Dearly Beloved...

Cathy

Hmm, a pilot. Very interesting. Cathy decided that one drink couldn't hurt, and Will was nowhere to be found. She scanned the crowd for him again, and decided that he must be gone off with the rest of the grooms-men. She hooked her arm around Jack's waist and walked toward the bar.

The bartender looked at her inquiringly. "I'll have a mimosa," she told him. Cathy wasn't a big drinker and figured that one drink should help her relax a little. She looked at Jack, "And what will you be having?"

He placed his order and they made their way to an empty table. She sat down across from him, smoothing her skirts and wishing she were wearing her usual attire of jeans and a t-shirt. She felt very out of place with this fluffy dress on.

"So, Jack, tell me what it's like to be a fly boy," Cathy said with an engaging smile...

"Not as exciting as you might think. But I enjoy it. It was my dream ever since I was a kid. I got lucky and my dream came true"

He stirred his drink.
"Now you tell me what it's like to be a beautiful woman dying to change into something more comfortable."

She looked at him with surprise.

"I don't know where your staying but my place has a great pool. After dark when the kids are gone it's pretty nice. Any chance you could come over after the reception?"

"I look that uncomfortable?" she asked with a sigh. "I thought I would at least make it to the end of the night with this dress on, but to tell the truth, I'd kill for a pair of jeans, a nice light shirt and a pair of sneakers."

"As for your offer, I'll have to say no. I'm here with my boyfriend, Will, and I don't think he'd appreciate my leaving with another man." This was said with a tight little smile, as she scanned the room again, looking for him. Damnit, where was he? And why was she so worried? Did she honestly think that she might do something stupid and go back to this guy's hotel with him?

God, what a mess...

Okay, strike one, he thought.

"I think you'd look pretty good in just about anything Cathy." Or nothing.

Jack sipped his gin and tonic.

New tack...
"Well what does your boyfriend look like maybe I can help you find him."
Damn Jackie you just went way out on a limb and gave her a saw!

"I guess I have liked you for awhile too." I glance about nervously. "But what are we going to do about it?"

OOC: Sorry I have been really busy!

Cathy

She smiled at Jack, "Will is 5'11", trim, sandy blond hair and has a beard." She wondered why he wanted to help her find Will, maybe he was just being helpful.

She watched him scan the room, his eyes darting from one face to the next. Cathy took the time that he was looking away to study his face. Handsome, sort of devilish looking. Totally not her type. But those hands...long fingers, nice shape, they looked like they belonged to a surgeon or an artist. She flushed when he caught her looking at him. She took a sip of her drink, looking away, pretending to scan the room for Will; but Will was the last thing on her mind at the moment.

He looked steadily at her.
"You know I havn't seen anyone at this reception that remotely resembles Will.
No one."

He thought for a moment.
"But maybe we could look around outside. I saw some people in the garden. Could be he's there."

Maybe there's even a garden!

"What d'you say?...Getting kind of warm in here anyway.

She thought about it for a moment. He's right you know, she thought to herself, Will disappeared right after we got here. Figuring that she had nothing to lose, she said, "Yes, let's go and take a look around outside. I could use the fresh air anyhow."

Cathy stood, picking up her nearly empty glass and smiled. "And, I think I'll make a short detour to the bar and get a refill while we're at it." She met his gaze across the table and suddenly grinned. "Might as well make the best of a free bar."

She turned and walked toward the bar, feeling his eyes on her back.

Her body moved within that dress like an animal dying to be free...
Jack you aught to be a damned poet...

He stood up and grabbed one of the guests.
"Say friend is there a nice garden out there?"
He nodded towards the door.

"Yep sure is. A real pretty one got a pond, ducks, flowers, big ol' trees and comfortable benches...It's a fine pace."

Great...I'm in luck!

"It's only about five miles away too. First you go down Fletcher then takae a left."

"No no no...I mean right outside. Like out the door."

The man laughed.

"Fraid the only thing you'll find out there is the back of the TrailWays Bus Station."

