Defenders of New York (Super Hero's)

Elliot

"Than perhaps, Ike, the power I unlocked within you is interlinked with your scientific skills, it is not so uncommon actually, I have here with me at the H.E.R.O. institute someone with much the same skills, technologically speaking. He would be greatly pleased to meet someone like you Ike. After all, all the technology we have here was supplied by him."

Elliot shifted his gaze toward Ryan as he came to, ran, crashed into the far wall, then fainted once more. Casually, Elliot touched a button pinned to his shirt. A musical note rang out from seemingly the air about Elliot. "Collin, we have a code forty-two, amorphous entity, we need a level 6 quarintine, thank you."

Elliot leaned back in his seat, turning to face Lily as she spoke. He regarded her with sympathetic regret. "Lily, I understand, you didn't have a choice then, a regretable mistake, but you have a choice now. Stay here, let me, let us help you. There is nothing that cannot be overcome. For as much as your life has been hell because of me, I am sure there will be seven times that in store for you, of the things that make life worth living."

Ike grew angry hearing Ryan called an 'amorphous entity.' Ike wondered at how much of Elliot's sympathetic show went beneath his skin.

Ike pounded the table as she stood up "That isn't an amorphous entity - THAT"S RYAN!" Ike shook, "Like Lily, he didn't ask for what happened to him. If you can't treat him with compassion, then at least treat him with RESPECT."

Ike moved around the room to check on Ryan.

The lights in the hall flickered off, unnoticed to Melissa, who was still by the door but watching the room. Nick was very pointedly focused on the knees of his pants, and everyone else, short of Elliot and the silvery apparenly-a-man not moving on the floor.

Melissa whined softly in her throat, out of general concern for well, pretty much everyone, seeing as how most people were in a situation similar to her own. She padded fumblingly over to her seat near Nick, grasped the chair and sat down, opting to let Elliot have a chance to deal with things for a while.

Elliot

As Ike neared Ryan, a flash of light surrounded his form, and a moment later, he was gone. "Transport complete, sir." a voice floated on the ionized air. "Yes Ike, I know he is Ryan, but you of all people should understand that to a scientific mind 'Ryan needs help' won't render the desired effect. I am sorry that you were offended, but right now, making sure Ryan is properly taken care of requires a bit of coldness. Right now Ryan is with the best scientific mind, perhaps in the world. And like Lily, and Ryan, neather did I ask for what I got, but I have embraced my power as a blessing, not a curse."

Greg sat back and watched as everyone shouted at Elliot, to vent their frustrations at him. He knew what they were feeling as he was feeling it himself but he just sat back on the large couch and watched them in shock. He wanted to hear what Elliot was going to say but he knew that the others were not going to let him as he wanted to talk to Elliot himself.

He knew that he was still angry with Elliot, he could still feel that within him but he did not want to let it out as there was no real point to it. It was then that he felt something flowing over him and raised one hand, smiling as he saw his hand slowly disappear. As soon as it was gone he slowly got to his feet and while he tried not to make too much noise walked out of the room, cursing silently as the doors opened to let him out.

As soon as he entered the hallway he started to walk down it and all that he was thinking of was the people that were in that room and how much they were arguing. He shook his head as he walked back to the large hangar bay just to see the jet that sat there which made him walk towards it.

He came close to the jet and as soon as he did the hologram of Elliot appeared out of nowhere once again which made him stop in his tracks.

"I am sorry but you can not leave. I know how much you would like to but I am afraid you will have to stay here."

Greg felt his power flow over him again, "I do not want to leave! Just because I'm here it does not mean that I want to leave, now leave me alone!"

"Yes Ike, I know he is Ryan, ... And like Lily, and Ryan, neather did I ask for what I got, but I have embraced my power as a blessing, not a curse."

