Defenders of New York (Super Hero's)

She continued to shiver in his arms, not trusting herself to speak without breaking down. "Why?" she whispered, she could have meant anything by that one word. She could have meant why was she cursed with these powers? Or, why wasn't Ike like her? Or, why should she let him help her? Or even, the worst thought in her mind, why did he want to help her? Why was he so good to her? Why did he care?

Her eyes remain closed and she just lay back against the seat, pretending to sleep. She did, however, turn her head into his shoulder.....she did like him being so near to her.

How long had it been since she had been so close to another human being? How long since she had felt like she wasn't the only one on the planet? How long since someone had cared?

A slight tremor ran through her body and her fists clenched.....a slight mist would form in the room.....the water from the cooler had condensed to spread around the room....it wasn't harmful, just a manisfestation of her misery.

Lily, however, wasn't aware of it.....

Wolfsister said:
"You have not been affected?" Lily asked Ike quietly.....

"Not that I can tell." Ike shrugged. "So much for being able to save the world. Maybe mine is just taking longer to develop. Maybe Elliot can let me run the chem lab or something..."

Lily made no noise, trying not to call attention to herself, she always suffered in silence... Greg leaned over and whispered in Lily's ear. Lily whispered back and rested her head on Greg's shoulder.

Ike smiled at Melissa then stood up and got some hot water and a packet of tea. Ike sat back down and dunked the tea bag a few times then wrapped her hands around the styrofoam cup.

"Wonder when the rest will get here." She said to no one in particular. "Wonder when we will see the live Elliot and not the memorex one."

Ryan v2.4

Ryan wasn't conscious when movement began, or when it ended. In fact, Ryan had no idea about his surroundings at all. During the night, his body had changed, cells mutating, and little more than his central nervous systrem remained mostly the same.

Already organs were being replaced. Fat was being burned in as his digestive system changed into the closed energy producing system that would fuel him in the future. Organs were losing shape, shifting, as the cells shifted, forming new organs and systems as the old one were phased out. Now the body began readying itself for outside changes, absorbing the features no longer needed.

Cells around the nose and mouth were recieving new information for future cell divisions. His hair, which had undergone many changes during the night, was getting ready to be absorbed into the body as the cells were needed.

Greg looked at the mist that was moving slowly through the room and wondered what was miking it happen but turned his head slightly to look at Lily and noticed at once that she was still unhappy. He wished that he could do something to help her but he did not know what else he could do except for what he was doing. He held her close to himself and wanted to say something to her, anything that would help ease the pain that she was going through but he did not know what he could say that would do so, it was as though she had put up a wall around herself to stop him from getting inside and helping her, just when she needed it most.

He leaned his head closer to her ear and hoped that she would listen to him, "I wish that I could do something to help you, to tell you that you are not alone in this but I do not know how I can do that as I do not know what you are going through. I know what it is like to have something strange happen to you because I just had my powers come to me and I cannot control them or myself just yet, as much as I would love that to happen. In truth I wish that the powers that I have are the same as yours so that I would know exactly what you are going through but I know that they are not and I know what you are thinking, that I would not want your powers as they are a burden, they do not let you get close to anyone but I am asking you to let me get close to you so that I can help, in anyway that I can. Will you please let me in so that I can try to help?"

Nick gave Melissa's shoulder a pat and stood to get food. Melissa was amusing herself by looking around the room. Her ears were aching - they were slowly, very slowing becoming more pointed and crawling up the side of her head - but she paid it no more mind than that she could hear Greg whispering to Lily as though her were speaking normally.

She looked over at Ike. "What do you want to happen to you?" She tried to ask, the words coming out gargled, but still mostly understandable.

Alexis Durran

IC: The aircraft came to a halt and began to descend, or so I imagined not having a window near by. The aircraft halted again in a gentle stop reminiscent of an elevator.