She stood at the bar, lightly drumming her nails on its surface, waiting for the bartender to finish with his other customers. He finally came over and she asked for another mimosa. As he was making it, she took the opportunity to scan the room once again, looking for Will. She couldn't find his familiar form, and pursed her lips with disgust. If he wanted to see her, he knew how to find her.

Cathy took her drink, turned around and hooked her arm through Jack's. "So, how about that breath of fresh air?"

They walked out the door in time to catch the exhaust of the 8:05 to Milwaukee and watch the arrival of the non stop from Chicago.

"Uhhh...there is a garden Cathy, but it's a pretty hefty walk from here."

Eventually they found a strip of grass on the other side of the building and although there were no benches there was a decent enough tree to lean on and it was blessedly cool.

"Is Will your steady or would you be open to a social invitation. I still have two days to kill and I'd like to spend some of that time with you."

"This is fine. I didn't really need a garden, just some fresh air," Cathy replied. "And Will and I have been together for four years." Although if he ditches me at this wedding, it won't be for another four days, she thought. She leaned against the trunk of the big oak tree, watching the sunlight making patterns on the ground. She opened her mouth to add more, to tell Jack that she and Will were in a committed relationship, when she realized that there was a huge lump in her throat and the sting of tears in her eyes. Instead of speaking, she swallowed hard and kept looking at the ground, playing with the paper umbrella that was in her glass.

Cathy looked up and across the strip of grass, at the building across the street, avoiding Jack's eyes. She took a shuddery breath, then another, feeling a little more composed now. Taking another sip of her drink, she finally met his gaze across the top of her glass. "Do you have anyone special in your life?" Might as well change the subject, and take the focus off of herself.

Rick

"What are we going to do about it? I have ideas, but I'd rather save those for later," I grinned, hoping to make the situation a little lighter.
"I mean, are we going to cozy up right now and do a replay of Brad and Jen? I think not." I kissed her hand again.

Jack looked up at the first stars of the evening glittering inthe purpling sky. Mars was out again tonight. Very bright.

"Look over there above the Church. That's Mars, have you been watching it?"
Before she could reply he said,

"No...not right now. I was married down in Pensacola...Officer and Gentleman kind of thing...good match. Admirals daughter but it didn't last. I'm on duty most of the time so it's hard to put down roots."

He took a step closer and put his arm around her waist.
"Now if you look to the left of Mars," he pointed,
" that's Antares, the red one."

Cathy slid an arm around Jack's back and leaned into him. She looked up at the night sky, trying to see Antares. She laughed, "I knew I should have worn my glasses, because I can't see a thing." They stood that way for a long time, the two of them just looking up at the sky, watching it darken and the stars coming out.

She mused on his previous marriage. Wondering what his ex-wife looked like, what she had done. She didn't ask him anything though. He sounded like it was a piece of another life, so she left it alone.

Shivering a little, Cathy asked, "It's getting rather cool out here, what do you say we go back inside?"

It was getting cold but Jack had little desire to return to a reception where he knew no one except Cathy. If he did so It would be only for the sake of her company. It was time to lay the cards on the table.
He took her arm and walked back towards the noise and warmth of the reception.

"Cathy I don't know how long this shindig will go on. I know you came here with Will but he seems to have gotten lost. What are the chances of you leaving with me. Maybe we can go tao a show or you can show me the local sites or something."

Cathy mulled it over as they walked. Did she really want to leave with this guy? Her brow furrowed a little, Yes, I do want to leave with this guy, she thought. "Let's go then. I'll take you to a small dinner theater not far from here. The food is good, the drinks are better, and the entertainment can't be beat." She smiled at him, enjoying watching the surprised expression on his face. "I guess you didn't really expect me to say yes, huh?"

"Let's go and say our good-byes to the bride and groom, and then we can take off." Cathy hooked her arm through his and started toward the building again.

He was almost as happy to get out of that place as the day he got his wings at Pensacola.
This girl was stunning and even if it never got past a handshake she was exciting and fun to be with.
The big Herz rental car pulled out into the traffic and he realized he had no idea where he was going.
"Cathy I need some help here. Point me the right way!"