Ike stood with her back to everyone. "Your blessing, his curse. He was trying to protect me. I should be the one needing 'scientific minds' - not him. Not him. It may have been your power that changed him. But it is my fault... my responsibility... he was in a position to be changed."

She turned to look at Elliot with a haunted expression, "It seems ironic that my change was so much more... benign."

She sat back down, sadness written on her face.

Lily stood there, swaying, unable to for the moment, stay on her feet. She stepped back and sat down beside Greg again. She was drained, emotionally, physically. Thinking to herself, she realised that there was no real point being angry. She had originally sought Elliot so that she could get help. She hadn’t known what kind of help, but some kind.

She sighed, shaking her head. Staring dumbly as Ryan came to… and then blacked out again. She had no idea who that was, but she felt some pity for him. At least she was still human.

She turned her head to look at Greg and frowned as she saw him stand up. She also caught his disappearing hand in the corner of her eye. She tilted her head and then realised that he was leaving. Shaking her head, she made her way past Elliot and Ike, hoping they hadn’t seen her slip past them. She really wasn’t angry… she tried to convince herself. She was just… helpless.

“Greg” she called softly as he went out the door. “Greg” she repeated softly, something about the corridor made her lower her voice, some sense of awe, perhaps. “Greg!” she called louder, following him. He was walking pretty fast and she couldn’t catch up, not unless he slowed down.

Lily followed Greg to the hanger bay, thinking she’d just let him go where ever he wanted to go, then call him again when he had stopped. It didn’t occur to her that he might want to be alone. She seemed to have missed the body language section of Social Interactions 101.

She walked in just when he was talking to one of the many holographic images of Elliot. She rolled her eyes, couldn’t he have programmed someone better looking to represent the system? Was he so vain that he would have little mirror images of himself running around this… this… H.E.R.O Institute?

"I do not want to leave! Just because I'm here it does not mean that I want to leave, now leave me alone!"

She stopped short when she heard Greg’s short, blunt comment. She stood there, not three metres away from him, at a complete loss. Something inside her had told her to follow him and now she forlornly realised that he wanted nothing else but to be left alone.

She hesitantly reached out, as if to tap his shoulder, but her hand curled into a reluctant fist and then fell to her side. She stared at him for a while, thinking. Maybe… maybe… she could talk to him, like she hadn’t been able to anyone since the, incident. Maybe he needed some one to talk to? Perhaps she should just go and leave him to his peace? Sighing she turned and began to slowly walk away…

Greg turned as soon as he heard the retreating footsteps to see Lily walk away from him and inwardly cursed himself. He wanted nothing to be alone at the moment so that he could think but he had never thought about Lily, about how she would feel if he left her the way that he had and not said anything but there was another part of him that wanted her to go so that he could be left alone to do some thinking. He shook his head and wanted to say something to stop her from walking away, anything to keep her there but nothing was coming to mind and it was frustrating him.

He looked down at the floor and then looked at the retreating form of Lily once again.

"What do you want? Why did you follow me out here?"

It was then that he realised what he had said was out of line and shook his head again, cursing his stupidity.

"Lily, please stop. I am glad that you came out here with me. I do not mean to be harsh but do you think that Elliot can help at all although I seriously doubt it."

He turned and walked to the hangar door and looked out at the vast open plain beyond, wishing that he knew where they were and how far away from home they really were.

Jumping In

NightShade watched all of them from above- those people who had unknowingly been unfortunate enough to cross her path before, those people who deemed themselves 'good' and foolishly set out on the hopeless task of trying to 'save' or 'defend' the city.

Her waist-length inky black hair whipped in the breeze as shadows crossed the sky and the streets, the same shadows that clung to her like a dark and deadly aura, and a wolfish smile crossed her blood-red lips.

And her whisper came out ghost-like as if from the air/the shadows themselves, taken by the soft wind floating by her on the skyriser, "Watch out New York, I'm coming for you. Are you ready?"

Lily trailed her steps slowly, dragging her feet. She winced and inwardly cowered at his harsh tone of voice.