The door swung open letting in the soft white light of florescent bulbs. The craft began to hum and the hallucination reappeared. 'The others are at the mess hall. Please head there and Elliot will join you shortly.'

I made my way to the exit, and stopped to contemplate my actions. Was playing into my delusions really a way to find help? I took a look around at the metal surroundings and the numerous aircraft. Well at this point where else can I find help? "Hey which way to the others?"

'Please fallow the lights.' I turned my attention to the now lit walls. Best be making my way then.

Lily breathed in deeply, still not trusting herself to open her eyes, let alone speak. She listened quietly to his warm, gentle voice as the storm inside her raged.

She vaguely registered the others talking and moving about. When was Elliot coming? She sighed and held up a hand to gently move her fingers across his face. Like a blind person 'seeing' another person's face, she searched his. She wasn't sure why she did this, she just seemed to be able to accept things better if she could feel them.

She frowned as she discerned his concerned expression. Only then was she able to open her eyes. They shone with the tears that she hadn't shed yet. When she looked up at him, a wondering expression came to light on her face. "You really want to help me, don't you?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper, although it still managed to crack slightly.

She looked with such a hopeless expression on her face while she awaited his answer......

Melissa looked over at Ike. "What do you want to happen to you?" She tried to ask, the words coming out gargled, but still mostly understandable.

Ike shrugged, unable to put her longing into words, "I guess if something noticible had happened, then Ryan being changed protecting me would have some meaning. He didn't want Elliot's touch." Ike shivered, "So he is a lump of metal to protect me from turning into... a normal un-superpowered person. Maybe if I had become an icky blob or jello or something, then at least there would have been a purpose."

Ike pulled the telephone sitting in the center of the table closer. She started looking for intercome or pagere buttons, something that whould help connect them to others in the building who could fill them in on what Elliot had in store for them.

She turned on the speaker/microphone function, the phone beebed, "Hello?" Ike said into the phone mic, "Anyone else here? It's not a good idea to keep your new superteam waiting. .."

He looked at Lily in shock and could not believe what she had just asked of him. Was it because she did not trust him or herself because if that was the case then he truly did not know what to say. He wanted to tell her that he would help her but there was nothing that he could say to her if she did not trust him.

"Yes, I want to help you but I do not know how I can do that. I know that your powers are erratic and you do have trouble controlling them which makes your life unbearable at times and you feel that you have to shut yourself away so that you will be safe. I know that I do not have your powers and do not know what it is like to be in your position which I am truly sorry for but I do want to help you if I can."

Alex

IC: I made my way down the hall at a slow pace, fallowing the lights to where I hoped Elliot would be.

"Boy oh boy, I've always daydreamed but this is a very interesting one." I looked around at the stone and metal building, the cheap synthetic tiles on the floor. "A few lockers and an intercom and it'd be like school."

'Hello?' I looked around for the speakers, only not to find them. 'Anyone else here? It's not a good idea to keep your new super team waiting.' "I wonder if this counts as a voice in my head?" I continued walking thinking briefly about the contracts Elliot had us sign. "You know, I bet there was something there that night, and Elliot was under it's influence as well." I smiled to myself, I had failed to convince myself that there was a reasonable explanation.

Lily stared at him for a long time. Just staring. He would see such sweet confusion on her face as she tried to work out if what he said was really true. No-one had ever told her that they had wanted to help her. Nobody had ever stuck with her for so long. Except for Tinky.

She frowned up at him, and a single silent tear ran down her cheek. She didn't even realise it, she wouldn't notice it. She was still in her own tortured world and trying very hard to ignore the light that Greg was shining for her. She didn't want to get hurt, she never wanted to get hurt anymore than what she already had been. But, deep down, somewhere within her soul she realised that Greg was telling the truth, that he truly cared.

She sniffed, giving him a shaky smile. "Please, just hold me for now. Until Elliot comes and tells us what is going on. Please?" she almost pleaded, giving her entire being with one word. Please don't let me go, please don't throw me away.... she silently prayed....

