count me in with those who have no idea what the heck is going on with all of that RP speak ;) That's okay though, as long as you let me know the really important stuff :)

I like the idea of starting off with a chapter per character and then interweave them after that. As far as I know, they insist on us submitting a whole timetable though, otherwise it won't count as a chain. Des anyone know if they relax those rules? There is probably going to have to be a whole lot of communication, otherwise it won't work, but if it does work I imagine it will be really intriguing.

As I don't know the world very well either, I'd like to not go at the beginning. Everything else will be fine with me :)

End of this month only... I'm a little backlogged, and I had an unexpected trip come up that I have to take.

As for the concert thingy... they hold these huge goth/industrial/metal fest all over the country, and they all lead up towards Burning Man out iin the Nevada desert (I think). Because they're so widespread, and even into Europe, it would be an easy way for each character to start out, and then weave through each others lives as they move towards Burning Man following the concert or some such thing... I didn't really work it out too well in my head before I suggested it. I'll see if I can get some research in to clarify my thought... but I can't promise anything. >.< :nana:

Alright. That works. *laughs*

What we can do, if we need an entire schedule posted beforehand.... we can write things and send them via private mail to one another to read and wait until everything is done, THEN submit a schedule and begin posting the stories to Lit. That way we don't have to rein in our characters because sometimes they run away with us. Well, at least mine do.

I will leave that up to you, all, though.

Sounds good to me. I'm all for that, if it's okay with everyone else.

I'd say PM Laurel and ask... LOL, it'd drive me nuts to sit on something for months after I'd written it.
I may have an answer to that :S But let me check and make sure what I think is there actually is before I offer that option.

DArk, sweetheart, I'll probably have the first chapter done by the end of the month, edited and ready, but why bother making it part of the Chain category? Why not just title it "DeusXMachina: nameand number" and post to Non-human? We keep the chain going without trying to work in an dout of all the Chain rules. (The RNRF series taught me what a hassle that is if you don't already have a set schedule.) And PMing Laurel has never worked for me... then again, she might just have me blocked, lol.

Angel

Well, for one reason, I'd kind of like to have the chain category filled for Survivor :D but that's just me being completely egoistic, feel free to ignore. Seeing how many "inactive but still open" chains there are, they don't seem to have a problem with people submitting only the first part of the schedule and not plan in the ending yet. If we ask real nicely, they may let us do this... I hope.

I am doing this for Survivor as well. So that's my point.

I have ANOTHER idea... If this might work better....

We all submit our first chapters in the appropriate category and not consider that part of the chain. THEN after we have read and are ready to begin on the actual CHAIN story, we can go from there with a schedule? Would that work better?

I am going to look into the rules and see if we have to have a definate END date on it. I like to use the rules to the fullest advantage. *grins*

**EDIT**

I looked over the rules and it just has to say who is doing what chapters in what order. It doesn't say we have to have a definate date or time frame for an end...

I could work with it either way, though I do think it would be best to all submit our individual first chapters at about the same time. :) Is there any reason we couldn't do that while submitting into the chain category? The minimum between submissions for a chain is only a day or two, if memory serves - so they could all be up in less than two weeks either way, after we start submitting.

(And, yes, I am doing survivor - but I also like the concept of this particular chain.)

As we write, we can always post snippets here including atmospheric details and such.
The chain counts as a chain regardless. The singles at the beginning could be part of the chain or they could be singles. The singles could count as a submission in another category. That was all I was thinking. I will leave that up to you guys cause it doesn't matter to me either way. *laughs*