"Lily, please stop. I am glad that you came out here with me. I do not mean to be harsh but do you think that Elliot can help at all although I seriously doubt it."

She slowly turned around and watched as he made his way to the hanger door. She stood there, silent. Then she said softly, much too softly for him to hear, “You already have the answer to that.”

She stood there, silent, if not lending her voice, at least lending her presence to his thoughts.

Greg stood silently at the door to the hangar and could feel Lily there with him, in the large hangar bay but he didn't want to turn around and look at her after what he had said to her. He wanted so much to tell her how sorry he was about what he had said to her but he could not find the words to say, no matter how much he wanted to say them. He looked out at the vast open area in front of him and let out a scream that seemed to be ripped from him then fly out into the air to be carried away from it.

He fell to his knees on the floor of the hangar and wanted nothing more than to disappear, a smile coming to his face when he felt his power flow over him again and looked down at his hand that was on the ground. When it slowly but surely disappeared in front of his eyes he was flad to see it but stayed on his knees then looked up at the ceiling of the hangar bay.

"This is not what I wanted Elliot! You never told me about this, you never said that this would happen. We are freaks because of you!"

He then slammed his fist down onto the floor of the hangar bay, shouting out as the bones in his right hand broke with the force.

Melissa's ears perked at the slight sound, someone distant shouting briefly, and she winced again. It was getting easier to move her ears, but only marginally.

She turned her immediate sympahties to Ike, extending a hand, it could still be called one for now, and patting Ike's shoulder gently. She didn't claim to understand what Ike was going through but managed, through a light fog in her mind that hazed out her finer emotions, to convey simply condolances. She also made, unconciously, a low, warm, rumbling sound which was obviously not a growl but also couldn't be called a purr by any stretch of imagination.

Lily silently watched him. Watched his large, stoic back and wondered briefly if she was still needed. She banished the thought and stubbornly stayed right where she was. She had made a friend, at least that's what she thought, and she wasn't about to let go of him.

She stood there, not wanting to say anything, not knowing what to say. Her eyes widened when he suddenly screamed into the open space, the sound of it piercing her heart with it's misery. She cried out softly, a tiny echo of his almighty shout. She took a hesitant step forward when he sank to his knees but wasn't sure if he wanted her anywhere near him. She bit her lip and reached out as if to touch him again, but dropped her hand to her side once more.

Outside, dark clouds began to gather. Distant thunder rumbled on the horizon, but neither of them noticed. They were too caught up in their individual miseries. Then Greg began to disappear before her eyes. She could only faintly see the outline of his shadow against the hanger bay door. His clothes were still visible though, it was strange, just seeing clothes before her.

"This is not what I wanted Elliot! You never told me about this, you never said that this would happen. We are freaks because of you!"

Lily Cooper jumped, startled when he called out his curse to Elliot. She stepped backwards then, shaken at this outburst. 'So this is how he really feels?" she thought sadly. Her eyes became downcast and she looked at her hands, shifting her feet slightly...

Outside the thunder became louder, angry lightning arched jaggedly across the sky, illuminating the dark cloud cover. The thunder boomed and the lightning flashed. It seemed as if the very gods themselves were caught up in their misery and anger.

She ran forward suddenly as she heard Greg’s pained cry as he violently broke the delicate bones in his right hand. She knelt down before his visible clothes. Then she reached out another hesitant hand and softly made contact with his arm. She slowly slid her hand down his arm to his hand and pulled in a ragged breath as she tenderly felt how hot his hand was. She had no idea it was broken but when he felt him flinch at her touch, she guessed how much it hurt. Then carefully, tenderly, she took his hand in both of hers. Not knowing what to do, she gently blew on the angry hot skin, not being able to see it didn't help her ministrations any.

She looked up at where she guessed his face may be, a bit above his visible collar line and gave him a desperate searching look. When she spoke her voice was barely a whisper. So low and full of despair, full of rejection, full of lost hope.