The mist in the room would slowly dissapate and it would turn back to normal. She was calm, for now at least. What she felt next would hinge on Greg's response to her request....

Melissa's ears perked and she flinched, whimpering slightly. Her ears sported a reasonable point now, despite the short amount of time that had gone by, and new muscles were developing to allow some control of their direction, but they were tender and new and pulled the old muscles painfully. She rubbed her ear a moment, then tilted her head towards the sound, careful of her ears.

"Coming." she said, missing out on the noun. She stood, alert, and stared at the wall, towards the sound.

Veronica had quickly left the reunion when nobody was looking. She was certain that at least a few of them would take Elliot up on his offer and for very different motivations. She very much doubted Ryan would be amongst them, besides he was enough of a dick as a normal person, the last thing the world needed was for him to be spouting off with his nonconformist "gods" while flying around or somesuch.

The next day she went over her latest sack of mail with the help of one of her cousins, a lawyer, in case something of real importance came up. They divided the mail into various catagories: evangelical, death threats, marrige proposals, money, pleas for help, and of course a normal amount of junk mail.

They were working out a system. The death threats always got sent to the authorities. The junk mail, evangelical letters, and marrige proposals were always thrown away. The only two that were an issue were the pleas and the money. By this point in time she had recieved somewhere around 50,000 dollars in cash and even more by check but she had never spent a cent of it. She wasn't sure if it was proper to spend it and so she and her cousin were going through a lengthy process of researching charities. The requests for aid or "miracles" were even harder to deal with. Roni wrestled with each one, because she believed that just because she could save a life didn't mean that God wanted her to. In general she decided to not help people who's injuries or illnesses were caused through their own behavior and lifestyle people, who had smoked, drank, fucked, or otherwise brought themselves to their deathbeds. She felt that children, on the other hand deserved her help. She and her lawyer cousin considered the notion of using the money that was sent to her to form a trust that she could use to travel around the country, or world, to help these people.

She didn't get any calls from Elliot, or any of the others that afternoon, for which she was grateful.

Greg looked at Lily and saw the expression that was on her face, wishing that he could do something to take away the pain he could see there. She was asking him to hold her and not let go so that she would feel safe and feel as if she did not have to live her life alone. As he moved to wrap his arms around her and hold her close he wished that he could do something more for her.

It was then that he felt the familiar sensation flowing over him and his first thought was Not now, do not do this to me now!

He slowly raised one arm and saw what he expected but did not want to see, his shirt sleeve ending at nothing. He wanted nothing more than to scream out at that point but he knew that he could not as it would disturb Lily and the last thing that he needed was for her to burst into flames again, startling herself and everyone else in the room. He looked at Lily to see that she was at peace then raised his hand and wished that he could feel the same.

He wanted to stay here so that he could help Lily and yet he hoped that he would not go through the other side of his power and slide through the floor to end up only god knew where. He closed his eyes and concentrated on bringing himself back, hoping that he would feel as though something was coming over him which meant that it was working but when he felt nothing he let out a sigh he hoped was quiet enough for Lily to miss it.

Lily clung to him, the tears once again flowing, but this time she knew of it and did not try to hide it. She turned fully into his chest and snuggled against him, knowing that he would not object. She began to feel as though she was really someone that could be, no, would be helped. She smiled shakily through her tears and sniffled slightly.

She felt him tense and frowned, maybe he didn't want her that close. She pulled back her head and looked at him, except, she couldn't see him. She could feel him, but she couldn't see him. She understood and her eyes went wide, she suddenly held him fast. She buried her head into his shoulder and whispered fiercely to him "You are not going to leave me, understand. I won't help you again -" her voice broke, "-i don't think i can...." she held him close to her and squeezed her eyes shut and only relaxed again when she felt him do so.

