Child of Eden

Eden

"Rock? Why are you in the tree?" I stood at the base, staring up at the sleeping.... man? Wondering curiously why he found a tree to be more comfortable than the beds inside the house?
Hands on my hips, I waited for an answer, and did not care he was sleeping at the moment.
"ROCK!" I yelled up in that huffy tone of voice, "wake up..." I grinned as cute as possible as his eye lids parted.

"YEOW!!!" Rock shot up and fell out of the tree, and was sprawled on the ground, with his butt in the air "Did I say some thing wrong in my sleep?"

Eden

I laughed as he landed, looking up all messy like with a stunned look on his face.
"You're funny." I chuckled again moving over to stand over his head and sitting down to his level.
"Why were you in the tree? Trying to be a bird?" I asked. Again times wear thin and one can not forever be 'little' in their thought proccess.
"There is trouble around here, you should be in the safety of the house. Not out here." I glanced up, darkness was falling soon and I had yet to study today.
"I must go and study, you can find your own entertainment for tonight. I will see you at dinner? Silly fox.." I grinned, getting back up to my feet and walking slowly inside. I had to study or I would never master this curse, fact said Master. So off I was going, tryin' my hardest not to groan in agony.

Rock sat up, "studying? At her age?" Rock thought "She mus be extreamly determand to master her powers!" Rock got up and brushed himself off, then went to his room

"Theres got to be something to do here! Hmmm... I know I put it in here some where... here it is." Rock grabed a manga book "Evangelion" And began to read so he could kill some time

"Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen. I am terirbly sorry, but the museum is about to close. Would you please go back to the main lobby. We will open bright and early tomorrow at eight O'clock. We hope you come again."
Ushers in red coats began in an ever so sweet tone to push the regular cattle of people back onto the street. The paintings left alone, sculptures piercing the dark, with no one to oogle at their soft curves and lifelike designs.
Depp moved with precision against the darkened corridors, pressing himself against the walls.
"How we doing?"
One of the men gave a thumbs up sign, moving into the main wing. The camera's here had been indisposed of for the moment, they could walk in ease.
"Where is it?"
"Right here boss. The necklace."
He looked behind a piece of plated glass, at a brown hemp crossing, and in the middle it held a red jewel, that seemed to glow in the fading light.
"Thats it?"
He broke the glass with his fist. A siren went off immediately, but at that time they had all fled the room, leaving through several areas. No fuss, no muss. The whole thing took about 4 and a half minutes.
Depp wore the necklace, a symbol of both his pride and cynnicism back to the hideout, only giving it up when the old ladies wrinkled hands reached up for it.
"Woman, I want to know where she is."
"Aye, aye, you'll know. I just need it."
He handed it to her.
She let the jewel hang from its rope, suspended over the crystal ball. For a moment, the pink swirls turned a deep lavender, and then a purple. It glowed brighter than even Depp had seen before, not that he was trying to look. He had moved back to his old spot in the window, but he saw through the reflection.
It was sickening.
The old woman's eyes moved throughout the now purple smoke with great enthusiasm.
"Yes, yes," she cackled, her voice harse ad hoarse, "I see now."
Depp growled, looking back at her.
"She's at the old Wizards mansion across town. Occupying it with a few servants at the moment. I'd be careful if I were you..."
Depp gave another growl, "Why is that?"
The old woman smiled, "She knows your coming."

Eden

I sat at the desk, reading and rereading what I had read before, trying to understand the meaning of the words. It was frustrating and slow with out Master around to explain things in simpler terms. Looking up at the dictionary across the room, I stared intently at it, summoning up the will power to bring it to me. As I stared it began to shake slightly and lift, before it would fall back down. Again I tried, harder this time, pictured it floating through the air and coming to me. I could do this mind stuff..... maybe..
After fifteen minutes of failures it lifted and moved across the floor, a smile broke across my face and the book faltered. Quickly as I could I dropped the smile and thought harder on the book. Bring it to me, I kept thinking over and over again as it crossed the room. It was almost to the desk when a knock interrupted my thoughts and the thick book slammed down loudly on the floor. grumbling as i moved, I hopped down and walked around the desk, bending down and picking it up.
"Enter." I lugged the huge thing back to the desk and dropped it on the surface.
"Would you like your bath now Eden?" I glanced up at Lissa and sighed, I would love a bath but I hadn't learned anything yet.
"No, not now." I ignored her until she vanished from my air space into some cubby hole somewhere hopefully. And again I began to read again the same sentence for the forth time. Only this time I found the words in the dictionary and read the definitions as I went along. Still did not make sense, but it was becoming clearer a little at a time. Again I sensed the danger, but knew it was not against me. Whom ever it was merely wished to harness me... I wondered if they had ice cream and god tv channels? Well if they didn't I wasn't going with them, I didn't care if they ate Lissa for dinner or not!
Back to reading....

