Dear Baby Girl,
I know you're young, just out of babyhood and becoming quite the little girl. I know you don't understand now, but hopefully in time you will.
I love you. I love you very much. I always will. I'm your mother after all. But lately, you have been an absolute terror and horror show. You are headstrong, stubborn, ill-behaved, and openly defiant. You are the child people look at and wonder where the parents are going wrong. I'm trying SO HARD to be the best mother I can be and provide you with love and discipline in equal measure. Every moment of my life is devoted to you and your care. And every moment of my life as of late has been filled with moments where I question my ability to be your parent. You make even the simple act of changing your diaper into an ordeal with your screaming, kicking, biting, and pushing. Every. Single. Time. Your grandfather has expressed his opinion that you are a monster and he has no desire to spend time in your company because all you do is scream, cry, and throw tantrums. You are extremely unpleasant to be around most of the time. You not only act up in public, to the point that my social circle has shrunk down to barely anyone because they don't want to put up with your behavior....you also act up at home in equal measure. I've heard of the Terrible Twos but even your pediatrician said your behavior is far beyond that. It is exhausting and disheartening. Mommy cries an awful lot these days.
To have you favor your father and express all your love to him and ignore me entirely is hurtful beyond words. I understand that little girls adore their Daddies and follow them around like little puppy dogs. And you have a good Daddy, which you should be really grateful for. He truly adores you. But to tell me at your young age that you don't love me and don't want to hug me or kiss me, then run across the room to your father to lavish him with hugs, kisses, and "I love yous" tears me apart inside.
I know that you don't understand this, but I put my health and life on the line to carry you to term. I sacrificed everything I had and developed complications that will follow me all my life. I would literally have died for you, gladly. Still would. I know it's too much to expect any expression of thanks or gratitude from you until you're at least 30. Maybe longer. But it would be nice to be shown some love or respect or kindness or any shred of tenderness from my little girl. At this point, your father and I are trying to figure out what our lives are going to look like after our divorce and tonight he brought up possibly having you go live with him. I don't want to lose you, I want you to always be with me, but if this behavior continues, it may be the way things end up. And that will completely break my heart. Shatter it, in fact. The moment you were born, my heart existed outside of my body for the first time and will for all time.
So if you can do just one thing for Mommy....just one little thing. Please give Mommy a break every once in a while....that would be SUPER. Put that cutesy little smile on your face, sit on your Mickey Mouse chair, and watch Spookley for 45 minutes happily while Mommy makes dinner. That could make my whole day
Thanks sweetie! Mommy loves you!!
Love Always,
Your Emotionally and Physically Tapped Mother
