Deathlance of the Rising Sun

STURM

Sturm rolled out of his bunk on the great ship. He and the others were on thier way to the High Clerist Tower to guard it. Getting dressed he snatched up his sword and went up on deck to practice....

TANIS

Tanis finally opened his eye's as the light from out side streamed down on him. Getting up, he proceded to get dressed and look around the room at a few suttle changes he had made that woulkd tell him if any one had come in. No one had. Smilling to himself, he grabbed up his gear and started walking downstairs....

Caramon

Caramon startled himself awake from his dream, actually mostly a nightmare. His hands ached from ringing the neck of his advesary in his dream. The look on Raistlins face as his neck was throttled was priceless. His eyes bulged out as his face turned purple. His tongue exited his lips, looking for some life saving air. Rubbing his eyes, Caramon hoped that it would not come to the extents of his dream. He looked around the room, washing his face in the basin of water. He grabbed up his gear and walked down to the common room. Seeing Rand motioning him over, Caramon sat down at his table. The serving wench was bringing the food just as Caramon sat down. His mouth watered as he saw all the food layed out. He dug in immediately, shoveling food in his mouth.

STURM

Sturm stood on the bow of the ship, practicing his swordsmanship. Sweat rolled down his chest and down his face. A squire walked around the corner just as Sturm stopped to take a breather. "Sir Sturm?" " Just Sturm. How can I be of service?" "The Lord Knight wishes to speak with you." Nodding, Sturm grabbed his shirt, throwing it on as he rushed to the Captains house.....

TANIS

Tanis walked down the stair's, looking around the commons room when he reached the landing. Standing there he smiled. There was good old Caramon shoveling food into his face. And there across from him sat Rand. Tanis didnt really trust this Rand person, but that really wasnt all that big a surprise seeing as how Tanis didnt trust many mages. Walking over to the table, he slid into a seat near the farthest part of the table. "Good morning Caramon, Rand." Takeing a small bite of a peice of bacon he looked at the two other men. "Any plans for today other then finding Raistlin?".....

Rand

Rand looks over at Tanis. " It has been many years since I visited the Tower of High Sorcery. I would be interested in taking another look. Yes, I know that I will not be able to get very close, but maybe a closer look will stir my brain to think of what next to do. Are you two up for it? Obviously we have to wait for the sleep addled Dwarf to make it down to so he can decide too."

Tanis shivered slightly at the mention of the cursed tower. Few would be able to make it to that tower and non tht where not invited. Looking up, hopeing neither of the two other men had noticed him he nodded. "Agreed." Looking down he goes back to eating his food......

Caramon

Between mouthfuls of food, Caramon joins the conversation. "Where is that darned dwarf anyway? I bet he had some dwarven spirts back in his room and got him self good and drunk. He never wants to share with the rest of us. I agree with going and checking out the tower. "

STURM

Sturm stood in the Lord Knights office, wondering why he had been called. As he stood there, rigid as ever looking blankly ahead his mind spun. Why had the Lord Knight call him? Did the Lord of the Rose Knights find a transgression upon him that he was not known of? Then suddenly in walked the Lord Knight.

"Sturm Brightblade?" "Yes sir." "Sir Brightblade it appears you have a person that like's you in a very high place. You are to be reasigned to a diplomat, some fellow by the name of Tanis Half Elven. He is in Palathis as we speak. It appears you are to escort him to the High Clerist Tower. Do you understand?" Sturm staired blankly at his captain. Tanis? In Palathis? When had this happened? Coming back to reality as his captain coughed at him. " Yes sir. I understand. Is there anything else captain? " No you are dismissed." Turning, Sturm begain to head back to his room. Tanis?.......

TANIS

As Tanis finishes his food he looks up at Caramon and Rand. "Aye, it would appear so. I'll go check opn him but then I have some buisness to ataind to. You two can get aqainted." Smiling Tanis rose to leave...