She looked up and gazed deeply into his eyes. "Promise you won't do that again, i don't know if you would ever come back again. Please," she whispered up to him. She looked around the room and realised that Elliot was taking his sweet time to meet them. Perhaps he wasn't going to, perhaps he was just herding the freaks to him so that he could dispose of them. Perhaps... she caught herself at that thought, resolutely putting it out of her mind. No, he was coming and he would help her, and Greg, he would help Greg too....

Ike the island of normalcy

IC:

Ike listened to the soft whimper every so often from Melissa; the hushed crying of Lily, including her plea to Greg that he not leave again. As Greg waved his arm around a bit, Ike could see - or rather not see - his hand was gone. Ike took in Lily's desperation, Melissa's stoic brave face, Nick's uneasiness.

Ike closed her eyes and lowered her head. The dehumidifiers for the building must be broken, Ike thought, as the room grew oppressive and damp again.

OOC: Raven, I think we have everyone who will be showing up at this point - we have been dragging this out for over ten days now. Can we please move on?

Elliot

Elliot was so absorbed in his work that he had not been paying attention to the holo-image informing him of his guests arivals. Quantum inducers always had a way of preocupying his time.

For the fifth time, the image played its message. "Sir, your guests are assembled in the meeting hall. They seem to be getting agitated by your absence." "What? Oh... Yes, yes, I will go greet them immediately. LEOT, please see to this, would you?"

"Of course, sir, I shall." Said the Light Enduced Order Taker.

Elliot made his way up from the sub basements, and entered the meeting hall. "Hello, I am sorry for having made you all wait so long..."

Greg wanted to tell her that he was not going to leave Lily but it was then that Elliot appeared as if out of nowhere, forcing him to turn his head and look at him. He wanted nothing more than to run at him and demand that Elliot help him but at the same moment he did not want to leave Lily, he would not leave Lily. He held her closer as he looked at Elliot and felt his anger rising within him, hoping that it would not trigger a reaction within him and make him suddenly disappear through the floor.

He held Lily closer to him as he looked at Elliot then he felt something flowing over him again and raised to hand just to see it slowly appearing before his eyes. A smile came to his face as he saw it appear and the only thing that he wanted was for it to last so that he could talk to Lily and Elliot. He held her even closer and looked at Elliot, glad that he could see the Elliot could see the look on his face.

"Okay, I want you to tell me what the hell is going on here and if you can help me or not. Can you teach us how to use our powers."

Lily felt when he suddenly gripped her tighter and she wondered what was wrong, other than that he was invisible. Then she heard Elliot voice and visibly shrank from it.

She suddenly clung to Greg, for some unknown reason, she was suddenly afraid of what would happen next. She wasn't too sure of the future, or indeed of Elliot's intentions. He had a fancy looking house, what she had seen of it. He also had real fancy looking planes, and little mirror images of himself running around.

Didn't only the villians have fancy stuff?

She heard Greg's rage and suddenly she was holding him, not the other way around. Whatever happened, they were stuck with eachother. At least, she'd be stuck to him.

She held him and waited with bated breath to hear Elliot's reply. She lent her silent comfort to Greg...

Elliot

Looking about the room, Elliot's eyes settled upon Greg, it was as though he were melting forward, into existance. In his mind he calculated that about 83% of the worlds population would have positively freaked out over such an occurance. Elliot, on the other hand was fascinated by it, and took a quick breath of pleased astonishment as Greg asked his question.

"Gregory, I have already told you the first part of your question. It is latent mutenogenic DNA that was triggered by my own powers. What is happening to you, the power you posess, it was always there, just laying dormant. I can understand all of your confusion, and that it can lead you to anger, but all of your anger against me is misplaced. I gave each of you the option to say no to me. Now granted, last night did not at all go the way I had intended it to. But you are here now, where, if you would only let me, I can help you, to the best of my ability. But I can only teach you if you are willing to learn..." Elliot said as he took a seat at the head of the table.

Nick was listening with interest to all that Elliot was saying.

