Cheapperfume does: Pretty in Pink

Too far I think.

If it's the flow and rhythm you're attracted to, then you're just attracted to the language in general, and not just the voice acting of anime.

Voice actors chief job really is to take a script and make it feel like natural conversation.
I know, most natural conversations irl don't happen in space or in some spirit dimension, but it's supposed to feel like how conversation WOULD go should that actually happen.

The English is the same way, they take great care to match the emotion and feeling of the original work, translating it to the best possible way (although honestly, the Japanese have some phrases that are meaningless when directly translated to English, so all you can do is find an English equivalent that'll convey the same message).

Naturally, there's always some actors that are better than others, but that's the same in any acting industry and the Japanese surely have their share of bad actors.

The problem when trying to compare English acting to Japanese is that while you can understand inflections of words in English and the emotion it conveys, you can't do that for a language you don't speak. So you can only understand if the word is technically spoken correctly, but you don't really know if the actor is really portraying an emotion right based off their voice alone. You can't really apply English language word inflections to Japanese.

Well, except for anger.
Anger is the easiest emotion to display and understand.

Alright, sorry, I'm rambling in your thread. :D
Did I mention you have a sweet ass? :D

Yeah, I worked with voice acting for about five years when I was studying in Musical Theatre and such. We worked heavily on inflections and rhythms when it came to other english speaking cultures but all the other languages (especially eastern) weren't ever touched.

I suppose when you're dealing with a country that has such a differnt culture to your own, there's a superfluous amount of variables that you have to take into account. I understand that it's a voice actors job to make the script seem seamless and as if it were a part of everyday conversation...however, when it comes to a western vs. eastern culture, it's often found that eastern actors/directors strive for a more, dramatic and intense script and dialogue and therefor makes me wonder whether they've even TRIED to make the dialogue flow in the way a 'normal' conversation would play out.

While I'm sure the Japanese have their fair share of bad actors, they study under COMPLETELY different techniques to the US, Britian, Australia, etc. And work torwards a different style. I kind of get the sense that they still think very highly of a whole melodramatic/epic theatre kind of stuff, which is NOT what a lot of western cultures consider to be 'theatre forward' these days and is probably considered as 'bad acting' lol.

having said that, I don't LIVE in Japan. So I can only go off what I've found through the wonderful experience of research (And painstakingly long cut scenes from the final fantasy games *facepalm*). I suppose when it all comes down to it, each viewer/listener is going to have their own oppinion as to what's better and why. As long as people keep watching, haha!

and haha, rambles are a-okay in this thread *smiles*

Wow, I got to say that finding out you actually did some voice acting work is surprising.

I don't mean that in an insulting way, it's just that it's not something you normally run into on a daily basis, espeically on a forum like this. :D

I've always wanted to get into voice acting myself, and I probably could, but I'm kinda too shy and have no acting experiences whatsoever.

The closest I got was taking this 8 hour acting class in Burbank that one of the major anime dubbing studios was giving. It was very good and informative. I didn't do as good as I thought I would, but I should have done better. My previously mentioned shyness made it hard for me to really go all out in front of all those new people, not to mention an instructor that dubbed one of my favorite animes of all time.

I'd actually prefer doing voice work for orignal American animation, but dubbing anime wouldn't be bad either. :p

At least my rant got a smile out of you, so it couldn't be all bad. :)

You should definately give it a shot *smiles* people are ALWAYS looking for voice actors...not to mention I'm preeeeetty sure they get paid well, lol.

And don't worry about not having any experience! You seem passionate enough about the field to know what you're talking about...and besides. You know how to feel? well then I'm pretty sure you know how to act. After all, acting IS feeling based up given circumstances -- and all that other Stanislavski junk *grins*

If you're shy, it's pretty much the most wonderfully passionate thing you can get a hold of. Not to mention it constantly quenches your thirst for new knowledge, outlooks and beliefs. A trade where you're always discovering!

point is;

go voice act! lol

Just wanted to say quickly that you are lovely and your ass especially is wonderful. I hope whoever you're with gives you a good spanking now and again.
