Comments that leave you shaking your head

I know I've asked this many times, and the fact that I can't remember means I keep discarding the knowledge as unimportant, but what's a preposition?
Once you recognize that they generally indicate a literal (juxta) position of different things, it becomes easy to remember.

Around, through, under, up, upon, between, by, at, inside, etcetera

(well, not etcetera, that's not a position word)

(except for the good old Ithaca Etcetera, but the Cornell tradition of triple-pens aren't what we're talking bout here)

Sixth grade teacher taught us 'the house of prepositions'.

... to the house
... at the house
... in the house
... over the house
... around the house
... behind the house

etc, etc

To understand the context, I suppose it matters how big each part is and when Pt. 01 was published.
If 2k words and Pt. 01 to Pt. 02 was a month, possibly he has a point, if only a minor one.
If 5k+ words and a week, then...
Well I mean when they're paying you to meet deadlines🤷

Oh, wait....
Nevermind

I've tried to reply to this post several times and each time made me sound more defensive over my process, my work and myself.
So I'll just say, thank you for taking the time to reply.

Don't worry, I wouldn't get upset, and I realise I sounded a bit provocative (but it is in my engineering* DNA and my broken X chromosome**). After all, I reserve the right to be (proved) wrong, and will insult myself first, as it reduces other people's scope.

I apologise, I was just making the point (clumsily) that there could be a reason for the comment, but I lacked data, but possibly I should have researched.

I know I have some series that are not concluded, and possibly I should have readers asking 'WTF happened next', but I sadly seem to be nearly immune from comments. But when your muse wanders off, or has other ideas, what is an author to do?

*I consider engineers to be physicists with poor mathematics.
**All men are mutants, which is why we suffer from more genetic diseases more often, and why women are practically perfect in every single way.

Thank you for taking the time to come back to me and to do it so warmly and with self-deprecation. I really do appreciate it.
For context, I'm seriously very new to all this and a few times when I've posted in the Authors thread I've had a number of 'Silly woman, doesn't know how the world works.' replies, so am quite defensive.
Sometimes justifiably, other-times, less so.

And on this occasion I was wrong.

Going back to the comment to my story from the reader. I think it was a combination of the expectation vs reality that irked me. I feel I am a reasonably quick writer (probably at the detriment to my quality control and overall narrative arcs) and also it felt very teacher-y 'timely fashion' = pull your socks up, which I really didn't like.

But I really do appreciate your response. No harm, no foul.
Hope your day is going well and the sun is shining where you are.

It's a shitty comment from someone that has no works of their own yet has 371 comments on other people's work most of which I imagine are in the same vein. Perhaps he thinks he's enid blyton.

Delete it and please try and ignore him as his view has no bearing on you or your story. And remember he's living in his mum's basement.

The Internet is such a weird place. It's so full of these losers who desperately want to pretend they're important for just a few seconds.

If it helps any, I have 3 parts written for a 4 part series, 2 yrs and counting. Why? Because I've started the 4 part 3 times and deleted it every time. It always turns out to be a rehash of part 1. Sure it's just a stroker series, but it's a pretty decent stroker, and I feel I need to make the last part worthy. A rehash with a few minor differences would probably be fine but that bores me to write so I don't wanna, so I'm not. Just had a question from a reader two days ago about the next part; no idea yet, maybe never. Do I owe readers a fourth? Yes, to an extant, but I also owe it to them and me to make it worth while, so I wait until I like an idea. So be it. Moral? It's a hobby, take as long as you want/ need to hell with anyone who says different.

This one.

If you read this it seems like a normal (well, sort of) comment on a taboo story. Thing is this comment was placed on my recent fetish story and is about an I/T story I wrote three years ago. Since then this person has posted on many of my stories asking and sometimes demanding there be a sequel to that story. They've sent several anon feedbacks saying the same thing and when they did contact me with an e-mail I could reply to I told them I was glad they liked the story but I have no plans for a sequel and their reply was "Well, you better!"

Haven't heard from them for a few months but here they are again. Fatal Attraction Literotica style.