Melissa remained standing, though she did glance over at Elliot. "'Om 'n com'ng." she told him.

She peeked her head out the door, towards the other person who had been coming. Her ears were as perked as they could be without pain. "'Ooo..." she said down the hall, towards the faint flickers of light.

((OOC: I'll prod cats into posting. He's been in the Zion Narrows all weekend.))

Ike shifted uneasily in her seat.

Ike thought, 'so far, I seem to not have any new powers.'

She said to Elliot, "The only thing I have to offer is my scientific skills. I haven't changed."

Ryan - Omega Ryan

Ryan slowly came to. For some reason he felt very odd. He opened his eyes, and an odd feeling went through the back of his head. For some reason, everything felt wrong. He sat up, looking around, trying to fiqure out where he was. The last thing he remembered was the reunion. He looked down, and stared. His hand, it was...

He raised his hand, staring at the smooth, polished, metal-looking skin. He reached up, and poked at his head. He couldn't feel it. He couldn't feel anything. That was what was wrong. He felt like screaming, but couldn't. He suddenly realized he wasn't even breathing.

Ryan stood up, and ran over, hitting a wall. The fact he couldn't feel it barely registered with him. He stared down at his body. This wasn't the body he'd had before. It was thinner, and somehow the strange new skin didn't seem to have any definition. Like a smooth statue, no matter how graceful, was simply not flesh. It wasn't real. His cloothes hung a little loose. He reached down, and pulled forward on his pants, staring at his groin.

Ryan world went dark as he feinted in shock. He didn't feel the wall as he hit it, and slid to the floor. The position his body was in would have been drastically uncomfortable before the change. Now it was as bland as a luxurious bed.

Ryan's dreams were haunted by a thousand nightmares, and none of them were as horrible as his new reality.

Lily listened to Elliot, though she had to concentrate very hard. She could also hear Greg's heartbeat next to her ear. It was sufficient enough to distract her slightly.

"I gave each of you the option to say no to me"

Lily suddenly sat ramrod straight, pulling abruptly away from Greg. She stared at Elliot. Just sat and stared at him. Then she stood, straight and tall. She took one step towards Elliot and forced the soft voiced words from her mouth, "You sound so fair and accomodating to these," she looked around pointedly at the others assembled in the room, pausing only briefly on Melissa, "people. They may have let you touch them willingly, but what about me? Where is my signed contract? Where is my life for that matter? I have none. You say you gave each and everyone an opportunity to refuse," she took another small step forward, her voice still that soft tone, "What happened to my objection? Sure, i was considered a freak in highschool, but i never actually wanted to be one!" This last comment said with a hard edge to it, with a bare hint of anger and despair.

She stood, staring at him, her hands clenching and unclenching at her sides. "I am numb because of you. The only way to subdue these...." she hunted around for the right word, "...powers was to stop. Everything, including feeling. Including being human." She looked backwards suddenly to Greg and continued softly, "Including being with other humans."

Lily Cooper slowly shook her head and gave a slight curious expression to Elliot, "I didn't ask to be like this. I never asked for this, I never got the chance to object, so don't act like you are so high and mighty. Like we got ourselves into this mess all on our own. We didn't. It wasn't my fault that Karoline hated me, or that she tormented me everday. It wasn't my fault that that day she pushed me. It wasn't my fault that I almost fell, it wasn't my fault that you happen to be there to catch me. To touch me." she suddenly sighed and seemed to look at him then, like she had suddenly given up, "Its not my fault that you can touch people and bring out their latent powers."

Lily suddenly looked like she was completely drained. The colour seemed to have leeched from her face and she seemed to be swaying on her feet. She almost whispered, "Never again tell me that I had a choice, never again...."

((Ok, forgive me for just buttin' in here, but can anyone interested in bein' a superhero join in? I take some new team is being formed to stop some big bad? What's the sitch and how can I gain entry? Any restrictions on powers?))