The rain began to fall, hard and fast.....

“So you think I’m a freak after all”

When Lily spoke her voice was barely a whisper, “So you think I’m a freak after all.”

Ike looked over at Lily. "In this room, Lily, in this room you are the normal one, and those who are not vastly changed are the ones who are out of place."

Ike looked down at the floor, wondering if she should stay in the room with all the upset, or leave the room to find a quiet corner.

"Elliot," she finaly said, "I'd like to meet the other scientists. Please."

He raised his head to look at Lily with wide eyes although he knew that she could not see it but winced when she touched then blew on his hand. He heard the question that she asked and knew what the best thing to say was.

"Of course not, I do not see you as a freak. I never have."

As soon as he said it though one thought came to him, What if I do think that. What if I think that we are nothing more than freaks because of what Elliot has done to us.

He slowly closed his eyes, felt his power flow over him and looked at Lily as if trying to see something there in her eyes and hoping that she could see something in his. He wanted to say something to her but there was nothing that he could say, it was as if he did not want to say anything to her.... as if he wanted her to leave him alone with his own thoughts, with his own pain.

((OOC: I got the impression that Lily and Greg were in a completely different area than Ike, Melissa, Elliot and Nick. Did Lily move and I missed ir, or am I mistaken?))

Melissa perked up slightly at Ike's idea of seeing the Scientists. She had, after all, chosen to recieve her powers, which was apparenly more than any of the other people here could say. Nick seemed interested as well, which encouraged Melissa to ask, looking from Elliot to Ike, back to Elliot and back to Ike as she spoke,

"'An com' oo? 'Oo shree ski-" she paused, knowing her word to be garbled, and then tried to say it again, "shrin'tsts?"

Melissa's speech was becoming more and more difficult to understand, as the shapes of her jaws and tongue were changing.

OOC: yeah, we are in the hanger bay. You are right Tumble

Lily tried to look at him, but all she could see were his clothes. It seemed that he could only make his own skin invisible. She sighed, not knowing what to do. She wasn't even sure what had happened to his hand, not being able to see it.

"Of course not, I do not see you as a freak. I never have."

For some reason, she didn't really believe him. Maybe it was the lack of tone in his voice, or the doubt she could hear. But she refused to believe that he thought of her like everybody else did. He was different, he was Greg. The Invisible Man.... he was still talking to her.

She sighed, not getting a single inkling that he just wanted to be alone. "Greg, what did you do to your hand? Whatever it is, I'll help you." 'I'll try' she almost said, but she managed not to.

She stared out at the angry weather and wondered if it was her fault. Was she really this powerful? Could she learn to control something like this?

Greg looked at Lily when she asked to help and wondered what he was doing but before he could stop himself snatched his hand away and held it close to himself. He knew as soon as he had done it that it was a mistake but he did not want her to touch him right now although he had no idea why that was. He slowly got to his feet, wincing in pain as soon as he put his weight onto his broken hand and looked down at her, getting shocked by the pain that he could see in her eyes.

She was the one person that he did not want to hurt but he knew that he was doing so just by his actions right now. He hated the fact that he was hurting her but he hated being here even more and he found that he couldn't stand this place any longer, especially because things were not going exactly how he thought that they would. Elliot did not seem to know what the hell he was doing and the other people were following him blindly, as if Elliot had all the answers for them and Greg knew that was not the fact.

He held his hand to his chest and looked at Lily but then looked away quickly, unable to see the pain that was written in her eyes.

"Why do you stay here Lily? Do you think that Elliot has any clue of what the hell he is doing because I have a feeling that he doesn't. I will not stay here and get experimented on just so he can figure out just what makes us who we are and how to bring our powers out of ourselves. I will not be a part of that. All that I ask is that you come with me."