Rock groaned out of boredem. He has been in te room doing nothing for quite a while. He went down to See if Eden was okay, but Lisa asked him not to bother her when she was studying. "It creeps me out, to see someone so young so determand to learn.... hmm?" Rock felt something not right and sat up quickly "What was that feeling?"

Eden

I stood by the window of the den. Watching the distance between me and the gate seem to grow longer and longer. I felt trapped in this house, and knew I was. In a sense to remain here would get me killed. To leave would also do more harm than good. What was I to do? I shifted a little, I could hear Lissa and Rock arguing over my safety or something. I paid no mind to it as I looked up at the snow owl sitting in the tree.
Strange, the owl was in the wrong damned part of the country for snow, it wasn't winter either. A pet perhaps? Someone watching over me? I chuckled, this isnt harry potter. It was just a beautiful creature who wished my company.
To test this theory out, I pushed open the den windows and stood there watching the wide eyed bird watch me. It cocked its head to the side and I followed suit, this was rather amusing for all of three seconds before I got bored once more and stopped.
My eyes moved past the bird resting on the dark bark of the tree as I thought of something. anything I could do to pass the time.
Staring off into 'space' for a few minutes got me no where, when my eyes came back into focus, I was again staring at the tree before me. My eyes followed it up and up, a smile breaking out over my face. Climb the tree! This old pine was a good twenty feet up, I could get to the roof of the house with way! That would give me something to do for the time being anyway.
Stepping out onto the window ledge, I grabbed the tree limb above my head and stepped out on the other one below. I felt my heart leap a little as the braches dipped and swayed under my weight. The owl moved, hopping to another branch and watching me. I kept moving, inch by inch until I reached the thicker parts of the branches. Up and up I climbed, branch by branch until I was level with the top floor's roof. ok so maybe it was only thirty feet off the ground, but it was a good distance to me. The limbs were too flimsey for me to get to the roof from this tree, so I sat down and picked a pine cone, chucking it at the roof as I thought. There was an old oak tree on the other side.. It was near my bedroom, it had to be better for climbing. I heard voices below me once again, scooting back into the dark shadows of the tree, I sat there and tried not to listen to Lissa's nasally voice whining.

"Tis a true feat, especially for someone as young as you."
Depp was leaning against the side of the tree, looking down at her. He stood against one of the sturdier branches, but it still dipped hard under his weight.
"I didn't mean to startle you," his eyes, filled with starlight, looked at hers, "I just wanted to compliment you. Not every day such a young child climbs a big tree.
"Of course, you're not exactly a young child, are you? Outwardly, of course, just a simple blonde haired cute-as-a-button little girl, but you're not. We both know."
He offered her his hand, "Do you want to go somewhere and talk? Just you and me, alone for a few minutes; the roof perhaps? I want to help you, and I want to show you something."
He cocked one of his eyes, knowing she wouldn't trust him as of yet, but if she knew anything of her power, she knew she could take care of herself if the situation grew dim.
"I don't bite... hard."
He smiled.

Rock sat silently on a chair listing to Lisa's concern. "I don't think a little girl should stay in the house for so long!"

Rock slowly sighed letting his ears twitch slightly, "Lissa, I know that, but L feel an dark pressence comming, and they are comming after her, and I bet she knows that also."

Lissa slammed her hands down on the table, "But Why!? Why would they come after an young child like Enden!?"

".... You and I both know why, they want her powers, or to destroy it for that matter..."

"And you came for the same reason! So why should I trust you?!"

"... Then I guess you shouldn't!" Rock stooded up and walked out of the door.

