Cuba releases 53 of 81 political prisoners

There was a little bit of nipple perk-up over her when he announced the thawing of relations with Cuba, but I seriously doubt he's sweating over it from anyone on both ends.

In fact, if he were the actual radical the right paints him out to be, he'd grant her the customary Presidential amnesty at the end of his term, but I wouldn't hold out for that, either.

Maybe it's because I'm in Jersey and I know a lot of people on both sides of this issue with lot of passion.

Well, Vette? You got the names.

Do something pretty on stage while you're on it, because there must've been a point to you asking for them, hah?

They did years ago too, until Castro seized their property and assets. Will our gutless President ask Castro to return those assets? Never mind, we already know.

Hey, I got your names now tell me why it mattered!

And no, Obama won't ask if he did Castro most likely wouldn't and when was this property seized anyway?

[shrug] They want to do business in Cuba, now. Restitution of property seized in 1959 is not something any company is holding out as a precondition, AFAIK. It's a dead issue.

Cuba gave up nothing to President Obama in exchange for his recognition of their oppressive dictatorship. That island nation has nothing America needs.

What President Obama needs right now is something he can boast of as an historic accomplishment, and since his signature 2009 Affordable Health Care Act appears to be coming apart at the seams, he decided to make opening up Cuba his legacy, forgetting that only the House & Senate can provide funding for an embassy or end our economic embargo against that nation.

If the president had opted to recognize Cuba back in 2009, his party would probably have gone along with it, and as they controlled both the House & Senate he would have gotten his way. But his many second term scandals & foreign policy incompetence cost the Democrats dearly in the 2014 elections, and now they have NO POWER in the legislative branch.

The ACA is not coming apart at all. In fact it's doing pretty well and the clearest sign is how the Republicans are very clear to call it the ACA these days because the last thing they want is years from now people calling it Obamacare.

The ACA is doing "pretty well" in the same way that the Titanic was doing "pretty well" before it ran into that iceberg.

Actually, the ACA was screwed up from the very start, with that disastrous web-site roll-out. And then there's Jonathan Gruber, whom Nancy Pelosi & Barack Obama both extolled until everybody heard what he had to say, and then neither of them ever heard of him

ObamaCare is either going to be negated by a future U.S. Supreme Court ruling or repealed once the G.O.P. takes over the White House in 2016. ObamaCare LOSES ELECTIONS for Democrats!

That's a fair comparisan I guess.

The website was fucked up, nobody denies that, but Obamacare is not going to be negated nor repealed. The Republicans would never do that.

Open enrollment has gone off without a hitch this year. How do we know it's been successful? Vettebigot hasn't had a single thing to complain about it.THAT's how you know it's working.

The used to call Ronald Reagan "The Teflon Man.' because nothing seemed to stick to him, personally. Same with Obama. His actual policies are unpopular, but no one wants to say the don't like the guy imposing them against public sentiment.

The mistake Democrats have made for the last 6 years is to assume that the coating shields them as well and it does not. The look at his election and re-election and are quite sure there is some imprimatur of policy direction approval when it is simply a cult of personality.

This is why Democrats are farther out of power than they have been in at least 50-60 years. And this is starting from a position of being solidly in power after a ver unpopular president.

The Democrats are getting ready for 2016 by finally adopting the "Obama must be reigned in" strategy of the Republican. That is what the Elizabeth Warren push back was about. No internal poll tells them that anyone should run as the 3rd Obama term.

Cuba gave up nothing to President Obama in exchange for his recognition of their oppressive dictatorship.

Why should they?

That island nation has nothing America needs.

Apparently not, since we've gotten by without Cuba trade for this long. So what? Some American businesses think they can make money there -- they must have some well-founded notion that there are Cuban goods worth buying.

But, that pushback comes from Obama's left. Which seems counterintuitive to your argument.
