~Deacon's Fucked up Cancer Thread~

Just a quick update.

I learned about the "Power Port" which will be put under the skin, high on my chest, on the right side. Now we just wait for approval from my cardiologist. Could happen within the next seven or eight days, or so they hope.

What is its function?

I had that inserted for my treatment's...its like a pin cushion they surgically insert under your skin. A line is hooked up to a main arterie. Its easier for nurses to start chemo treatments. Ask for numbing cream you can rub on about 1/2 hr before you get jabbed... it helps

Good luck...you got this! 🤗

I'm so sorry DV. All I can offer is my thoughts. I wish there was more I could say or do. But please know I am thinking of you and offering what little energy I currently have, to help you to continue to fight.

So . . . .

I saw my cancer surgeon today, and the tumor hasn't shrank enough for him to feel comfortable doing surgery. I now have a tumor in my right lung that they say came from my colon tumor. I'm going on IV chemo very soon, and will be on it for five months.

Fuck it, I hate shaving my head anyway, lol.

This will finish off my kidneys so dialysis is right around the corner. Who knows, maybe this is a good thing. I'll lose weight, which is required for a transplant, and I have five siblings that might be a match.

I know chemo is rough, but I'm not ready to lose a fight yet :D

Anyway, keep me in your thoughts or prayers :)
Sorry to hear this news. Hope the chemo can take care of the tumors and a sibling can provide for your transplant.

You know I love you. But don't tell anyone. It's our secret.

Oh. Shit. Not anymore!!! Lol.

I don’t know much about chemo but I would recommend kidneyschool.org for info on failure, types of dialysis to choose from, and what to expect on your kidney journey and davita.com for kidney friendly/renal diet recipes. This will help with weight loss and controlling fluid retention too. Best of luck and I’ll be following.

You are soooo dear to my heart, and I love you too!

(I don't care who knows, LOL)

To the others, I think you're awesome just for being interested and giving a shit :D

Its an emotional roller coaster for sure, but I'll do my best to keep everyone up to speed as I go along. I appreciate all the support, it means the world to me, so thank you one and all.

Hi Deacon, I had a Picc line which went into my arm above the elbow, i had four cycles of chemo following removal of a colon tumour. Its hard to say how the chemo will affect you because everyone is different. After the treatment there was no way i could drive, it made walking for me a bit wobbly, but next day was ok. Chemo was not fun but having come out the other side it for me was ok. now its been a month since i finished and every day is better.

After your first cycle make sure any drinks you have are tepid, cold drinks will close your throat up. Hang in there Deacon, along with everyone else your in my thoughts.

Good morning Deacon. I just wanted you to know you are on my heart and mind this morning. Big hugs and prayers for you. 😘

Just an update,

Tuesday I go in for x-rays and blood work, as well as preregistering at the hospital. (Mercy Southwest in Bakersfield) Then this coming Friday I have the porta cath surgery.

The chemo drug the'll be giving me is Oxaliplatin. Its one of the most toxic of the chemo drugs. My kidneys will be watched closely, but we're hoping they'll hang tight.. If not, I'll get a chest catheter on the left side and do emergency dialysis.

All in a day's work I guess, LOL :D

I guess now's where the fun begins. I'll do my best to laugh right through it all :)

Good luck with everything. I hope it all goes well and you don't need emergency dialysis.

Deacon, get yourself some hand cream containing urea, it’s good for your skin when your on oxaliplatin, also if your going to be in the sun you want factor 50

Thanks for the suggestions Micky, I'll keep that in mind :)

I’m just getting home not too long ago from a family function.

I read this and wow...I’m going through this again, but with a friend. Last time it was one of my sisters. You know you have real estate in my heart. All special ones do. Please know you will be in the forefront of my thoughts and will be contained in my prayers. Never surrender to this. Please look to your special thread and see the support system you have waiting for you. Know that you are sincerely loved and appreciated❤️

I don't have answers and I don't have anything to say that makes it better. But I do admire your courage to share this path with others...including strangers.

So tomorrow morning at 5:30am I go in for my porta cath placement surgery. I should be home by 10:00am, and I'll let everyone know I'm still alive and kickin :D