Eden

Lissa was looking for me as well as Rock, but I knew how to mask my presence from others and did so without a second thought. That is when I heard a smooth voice above me. Glancing up the branch to the man standing above me, I listened to his words but said nothing.
I had to control my temper and as well as not be too trusting. My eyes darkened a little as he offered me his hand, inviting me to listen to him. What could it hurt? I was bored and he was sort cute. For an old old guy.. I bet Lissa would like him. I'd think on that one a little longer first.
"You don't bite hard?" I laughed a little at that, "A vampire bites very hard and that is what you are is it not?" I took his hand, knowing that if all else failed I could burn down the entire house if I felt threatened in the slightest.
"And yes, I am cute as a button aren't I?" I flashed a wicked little grin that clearly said I was egotistical and spoiled as well and proud of it.
Up on the roof I sat, eyeing him and wondering just what it was he wanted and why he was here to see me of all people? Then a thought popped into my head, "You want to be cured too don't you?"

He gave a curt laugh, kneeling down next to the little angel, "To be cured, my dear, implies that I have some sort of disease. I do not wish to become human, if that is what you mean. No, I have others things in mind, bigger things.
"Let us talk about you for a moment. You can tell me how wrong I am..."
He sat back, looking up at the twilight sky, now littered with a few brave stars coming out to conquer day and turn it to night. He admired that.
"You are fed up, with a lot of things. People all your life have told you what you can, and can't do. They tell you when to go to bed, what to study, where you can go, and more importantly, where you can't go. In short, you're a little dog locked up in this mansion...
"Most of all, you're fed up with your powers. No one can give you a straight answer what they are, how far they go, and what you can do with them, do they? Limitless powers, and aside from a few little tricks here and there, you can't do a thing with them."
He now looked at her, a sparkle now brightening on his face, despite the sun's setting.
"I want, in short, to help you. I want to show you something no one else will, power, fortune, fame. You can spend years harnessing your power, or I can show you over night the true potential you have. I won't hinder you, or pretend you are some little girl, I will treat you with respect, and give you the world if you ask of it.
"In short, I want to help you achieve your dreams, your desires, your true wants out of life. Everyone has these, but not everyone has the ability to bring them to life... you do."

Roc was insanely pissed off, he knew Lissa was some what right, but any body who wants power will come after her..., rock felt his ears twitch, he heard voices on the roof, and he wanted to investigate it. He jumped up and slowly moved torwards the two, he knew one was Eden, but the other he didn't know, he prepaired his sword and called out,

"Eden... Who is this?"

Eden

The longer he talked the more I felt something inside me grow. Now was this hope or desire? I was confused some what, but everything he spoke of was something I wanted and longed to have. I was tired of dolls and barney! For christ sake I wanted something more than pink dresses and bows in my hair. I was tired of trying to learn when nothing in the written word made sense.
"Are you the devil?" I asked seriously, he was tempting me beyond anyone had ever done before. It was a safe assumption he could be satan... Right?
"You offer all this to me, without knowing me and me knowing you. You ask for trust and will give whatever you can to please what is by all standards a little girl and yet asking nothing in return? You want something from me dont you Depp?" I could see his eyes widen a little as I used his name, I could catch bits and pieces from him, knowledge but nothing could uncover the true definition of his soul without him baring it to me.
I heard Rock coming and turned quickly, placing myself between Depp and Rock I took a moment to collect my thoughts and clear my mind.
"He is a friend Rock, put the sword away. I wish to speak with him without interruption." I knew I ordered him but I had the right to some privacy didn't I!?
I turned back to Depp, my curiousity clear in my eyes, "Tell me Depp, what is in this for you to aid me, and aside from what is in it for me, how do I know you do not lie?"

Rock slowly put his sword back in his hilt, he didn't want to, not trusting this depp character, but knowing Eden's temper, it would probaly be best to do so, The hilt clicked as it went all the way in, but he kept his hand on it just in case.