I want to read the continuation of the story of Nate and Zoey incest between brother and sister in pumpkin kind! I want Nate to marry his sister and then 18 years later Nate and Zoey fuck their daughter at the cemetery in the pumpkin grove where the story beg
an

I mentioned this to my wife once and that night-middle of the night, she starts whispering in a creepy voice, "I want the pumpkin story! I want it nowwwwww"

This is why I don't say much about what goes on here to her.

As I had seen this sort of comment, I started adding a 'For those who like closure.' section to my One Off stories (not always a matter of a few lines). The problem I now have is that if they wake up (like one recently did after two years) the story is constrained by what I said the future was going to be.
But if anything like Slave19941994 ever happened to me, I would suggest he wrote the story he has outlined, with different character names, and post it himself. I might even suggest that I could proofread it! I think that would put him off!

None of this matters if one simply finishes the entire story before submitting any of the chapters. It also shows great respect to your readers that you won't leave them hanging.

This is complete bollocks.

First, you have no idea if he has written anything. It could be Salman Rushdie on a secret ID. More commonly, there are many writers here who have separate accounts for writing and commenting and there is nothing wrong with that.

Second, the readers have ZERO obligation to write anything themselves in order to comment on a story. Have you ever directed a feature movie? Then why do you tell your friends which movies are worth seeing or not? If being a writer yourself was a qualification for commenting, then our feedback here would drop tenfold. Get a grip.

Third, if it had been a positive comment, then you would have no problem accepting the comment with zero regard for whether the commenter was a writer himself. Guaranteed! So fuck that shit.

Fourth, it wasn't a shitty comment. Certainly it came in rude packaging, but the content had valuable info. The reader is not fond of chaptered stories that either take forever with intermittent updates, or peter out and never finish. This is very good advice for the writer. This is a major sticking point in keeping this reader enjoying the stories, and if you ask around, he is HARDLY alone. It is VERY common for readers to become disenchanted with writers who lose interest in continuing their chaptered sagas. Many readers feel disrespected by this. It is VERY VERY common. There are several readers who refuse to read series that are not complete. We are all looking for eyeballs. This reader is straight up telling the writer that she will get more eyeballs if she is able to post on a regular schedule. It may not have anything to do with the actual writing itself, but it is very much a part of the reading experience and it's very valuable info.

You don't like the commenter because he hurt your feelings and he's rude. So what do you do? You give it right back rude and insult him. Well congratz. You get exactly what you ask for. You can't change what the commenters say to you or how they say it, but it's up to you if you ever want to become a better writer because only you can change your attitude. The only reason that this comment is worthless to you is because of your attitude.

The proper reply to this is if they want a completed work that's up to their standards, pay for it.

People are entitled to their opinions but many forget we do this for free, which is the same price they pay to read it.

The fact he used the words 'finish this mess' makes it a shitty comment as does the tone.

Try this: "Really enjoying this hope we don't have to wait to long for more."

And here's another way to see it. We have zero obligation to finish a damn thing at all, let alone on what they think is the proper schedule.

Thing is I imagine no one starts a series with the intent to never finish it. But things happen, simple writer's block, not as easy as they thought, or real life drama, changes or illness for themselves or a loved one. In other words, shit happens and when it does, the opinion of joeyfuckwit who is paying nothing to be here and can move on to another story easily enough really doesn't matter.

Writers finish for themselves, not anonymous hoovers sucking up free content.

Not a comment, and not shaking my head so much as scratching it curiously.

My feed tells me this LE member added my 750 story The Last Gasp tto Favorites twice. Which hints that it was possibly added to some type of list, right?

So I went to look. And this is the list of their Lists.

Currently I cant find mine on any of them; maybe it's too soon and they haven't updated yet.

But being added twice certainly lowers my odds of being included on the "Thoughtfully and insightfully written" list, doesnt it? 😆

They seem to have read 4.6k LW stories and no other category. I think this counts as being a danger to themselves and others.

Is that what that means? I had a notification repeated 7x the other day, I thought it was just a glitch.

not necessarily. Unfortunately a "Favorites" notification can have various meanings. including being added to various lists such as these.

Chances are they have private lists as well.

I'm just curious if they think these lists are somehow helpful, as if other readers are checking to see if a story is on one of these lists before wasting time reading it.

I'd say it's more for their purposes only, someone who likes lists. I think Em is on the money!