Flint

Flint awoke joints aching, a large basin of heated water stood on a chair as he had requested earlier. Time was he would have waken to the sound of someone in his room, now he just slept on like lamb to the slaughter. Getting up he worked the knee trying to iron out the kinks. Making it to his feet he move to the water. Steam was still rising from the bowl. Soaking a nearby towel, he rapped it around his injuries, letting the heat soak in. After a while the knee began to respond to treatment. Finding he could walk without visible signs of weakness, Flint began to get dressed. The sun was well up when he made his appearance, Caramon and Tanis sat with the newcomer. Tanis rose up and was making his way off.
Plonking down in a chair, Flint waved over to bar indicating that he would like some breakfast.
" Where you going lad."

TANIS

Smiling at Flint he chuckeled. "I was going to see if I could get you up. After wards I have to go to meet someone at the Great Librery. But since you have already gotten up with out me having to toss a pitcher of water on you I'll be off." Nodding to Rand and Caramon he smiled, "It was a great breakfast. Please tell the waitress it was great when she come's for the dishes." Turning he grabbed up his pack and headed towards the door, thinking to himself that he was starting to sound a little to much like a diplomat instead of the good old Tanis...

STURM

Sturm stood upon the deck as thier ship came into port. It had been a long time since Sturm had been here and even longer sincew he had seen Tanis. I wonder if he still has his red beard? he thought to himself. Grabbing up his pack he walked to the plank, stopping just long enough to salute his captain then he walked down the plank. Now all he had to do to meet up with Tanis was find the Great Librery. This might be harder then Sturm had thought at first as he looked around and did'nt reconize much of anything. Asking a lady that was selling bread on the corner which way it was she gave him directions. Thinking it was somewhat his duty to pay her back for the information he bought several loafs of bread, handing them out to small children as he followed her directions....

Rand

Rand smiled over at the Dwarf. "Here eat, I order food for all of us this morning. There is plenty to go around. I was looking to go to the Tower of High Sorcery and look around for Raistlin. It looks like Tanis has other things to do, so would you like to join me and Caramon?"

Caramon

Caramon looks over at the just arrived Dwarf. " Stay away from the food on my side of the table its all mine. There is plenty near you to fill that small belly of yours . Are you going to come with us? "

" Sure I was board of this life anyway" The Dwarf helped himself to the food wolfing it down in record time. Standing he started for the door, before turning.
"well, come on, times a wasting" Add under his breath " damn layabouts, loungeing around all morning" Shaking his head he exited the buliding.

Rand

Rand looked over at Caramon , trying to hide a smile at the antics of the Dwarf. "Come my overlarge friend, let us go see what manner of trouble we can get ourselves into. "

Caramon

Caramon watches the Dwarf walk away from the table. "What, leave now, I have hardly eaten. I only got here a short time ago. There is still a whole Yarvil for me to eat yet. Damn you Flint, you are always making things difficult. " Caramon swallows the food in his mouth and pulls up the tablecloth to wipe his mouth. Letting out a prodigious belch, he waves to the serving wench and leaves the Inn.

Flint

Waiting outside Flint squinted in the sunlight, he could just make out the top of the tower over the new city. Like a black hand shooting into the air, bent on dragging down the gods themselves, Though the sun shone bright, the air around the tower still hell the dark around it like a cloak. Shivering in his boots, Flint felt the full weight of his years. Suddenly this wasn't such a good idea.
" Perhaps I'll stay here after all, You didn't finish your plate maybe they haven't cleaned it up." Turning for the door Flint was caught by the collar and dragged back out.
" Come on Flint where is your sense of adventure. Your not afraid of stone and mortar. " said Caramon
Flint paused in his fruitless struggle, rage bubbled to the surface.
" Afraid, why I'll Wager I get closer then any of you. " Shrugging of the holding hand. Flint challenged anyone to say different.

Elly stood on the side of the street staring off at the top of the tower in the distance. It seemed to call to her but at the same time a sense of dread filled her very being. She lowered her eyes and glanced around. She noticed she wasn't the only one interested in the tower. Across the street a man stood outside of the tavern with a group of people. They all seemed to be looking at the tower. Curiousity had always been her downfall and it seized hold of her now. Walking casually over to the group she smiled warmly. "Hi, I'm Ellesime but you can call me Elly. That tower sure is creepy don't you agree?" she asked innocently.

