***CLOSED FOR CHERRYDOLL***
Growing up Mike wanted nothing more than to play football for State U. When he actually was offered a scholarship, he jumped at the chance. This was good, his family was definitely middle class and going to college on their dime would have been a challenge. The scholarship was good news for the entire family - it would allow his parents to pay tuition for his sister 2 years his junior. Life was good. His parents couldn't be prouder.
Mike redshirted his first year. This was to be expected. It gave him time to adjust to school and put on weight. Life was tough as basically a tackling dummy for the starting squad but he enjoyed the perks of being on the team. Needless to say, the girls flocked to the team. It didn't hurt that he was basically a nice guy and good looking too.
His next year didn't go so well. Nagging injuries kept him out of practice for much of the season and that kept him from seeing action in games for all but a few minutes of garbage time. He tried to maintain a good attitude but it was hard. All this work and nothing to show for it. Plus his body was a mess.
The summer before the next season was winding up. All the missed practice time hurt him and he was still listed at 3rd string, doubtful to see much meaningful time again. He was this close to quitting. But how could he? His little sister was about to start college and he knew his parents couldn't afford to pay two tuition bills. He loved football but his heart was no longer in it. Why should he have to get his ass kicked just because she couldn't get a scholarship of her own? He knew she looked up to him but had no idea how much he was struggling. And she was so excited to finally be in college, on her own.
