Defenders of New York (Super Hero's)

Melissa accepted the semi-wet packet she was handed, glanced over and the circling men- Elliot, who sounded almost familar and water-tower man -before she skimmed the contents. Then she read the packet more closely. She looked back up at the woman who had handed it to her. She hadn't caught the woman's name yet, but that, she reasoned, would come in time. "Sounds cool. What do you think? Did you get any spiffy super powers or anything?"

Melissa ... hadn't caught the woman's name yet, but that, she reasoned, would come in time. "Sounds cool. What do you think? Did you get any spiffy super powers or anything?"

Ike chuckled softly, "Well on the way to becoming a super hero, a number of things prevented me from getting the..." Ike shrugged, not knowing what to call it, "Then Greg and Roni ran out of here, Greg yelled, Elliot ran off, and Puddle man showed up." Ike looked as if she were thinking about something as she looked at Melissa, "I'm sorry, but I am having trouble remembering your name..."

Chuckled softly as she heard his laughter. She liked the sound of his voice, she suddenly realised. Especially his laugh.

She sighed, dismissing the thought of asking him on a date. She didn't know him, and well, he could be married or something. Or worse still, he could reject her, after all, she was a freak. Even if he could turn invisible, that didn't mean he was one too. It just meant that he could turn invisible, she so wished she could sometimes, especially right now, she thought as Greg offered her the door.

Somewhat self conciously she walked ahead of him into the hallway. Hearing the click of the door closing once Greg had joined her. Her embarrassment at her thought made her speed her way into the gym, the sound of her heels clicking on the floor echoing along the hallway.

As she entered the gym, she halted, too shocked to even comprehend the sight before her eyes. A man dressed completely in sea foam was standing in the middle of the gym. Elliot was slowly circling and everybody else was acting as if this were completely normal.

She turned to Greg and looked deeply into his eyes, "I really do think i'm going insane," she whispered fearfully...

Elliot

Daniel looked at Ike and Ryan. "Well, if you two are going to Papa Leonie's, I think we will meet you there. I would like to talk to Elliot about this super-hero thing." Daniel held onto his wife's hand and walked over to where Elliot was standing. "Hey, Elliot, how are you doing? It's been a while since we last saw each other."

"Ah, I recognize you... Daniel, isn't it?" Elliot said with a host's charm, putting off the duel of words he was about to have with Cliff for just a moment. Besides, it would seem his 'arch-nemisis's' tongue was stilled. "Thank you for asking, actually, not so well... Its a bit of a story I am afraid. I'd offer you some punch but it seems to have gone missing... Say, did you happen to notice the GUY MADE OUT OF WATER, STANDING BEHIND ME?!" Elliot just snapped, everyone had been saying he was nuts, or insane, just plain crasy, well, now he was.

Ryan

Ryan sighed. Normally seeing a man made of water, would, undoubtedly freak him out. However, having been miracle-healed, he was willing to accept the idea of super-powered humans for the moment. THough how 'super' all the powers could be was still left to chance. Ryan turned to Ike, a very serious look coming over his face. "I think now would be a good time to leave, but first-"

Ryan turned, walking to Elliot, who it seems, was finally starting to feel the emotional problems he'd foisted off on everyone else. He walked up to him, looked him in the eyes, and brought his hand around to smack him as hard as he could.

"ELLIOT! NO FUCK HE'S MADE OF WATER! But you've been pushing the idea of SUPERPOWERS all FUCKING night! You want us to start being surprised NOW!? LOOK! It's Puddle-Man! You're not insane anymore! What now, you want us all to rush up and sign your contracts, which aren't that legally binding anyway, without witnesses or- No, fuck that, man, what's wrong with you? You think these people that signed really expect superpowers? You think they're ready to have their lives turned upside down, as every cop and national guard incident becomes a phone call? You think they're ready to become instant celebrities? Because you can't hide this shit in real life with a mask and tights, asshole! And being a vigilante is ILLEGAL in case it slipped your memory! Gods, you're a real piece of work, you know. You want us to suddenly start believing in something we've lived our whole lives knowing is fiction, then sign up for it like getting a new job, and now what, you're surprised when we're a little too shocked to be surprised by Puddle-Man over there? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOUR PRIORITIES!?"

Elliot

Suddenly Elliot felt like he was back in high school, another bull headed jock taking a swing at him because he stared too long, or... breathed too much. He lifted a hand to deflect Ryan's swing, and as his hand connected with Elliot's bared wrist, Elliot felt the jolt of energy that indicated the activation of his power. The sensation reminded him of a sunday school story about Jesus realizing when power had gone out of him.

He stood and stared into Ryan's eyes absently, numbly taking the verbal abuse he was getting. When he was done, Elliot spoke bare above a whisper. "You shouldn't have done that Ryan... My touch... You just... I never meant for any of you, who didn't want it... To get it... But you... You had to." Elliot just stood there, shaking his head.