Flint

" Creepy Hah you don't know the half of that girl. If you knew what it's like up close you'll not be using words like Creepy. No one can go within twenty feet of the grove that surrounds that tower. But many a fool will try. " Flint gave Caramon meaningful look.

Caramon

Caramon looked over at the young lady. "Hello Elly, I agree it is kind of a strange place. What interest does it have for you? " Caramon looks her up and down, unconsiouslsy flexing his big muscles to draw her attention. "By the way, my name is Caramon, Caramon the Brave."

Rand

Rand looked at the new arrival. He could feel power running through her veins. He could tell this was a mage, even without touching her. This was possibly fortiutous to have met another mage, since his own magic may not be enough to defeat Raistlin if he is called on to do so. "Well met Elly, I am Rand. We are looking for a companion that spends sometime here. Have you ever seen a man with very strange eyes near this tower lately?"

Mention of the man caused her head to lift sharply. She knew of this man. She sensed great power within him and had been watching him for some time. She seemed to be drawn to him and his strength but she knew he was dangerous. Cautiously she nodded "I know of the man you speak. But truth be told I know nothing about him. What is your business with the tower?" This Rand character was a mage. She sensed his powers and became all the more curious about the group. The one with the muscles made her laugh because he was so sure of himself. Those types never had much brains only brawns. But this one did have intelligent eyes so maybe he was different. "Well if you guys need help I'm quite the skilled archer and will gladly lend my services" She didn't wish to reveal she was a mage yet and was to naive to realize that Rand already sensed it within her.

Tanis stood in the reading room of the Great Librery. He had been waiting only about 20 min. before a man in a robe with a bald head walked up to him. "Good to see you again Tanis. It has been quite some time hu?" Tanis looked at him confused. He didnt remember this man at all. But then the diplomat side kicked in. "Ahh good to see you again. How are the wife and kid's." The man looked at him and smiled. "You know Sir Tanis that I have never met you. As a matter of fact this is the first time I have ever seen you. His Lordship, Knight of the Rose Dandry has sent me orders to help you on your quest with the others." Turning the man pulled off his robe and underneath was a man in shining plate mail.

"Ahhh ok. Given me a test hu? Didnt think it was really me hu?" Chuckling slightly, Tanis looked at the man. Noticing he wasn't laughing at all Tanis stood straight back up." Is there something wrong sir knight." "Sir Tanis," "Please, just Tanis." "Ok, um Tanis, I always saw you as a great knight not some diplomatic fool." Smiling slightly, Tanis nodded." Well sometimes the greatest battles can be won with out even shedding a drop of blood. I know, newly annointed into the knight hood and either you never thought of that or the knight hood is teaching some of the wrong lessons." "Not always Tanis." Hearing a voice behind him, Tanis turned. There, standing in the doorway was a man in full platemail, light glancing off of the finely shined metal."Sturm....."............

Rand

Rand looks over at Elly, " I am not sure what need we will have for an archer in this town, but you are welcome to come with us as far as I am concerned. "

This Rand fellow was the quiet type Elly could tell. She wondered what he kept so quiet about. Sending him her warmest smile she nodded "Well I'm happy to be part of the group. Traveling alone is soooo boring!" she knew she must seem like a child to these adventurers and in many ways she was. But she was quite capable and she planned to prove that to these men as soon as the oppurtunity arose.

Caramon

Caramon looked over at Rand. " I have no problem with her being with us. If nothing else, her beauty might distract any enemies into immediate surrender." Caramon took her hand and kissed it with a courtly gesture. Come on then, lets see how close we can get to the Tower. "

Flint

Flint eyed the young elf sceptically, He'd been around elves long enough to know she was too young to have her parents permission to wonder the world. Another fool off to seek adventure in a world filled with trouble. No Sorcerer Flint, but he felt a ill wind blowing through the land. Something big was happening again, and just like all the other times, this Dwarf was right in the middle of it.
" Well, come on let's get on with this, before I find something better to do."
Marching on Flint didn't wait for the rest. Bumping his way through the crowded streets.