"There is a feud, within the vampire clans. I won't bore you with the specifices," if she was being straight up, he decided to as well, "I want to end the feud, and bring myself in as the leader. Create harmony in the chaos that envelopes now, nothing more."
Depp looked down below, at the angered man on the ground. He raised an eyebrow, but nothing more. It was no one, and deserved none of his time.
"You are a strong woman, even if you don't know your limits as of yet, you still have incredible power. I'm sure if you want, you could turn me into a gnat or banana or Spice girl, or whatever is in your fancy at the moment. That is why I'm being so straight up honest with you, because I know if I lie to you, you will kill me in a heartbeat.
"I'm not the devil. I'm not tempting you, I am simply giving you a choice. You do not have to follow me. I'm sure if you read your books and have certain people, "he nodded downward, "screen every single person you talk to, in about twenty years or so, you'll have mastered your power, and do whatever you want."
He licked his lips, moistening them. They felt so dry all of a sudden.
"Perhaps a demonstration is in order, something small. Just to see if I am telling the truth..."

Eden

My temper sparked brightly as I felt the rook tremble under my feet.
"They will not screen anyone!" I said it so loudly I swear it echoed over the valley. My temper brewed and simmered again.
"Yes, a demonstration is inorder..." I moved to stand before him and motioned him down to my level.
"I am going to... well touch you.. so don't freak out on me ok?" I met his eyes with my own, reaching out and placing my hands first on his shoulders. He was a big old guy compared to me, I wondered if it was safe to do this?
"No wait.. Better wait." I backed away instantly, seperating us by a good five feet.
"I do not know exactly what would happen if I tried to read your thoughts and something happened.." I worried a little about turning him into a drooling moron, as much as him doing something to me.
"I can see how much sense it makes to have one leader over a group of creatures who are ruled by pain and anger.... Someone to keep tabs on all of them, put in rules and consequences for their actions.. I will come with you on one condition... My body guard comes with me." I pointed over my shoulder at Rock and grinned sweetly.

Depp squinted as he looked over the side once more. The pest seemed to be more of a problem than he thought. However, there was no need to be threatened at the moment. The man knew nothing of his plans.
Ignorance worked in his favor.
"Good," he picked her up, jumping down to the ground. He landed with little effort, able to set her aside from her bodyguard.
"I believe all your power has been taught in books. You know nothing of which is written there, none of the real tricks of the trade, so to speak. Today is lesson day."
He walked out into the front yard, beckoning for them to follow.
"Keep up please, it is a long night, and we have much to do."
It wasn't long before they moved into a somewhat deserted alleyway, empty except for the trashcans, urging with their smell to be cleaned.
"Martha..." his voice soft, seductive. It rang a tone through the hearts of those that heard it, but more importantly, to the woman at the corner, in the short dress, with too much makeup on.
She loved that tone. It purred through her, sending shivers into her soul.
She walked blindly into the alley.
Depp took her in his arms, feeding graciously. He tore at the flesh on her neck, blood spilling all over her body, as well as draining into his own mouth. Nourishment, yes, but he was sloppy for a reason.
He laid the poor woman down, her breath shallow, and blood still pouring out from the wound.
"She will die soon," he wiped his mouth clean, "Unless you can save her. I want you to touch her Eden. Put your hand on her wound, and heal her."
His eyes urged her forward.

Eden

He hefted me easily and landed on the ground, I smiled wanting to do it again but he set me down and started walking.
"Keep up Rock." I began to follow the tall vampire through the gates and into town. Pausing in the alley, I wondered how he called her and was tempted to ask until he had her in his arms and tearing out her throat.
Most would have turned their head and vomitted on sight, but I stared in fascination of what he was doing and the whore's moans of pleasure until he tore out her throat. I stepped back as blood went everywhere, not wanting to get any on my clean shoes. Depp turned to me, his eyes landing on mine as he spoke up.
"Save her?" Why would I want to save her? She was one of those kinds of people... Course I couldn't stand to see her suffer either. I shook my head negatively, I didn't want to touch her.
"Can't you fix it?" I asked in a small voice, still uncertain in this whole thing. He looked annoyed and I wanted to learn!
Stepping forward I knelt down and avoided the blood. Her eyes were wide with fear as she tried to breath, her whole body shaking as blood spurted out her neck.
Touch her... heal her? Lord I did not want to touch blood! I did though, I laid my hand down on her throat and closed my eyes. Ok Eden.. Think healing thoughts or something...
I felt a tear slip down my cheek as I tried to figure it out. Then frustrated because it wasn't working, my temper riled up a little at the unfairness of it all. She shouldn't die because I couldn't heal her! With it came the trembling and the strange tugging in my stomach, I pulled my hand away, "This isn't working....." I gasped as I looked down at her throat, the wound was gone.
But how? I turned and glanced up at Depp, unsure how that happened?
"I dont understand it, but it worked.." I glanced at Rock and then back to Depp.

