This BB, like the rest of the site, sort of grew organically. we've never tried to attract a certain type of person, so whoever showed up became part of what the site is all about. The only thing the people here have in common is an interest in sex - and even that term means something different to each of us. If you read a while, you'll see the more "serious" posters complaining about the "flirts", and the "flirts" complaining about the "serious" folks. That's been happening since the day the BB was launched. But pay it no mind...there's room on this forum for everyone, from the one-liner wise-cracker to the essay poster, from the serial flirt to the political junkie.

I'm a fan of chaos and contrasts. I like the sparks that fly when the Lefties and Righties clash, when the "out for fun" folks clash with the "serious" people. If I had my way, I'd have communists on the board arguing with hardcore Libertarians, and feminists yakking it up with Southern Baptists. I think people are at their best when they're being challenged. Homogeneity, IMHO, is Boring.

As in real life, no matter who you are or what you say, there will be someone on this board who will not quite "get" you. But there will also be someone who appreciates your posts and digs your energy. Just be yourself, and post about what you want to post about. It's your board as much as it's everyone else's.

Frankly, I think it's a little too rigid to moderate a thread to keep it on the tract of an "original" intent ... but rather, let conversation flow wherever it goes in association.

There have been many "serious" threads on the GB (long before daughter's) often hotly debated. But, threads are not panel discussions, limited to protocol of debate. Such is the beauty of conversation on the GB ... one subject matter often extends into "another thought".

I love the diversity here. And the seriousness of daughter's threads gives a wonderful contrast to the silly ones. Gotta have 'em both. I like to come here for the adult conversation sometimes, the deep subjects that i can't necessarily delve into with my 4 and 6 year old about Sponge bob square pants. Her threads give me that, thank goodness. I would just think that if something is too serious and your not in the mood for that, then don't post to it. Well, thats what I do anyhow.

I wasn't attempting to criticize your posts...they are interesting...but, as Cherry said...the "controlling" part irritated me. BUT that is ME!

I don't believe I ever asked you to stop...I still lurk and read them, and maybe one day I WILL answer another one.

I was just curious as to why you were so intense (is that a better word than serious?).

Does anyone else see the irony in this thread?

A lil while ago, it was everyone asking Rick to be more serious, to please stop posting inane bullshit, and to just limit his # of posts per day, period. I think it was even recommended that he join in on some of the politics threads and give the flirting a rest.

Then there were threads about flirting in general, and how the 'come-ons' made certain lit members uncomfortable, and everyone should be a little more discreet.

Now, here's daughter, and she's serious, she's nice, she's joined in the flow fairly well, she has a stunning av, and now she's being encouraged to be less serious, to please flirt, joke, etc.

So, which is it?

I do not believe anywhere in that post, did I ask her to change/stop/edit ANY of her threads/subjects/posts.

Come on people, Cath! says what she wants to say. Even if it may not sound right to you, doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Let's ALL try to remember this is an internet forum, if you don't like what someone says, you do have the right to disagree, but sometimes wtih some people, it goes a bit too far.

I'll admit, that I've had the same feelings as she did about whether this was all some research thing, because of the seriousness of most of the posts. Yes we do have soem here who consider themselves intelectuals, but they are few and far between, at least the ones who let it be known as such. Thus, it kind of takes some of us perhaps off guard, because this isn't always the place known for seriousness.

I just know that a pointed thread aimed at a specific person would seem inflammatory and make another person defensive.
