Monday, 27 April 2026: Here's something on the Florida congressional redistricting maps, etc.,
 
Some Florida Republican incumbents reportedly are not happy about having their bases spread thinner. They may have a point.
 
Rethugs know their beliefs are madly unpopular, people are hip to the idea they cater only to the 1%, so what do they do? Make it harder to vote.


They are so afraid of the masses voting against their asses.

Translation: They do NOT like competition of anything: political, economic, educational, athletics, etc.,
 
Wednesday, 29 April 2026: Congressional Black Caucus responds to the US Supreme Court wiping out Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
 
Gerrymandering s a bad idea no matter who does it. And both parties are trying to get as much advantage as they can. It's not a Democrat thing or a Republican thing. It's a both-sides thing. And it just makes the divide sharper.

This is simply false. Nobody's voting rights are being eliminated, just the segregation of minorities into ghetto districts.

We'll see if Louisiana, Alabama and other states with such a sterling record on civil rights don't go back to drawing districts that make a point of preventing Black candidates from getting elected. That, of course, was the point of this portion of the Voting Rights Act in the first place.

Democrats voted to eliminate gerrymandering nationwide.
Republicans voted against it.

While we're in Houston, you might want to look into finding help saving Cornyn's Senate seat, which is in real danger of flipping to the Dems.
 
It doesn't matter if the districts are gerrymandered because the wealthy bought off both parties a long time ago. Democrats don't even want to stop ICE. Their entire job is to oretoect Republicans by preventing any real attempt at stopping them.

It's not the job of Democrats to vote for gerrymandering. It's their job to impotently shake their fist, put up a small amount of resistance that's guaranteed to lose, and otherwise prevent any meaningful resistance from forming.

I like voter approval of districting. Whatever a legislature or districting commission decides is not official yet until it gets a majority vote. Or several maps are proposed and voters pick one. I could see that as a proposed constitutional amendment.