Depp came in with a cloth, wiping the blood from her hand, smiling at her. Fascinating, just fascinating.
"There are two kinds of magic inside you, my dear. If I have done my homework on the subject. There is a refined magic, which will take years and years before you can use, or a wild untainted kind, which is at your disposal right now. It is the same magic that you use when you are scared or angry and want to do things, and then they happen? You are drawing it from the same place."
He leaned down to the ground, looking at her neck, the wound gone. She smiled, sleeping soundly. He gave her a kiss, whispering upon her lips.
She stood up, and walked away, without so much as a glance back.
"If you think about something hard enough, concentrate and pull all your thought onto one thing, like saving that woman, then you can do anything. There is no limit to your potential."
He raised his eyes, once more looking her way.
"You get it, or is another lesson in order? Perhaps you'd like to pick it this time."

Eden

Things began to dawn on me, when ever I was determined and wanted it bad enough, my mind cleared and things began to happen. Angry or happy, things changed. I watched the woman walk away in a dazed state of mind and knew I wanted something desperately, but I would not voice it right now.
"No, I need no more lessons tonight Depp. I need to think and sleep.." I watched him wipe the blood from my hand before he let go of me. My eyes meeting his, I had many things to think about. How would one mature their body and their mind at the same time? I had the knowledge but I needed more than that. I was tired of being bossed around and too little to understand, or so they thought.
"I would like to learn more, but I would prefer to do it tomorrow evening. I shall return home now Depp, I trust you will come back soon?" He wanted something, he needed my aid, I was sure he would come back soon.
"I would like to ask questions, understand a few things but in time...." I paused, not yet willing to tell what was on my mind. They would find it silly and tell me not to 'grow up too soon' but it was my main goal. If I can heal and alter her cells, I can alter my own as well. I smiled, a wicked little grin growing brighter by the second. I had a mission and by the end of three days I intended on being full grown and on my own.

"My dear, I wouldn't have it any other way. I am sure you want to think it over, and I have no doubt that there are others who'd like to share their input as well."
He rose up before her, nodding at her decision.
"I will return the next evening, and we can discuss more then. Questions, lessons, this is your teachings, not mine. Whatever you want to learn, wherever you want to go, I will be there."
He needed her trust, he must have it, but he had to earn it. He could no more control her than control the sky or the birds.
Not yet.
"I bid you goodnight milady."
He left within the shadows.

Eden

I smiled and bid him good night. Turning I took Rock's hand in mine and tugged him along with me.
"Come along, we best hurry home before Lissa has cows, chickens and a few squirrels as well.."
I said nothing more as I walked along, my mind going over and over again and again the possibilities of this curse inside me.
Reaching the house I bid a hasty good night and made it to me room as soon as possible.
I locked myself inside and sat on the bed. I had to concentrate to do this, I wanted to do this too.

~*~*~*~*~

hours later I lay on the bed, worn out and too tired to move. I did not feel different, I felt the same but I was too chicken to look into the mirror. I would check in the morning and see if anything had happened. I fell asleep, dreaming of blood soaked sheets and weeping children.

Depp kneeled down against the roof, revealing old scrolls. Paper that was brown with age, flapping in the gentle breeze that had picked up.
"How was it?"
Turning back, his hair caught against the side of his face, and between whisps he could make out the feminine figure of the elder woman. Without a thought he went back to his studies, her question lost in the wind.
"Depp, I asked you a question."
"I heard you, woman."
She drew in her breath, "You arrogant little..."
He cut her off, "Perfect. She is skeptical, like I imagined, but she is very intrigued. I think she'll take my offer."
She stood beside him, her hand going to his shoulder. It felt cold, and he wanted to recoil, but her grip held.
"Be wary, you know what'll happen if she finds out."
He nodded, thinking nothing more.
"Worse than death."
"Aye, I've read the legends."
She gave him the necklace, the one he had stolen from the museum.
"Don't let her see this. Its a very strong talisman. It will help you with her, hide some of your true intentions, and even counteract an attack or two."
He held it in his hands. Such a strong weapon, and yet so tiny. Just like her.
"If she sees it?"
"She'll know its power, and your true intent. Even if she doesn't have the knowledge, something inside will tell her."
He shivered, putting the thing under his shirt, so it couldn't be seen.
"Thank you."
"Your welcome, my child."
He flipped over one of the parchments, reading on.

