daughter??

I'm not trying to start anything here. I stated an opinion. In my opinion, it was ironic, not what Cath said (i didn't mention her name) but the tone of the thread.

As Lobito said, we all have the right to our opinions.

I don't usually have anything to say in her threads because I deal with women and their reproductive problems all day and I'm too past it to share.

Marxist... You are a Gynecologist perhaps?? ;)

You should apologize. Stupid thread, stupid thread author. Contrition is called for.

Does anyone else see the irony in this thread?

A lil while ago, it was everyone asking Rick to be more serious, to please stop posting inane bullshit, and to just limit his # of posts per day, period. I think it was even recommended that he join in on some of the politics threads and give the flirting a rest.

Then there were threads about flirting in general, and how the 'come-ons' made certain lit members uncomfortable, and everyone should be a little more discreet.

Now, here's daughter, and she's serious, she's nice, she's joined in the flow fairly well, she has a stunning av, and now she's being encouraged to be less serious, to please flirt, joke, etc.

So, which is it?

Yep. Exactly. And tomorrow there will be complaints about flirting, and the next day complaints about seriousness.

And so it goes...

Lavender,

When you give head, do you wear glasses or contacts? Does your choice of eyewear change when you are the recipient of oral sex? :p

(Hi, Siren.)

Smartass!

Since I don't ever wear glasses or contacts, that doesn't change when I give head. Well, let me modify that. If REQUESTED to wear glasses during roleplay, I most certainly will. :p

Did you just now figure that out, my dear Lavender? :)

Hmm...have I ever mentioned that I have a fantasy about a clean-cut, spectacles-wearing librarian who is--shall I say--somewhat less prim and proper after work? :p

I didn't read this whole thread. I read the first post and had to respond.

I can't believe this thread was created. I can't believe someone is CRITICIZING someone on this board for having a fucking brain.

Daughter, I love your posts! We need more like you to make us actually think. Any Tom, Dick or Harry can come on this board and post "Wanna fuck?".."Glasses or contacts?"..."Do you prefer giving or receiving oral sex?" Yes, these posts are vapid. Yes, the answers require absolutely not one brain cell. Yes, these kind of posts do not speak for an individual, at least not highly.

Daughter has come onto this board and actually contributed not only to our mental stimulation about certain topics, she has challenged us to reply. The answers to her questions make us dive into our true beliefs. The answers to these questions tell us much more about the posters that answer than the "Boxers or briefs" questions that we see over and over again on a daily basis.

Daughter, hang in there. Continue posting JUST as you are. I, for one, am enjoying the hell out of having your type of posts here.

I honestly don't think cath meant it that way. Daughter had posted 2 threads on teenage sexuality. Yes, they were great threads. I think the way Daughter posts might be construed as research. She asks very thoughtful questions and expects thoughtful responses. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Its a wonderful addition to the board. I think cath may just have been misunderstood.

no, no,no este...

never mind...

Here, people...oh righteouseversoperfect ones that you are...

Let me get down on my knees and show contrition...god forbid that I - lowly drivel poster that I am - express an opinion and ask a couple of questions...

I will now shuffle off into the sunset like the properly chastised poster that I am...

last one out of the thread...please turn off the lights.

While the lights are on, I thought the objection was about the style, not the content. I've not seen anybody suggest daughter's posts are without merit, I think the issues raised were about:

* the unusual control she attempts to exert. It's not uncommon for somebody to say "Don't hijack my thread" (doesn't always work, of course) but it's rare to be so rigorously specific about what is acceptable.

* the (consistently?) probing in an interview-like manner rather than the more common modes of dialog in most topical threads.

Gee, I didn't realize my glasses or contacts thread was such a pain....

We all come here for different reasons. So the 'fluff' and the 'serious' have their merit.

Personally - it all depends on the day and my mood. Since I mainly enjoy Lit as a means of escape from the endless conflicts of life, I guess I would be one of those 'one-brain celled fluff' posters. Believe it or not, I am an intelligent girl!;) I just don't enjoy engaging in debate when I'm relaxing. It's just not my idea of an escape, but for some it is.

So, my point shorter stated: Who cares? If you don't like it - go to another thread. If you don't see anything you like - start a new thread.

If you have a personal question or problem for/with someone, why not address it in private?

It seems to me that personally directed public adventures like this one have been the cause of many recent problems, yes? And even a few name changes? I don't know Cath, and I have no personal beef with her, so this isn't about that kind of B.S.--I'm not out to start a war with our resident flirt-princess and troll collector. I'm just wondering what this thread was supposed to accomplish that couldn't have been better addressed in private.

daughter...wade through it. You'll come out the other side, smelling like lilacs. Stay strong, be fierce, post whatever you damn well please. I'm not alone in *liking* that you're direct, clear about what you want, and not averse to using your brain. It's what makes you interesting, IMO. So, take that for what it's worth, I guess.

And, did you read what I posted on this thread already back in the beginning. It about says it all, as far as I am concerned!

I agree with you CK:)

It wasn't; that's the point. Everyone comes here for something different. There's not a person on this board that can honestly say they enjoy every single thread - and that's fine. Everything serves a purpose for someone. The only posts I feel are without value are spam and mean trolls.

Does that mean we should all "shut up" about threads we dislike? Not necessarily. I think there's little to be gained by walking into a political discussion and venting about how much you hate political discussions. If you have a problem with another poster's style, I think this can be discussed in a such a way that's constructive. Asking yourself, "Why does this person's flirting/seriousness/haircut bother me?" is a good start - because when it comes down to it, our problems with other people's styles or personalities are just that - our problems.

If you feel the board lacks the type of discussion you're looking for, then start threads that you want to see. Don't sit on your butt and wait for someone else to entertain you. Be proactive. This is your board as much as it's anyone elses.