She laughed, "Maybe I should have driven? In any case, you're driving, so, take a left up here then go straight til you hit the lights. Take another left, cruise for about five miles and we're there. It's right on the main street, so you can't miss it."

Cathy leaned back into the bucket seat and looked out of her window, watching the lights flashing by. She was excited and nervous and had butterflies in her stomach. You really are going out with this guy, aren't you? She thought. Will was nowhere to be found, so you took off with this handsome, dashing man, and you don't feel bad about it.

Cathy marvelled, she didn't feel bad about it either. She realized she could care less where Will was, or what he was doing. And she had felt like that for quite some time now. If anything, this wedding was telling her that she was in an unhappy relationship and Jack was the perfect foil to it. Might as well enjoy the company of this handsome man while you have it, she told herself.

She smiled, and turned a little in her seat to look at his profile. Such a nice looking man. She didn't understand why he was interested in her, he could have had any pick of the ladies at the reception. But, she wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth (horse? was he...she blushed and banished the thought) so she might as well enjoy his company while she could.

On that note, she leaned back into her seat and gave directions. Maybe this would turn out okay after all...

The dinner theater was called the Drama Bar and the play was
"The Women of Sparta (Tennessee)" It was a modern take off on Lysistrata full of fun and ribald humor. Jack enjoyed it and the Prime Rib and the fine company across from him. They had ended up sitting next to each other to see the play better and by the time the actors had taken their bows his arm was around her shoulders and their thighs were side by side.

"Where to next Boss?" he asked.
Her perfume was intoxicating and so was the bottle of House Burgandy they'd polished off with dinner.

OOC....I do it all the time.

She could feel the hard muscle of his thigh next to hers, his arm around her shoulders, the empty bottle of wine. This evening kept getting better and better.

"Was there anything you wanted to see while in town? Any special places you'd like to visit? I'm a native and have seen most everything there is to offer around here, but I'd go again, just to see your reaction to it all..." she trailed off, realizing that she was babbling. His lips curved into a smile and she felt the air between them grow thick with sexual tension. Cathy's cheeks flushed, and she smiled back.

"I'm open to any suggestions," she said, knowing that it could be interpreted in many ways.

"Actually Cathy I'd like to get outside for a little while. We've been shut up all day and it's a beautiful night. Maybe we could take a drive, get some fresh air."

His face suddenly lit up,
"Say there's a meteor shower tonight! The Perseid, It would be a great thing to see if we can get away from the city lights."
His face was close to hers and he could smell her perfume, see the fine texture of her hair.

"I forgot to thank you for the play. It's been a long time since I've seen one."
Then he leaned forward and kissed her softly on the lips.

Cathy kissed him back, suprising herself and him, with the intensity of it. The look on his face when she broke away made her grin. "A meteor shower sounds absolutely perfect right about now," she said. "There's a lake about ten miles out. No houses around, no ambient light. That ought to be perfect for watching a meteor shower."

"And, to tell the truth, I only ever came here once. But it was the first place to pop into my mind for some reason. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself."

She grinned a little foolishly, the wine was getting to her, making her head buzz. "Let's go find that lake, shall we?" Cathy laced her fingers through his, and started to lead him away from the table.

The trip to the lake was a delight. They laughed a lot together and told each other a bit about themselves. Jack was a farm boy from Kansas who'd always dreamed of being a flyer, he'd been married once briefly and was now facing a deciscion as to leaving the service for a commercial career or staying in for another four years. It seemed so very easy to talk to Cathy, like he'd known her for years. She leaned against him on the way and didn't seem to mind at all his hand stroking her knee and thigh as they talked.
When they got to the star filled lake HE managed to stumble as they walked through the trees to it's edge and she caught him.
They laughed at his clumsiness and then he took her in his arms and kissed her, really kissed her.
Tasting her lips and tongue and thinking they had the flavor of wild honey...