Eden

I awoke bright and early, stretching out on my bed and wondering what woke me? Realizing I could hear a vaccume running somewhere, I debated on getting up and yelling at Lissa for disturbing my rest.
Last night's dream was very strange, I shook my head wondering where I had gotten such gruesome dreams from lately? I mean come on.. A vampire ripping out someone's throat and I did nothing but watch?
I stretched again and crawled out of the bed, scratching my tummy, I wandered into my private bathroom and stepped on the stool. Thats when my eyes caught my reflection in the mirror.
Screaming blood curdling loud I fell off the stool and landed on my rear on the tile floor.
"Ooff!" Reaching down at the smarting backside, I gave it a rub and then glanced back up at the mirror. A small smile broke out over my face and then a glum look.
"I'm just seeing things!" I stood up just as Lissa barged into my room. I turned and glanced at her with a scowl on my face and she too gaped back at me.
"E-Eden?" She mumbled.
"Well duh! Who else would be in my bathroom at seven in the fucking morning!?"
She leaned against the door frame, her eyes wide and her face pale.
"What have you done!?" I sighed and stood before the mirror, my bright blue eyes turning back to my reflection with a grin.
"I did nothing but eat my veggies...." I smirked as I gazed at myself.
"Your c-clothes don't fit.." She pointed out the obvious as I glanced down over my body.
"Wow.." I was confused, excited and eager to try this maturing process once more.... I knew better though, I needed at least a day before trying it again, going too quickly might cause problems. Then again, it might not?
"Lissa, I need something that fit's me, please find me something I can wear until I can get to the store.."
Her head nodded as her eyes scoped me up and down once more. Before her stood a young woman, approximently fifteen years old.
"How?" She asked again but I paid no mind to her at all.
"If you must know, it was just sure will power..."
"This isn't right Eden.. things can go badly wrong with you messing with things like this.. Master warned you...."
"SHUT UP!" I cut her off and turned my heated glare on her in an instant.
"I am SICK and fucking TIRED of being told what to do, when to do it! How to dress and when and if I can watch tv.. I have never been five, not from the moment I could think at the age of ONE!" I barked at her, then softened somewhat at her terrified gaze.
"Look. I am sorry Lissa.. but I am tired of being trapped by a number.. By the end of the week I will be full grown and making my own path in life... You can stand in my way and suffer or you can just help me as a friend as you were intended to. Which ever way you choose, but choose wisely.." I turned back to the mirror, tugging on the nightgown.
"And please do hurry with someone suitable to wear..."
Lissa must have made up her mind, she turned and quickly left the room. I didn't know if she was coming back or not, but It didn't really matter. I felt a powerful surge throughout my being and knew I was doing something wise for once.
Lissa returned with a robe and a measuring tape. She took all my measurements, wrote them down and promised to return within an hour with clothing that fit me. I thanked her, hugged her for the first time ever and went instantly to the Den.
I needed to study, I needed to learn everything I could, absorb the useful information that would mature my mind and help me on this very short journey into adulthood. No more pink frilly dresses, no more bed times or PG rated movies for me. I was not going to tollerate it..
Depp... His name entered my mind and I smiled, I had him to thank for this. For showing me some of what I was capable of. For an old guy he was pretty smart... And maybe just maybe, useful to me as well?
I sat at the desk in the robe, reading page after page of information that would help me in the most meaningless way possible, but it was necessary if I wanted to be grown up in mind as well as body..
"Who the hell uses algebra anyways!? Fucking morons.." I grumbled, sipping a coke and turning the pages. My mind working furiously over the numbers, checking my answers with the back and moving on. This was too easy dammit, I had yet to miss one. But would books teach logic and rational though process? This I had to think about.
I glanced up as Rock passed the doorway.
"Hey Rock, whats up?" I grinned and waited for him to return to the door and gasp in amazement as well. That or think I was someone else.. This might be funny..
