Dear Parenting litsters,

This is an honest question... how have you explained death to a young child?

I tried my best when our dog was put to sleep last year, but he was 2 and things didn't quite connect together in his mind. He's 3 now and his grandmother's dog was put to sleep over the weekend... the task of explaining has been left to me.

I went though similar a few days ago. When my mum passed away, my niece accepted “her body stopped working and her soul went to heaven”, but a few days ago, she asked “if space is never ending, where is heaven?” We were all stumped. The best I could come up with at the time was that heaven comes before space, which is why we release balloons for her, and how she watches over us.

It’s not an easy thing to try to explain at all