He held out his other hand to her and hoped that she would take it but he knew in the back of his mind that she would not and that this would be goodbye.

She slowly stood, looking distantly out of the hanger bay doors. The pain in her eyes could still be seen when she turned her head painfully back to face him. Then those same green eyes, clouded with a pain that only she knew, slowly travelled down the sleeve of his arm to his outstretched hand. Why did you pull away from me?

“And go where?” pain clearly etched in her face and her softly spoken voice. “Where else can we go and still be what we are? Where else is there for us? We need to know how to control this; we need to know what we can do. I need to know… It was Elliot that made me what I am, and I need to understand what he did to me.” Her mouth twisted into a harsh laugh, “I guess it was my fault, I mean, I did have a crush on him when he… he… turned me,” she looked at him once again, square in his eyes the pain still yearning and fresh and seemed to sense too that this was goodbye. “Please,” she whispered softly, “Please stay. If not for Elliot, please stay here with me,” she pleaded.

Then, without waiting for his reply, she stood on tip toe and lightly kissed him on the lips. Just a mere touch of their bodies, the boldest thing she had ever done in her life. “I will wait for you, for your answer,” Then she whirled around and ran across the hanger bay floor to the corridor that led to the room the others were in, she kept on running. She didn’t dare to look back over her shoulder, Please be behind me, please be following me back. Please give me the answer I need she pleaded to herself, praying with all that she had.

She only slowed to a stiff legged walk when she neared the door of the room. Slipping inside she walked silently to the couch where she had been barely ten minutes before. There she sat, barely paying attention to those around her. She had chosen her path, and right now that path was with Elliot and discovering what she was.

She stared distantly at the door, wishing that it would open and show her the man she had fallen in love with. But it did not and she could not ignore the fact that she had had heard no signs of pursuit during her pained flight from the hanger bay. From him.

As she sat ramrod straight, clutching her thighs till her knuckles turned white, she paid no heed to her surroundings. Only one thought was on her mind…

Greg…

Greg stood there and watched as Lily walked away from him then turned and walked back towards the hangar bay entrance and looked out at the the wide expanse before him. He knew what she was asking him, he knew that she wanted to learn how to control the powers that she had as did he but he knew that Elliot was not the way to learn these things as it seemed as though Elliot did not know what he was doing and he just wanted to see what everyone of these people that he had touched could do.

He turned back towards the hall that Lily had just walked down and wondered if he should indeed follow her, just to see if he could listen to Elliot and hear what his plans were so that she could be around her but something told him he couldn't do that. He turned back towards the hangar bay entrance again and moved the fingers of his broken hand, wincing but revelling in the pain that he could feel from his hand but it snapped him back to reality.

It was then that he felt his power flow over him but this time it was more intense than it had been before and he knew that he was not just disappearing but he was going into the other half of his power, his means of escaping. He took one look at the hallway and said, "Goodbye Lily, sorry that I cannot stay."

ooc: Sorry, I thought they had sat down in the room with the rest of us... Mea culpa.

IC:
Melissa's request brought Ike back to the room, and the fact that there were others that still needed help getting sorted out through the change.

Ike gave Melissa a well meant half smile and patted her shoulder, "Yeah, you can come see the scientists too."

Ike looked over at Nick, "How about you, Nick? You going to stick around for a while?"

Lily looked around, seeing the room truly for the first time. It seemed that she had truly been so engrossed in Greg that she hadn't taken too much notice of things.

She stood, "So what do we do now?" she had excepted her fate, for now. She would find learn about her powers, about the others, about herself and then she would find Greg. Then she would be with him and help him, but for now, she had to help herself.

She stood silently waiting for Elliot to start things off.

Melissa smiled at Ike, obviously pleased, and looked over at Nick.

Nick nodded at Ike's question, "As long as I'm welcome I'll stay." He looked over at Elliot for confirmation, and Melissa slumped back slightly to lean against him, looking slightly relieved.