Melisa, at this point, was trying very pointedly to pretend not to be paying attention to the screaming going on, though she jumped slightly at each yell, and at the sound of skin hitting skin.

"No worries." she said to the woman addressing her and shifting the contract to hold out a hand to shake, "I'm Melissa...I wasn't too...well known or anything."

She waited, trying to look as attentive as possible and not glance quite so often over at whatever raucus was going on not too far away, for the other woman's name.

Greg stood there in total shock and looked at everyone in the gym as if he himself was going mad. He stood there and wondered just what the hell was going on ask he saw exactly what Lily saw and he could not believe his eyes. There was a man standing there and he looked as if he was made out of water and then it came to him. He moved close to Lily and whispered in her ear, "Do you remember the rumour about the boy that got turned into a puddle, I think he came home."

It was then that he felt as though something was happening to him again and it felt different from being turning invisible. He rested his hand on Lily's shoulder and suddenly found that he couldn't feel it anymore, it felt as though he was disappearing completely.

"Help me."

Lily shivered slightly as he whispered in her ear. Yes, she decided, she definately liked the sound of his voice.

"Do you remember the rumour about the boy that got turned into a puddle, I think he came home."

She frowned as she sorted through her filing cabinet for a brain. Having a photographic memory did always help. Then again, it could also be a pain in the ass. Sure, she could remember the good things vividly, but she also remembered the bad things vividly too and unfortunately there were more bad memories than good ones in her past.

She looked into his eyes as he put a hand on her shoulder, but for some reason, she didn't feel it make contact with her shoulder. She looked down and saw that not only couldn't she see him, she couldn't feel him either.

"Help me."

Not knowing quite what to do, Lily swept her eyes around the interior of the gym. Her eyes caught on the form of puddle man. She smiled, she had an idea. She turned back to Greg and whispered a hurried "Wait here". Then heedless of whatever was going on in the gym, she sprinted across the floor towards the buffet table. On it were several bottles of water. She grabbed one of them and ran back to Greg.

As she unscrewed the cap she muttered "I'm sorry" and promptley dashed the contents onto his face. As the water streamed down his face, she closed her eyes and concentrated on each and every molecule of water touching him.

As she concentrated, she added to the water. You see that was what she could do, she could add to and manipulate the elements around her. Except, she wasn't quite sure what she was doing at the moment, all she knew was that Greg was disappearing, like he was dispersing into the air. She needed to contain him, to prevent his body from flying away. And Puddle Man had given her the answer.

Slowly the water increased, and with all due concentration, she encased Greg in a thin layer of water. She fervently hoped that he would reconstitute before his air ran out.

After this deed, she blinked slowly at him standing infront of her. She had had no idea that she could do that, it had all been instinct. She tilted her head at him, frowning as she fought to keep control of the case of water. "Please, concentrate very hard on a happy memory. I don't know how these 'powers' work, but i found that when i did something scary, it usually went away with a happy memory." The only trick was finding one, she added to herself.

Ryan

A shock ran up his arm, which was good. The confusion sidetracked him momentarilly. He glanced at his arm, and turned to Elliot. He opened his mouth just as the nerve endings completed their message to the brain. PAIN blasted through Ryan for an instant, and then the world went numb.

Ryan was confused for the few moments between his brain shutting down reception from his nervous system to when everything turned black and he collapsed in the gym. Under his skin, cells were frantically following a new pattern of change that had just been initiated, and passing the message onward.

It would take three, maybe four days to complete the changes taking place. Cells had to mutate, divide, organs had to be phased out, spaces filled, bone structures redefined.

All in all, it would be a busy few days.

If Ryan had known this, perhaps he would have been more angry then confused as the world collapsed into a single point, the floor rushing up to meet him.

Greg felt as though he was passing through the water, as though nothing he could do could hold him back. He felt like he was disappearing into nothingness and he wanted to stay where he was, go back to what he was even if that meant that he was going to get wet. He heard Lily's voice about thinking of a happy thought and trying to come back and closed his eyes trying to think of something anything that would bring him back.

I feel so stupid doing this. What if it does not work, what do I do then? he thought and it was then that something struck him and he found himself coming back to normal, as normal as he got anyway and it wa then that he felt the water holding him there but instead of him being wet as he thought he would be he felt himself being held in place. He turned his head as slowly as he could and looked at Lily.

"Thanks for the help but please take this bubble off me and thanks for the happy thought."

He smiled at her, she was truly the cause of the happy thought.

Robert and Alex climbed into his car, and slowly drove away from the school towards '101 Flavours'. The journey wasn't long and they were soon at the small eatery. Parking up his car, Robert climbed out and, with Alex, walked inside, sitting down at a nearby table and ordering a large vanilla icecream.

"So. Anything interesting happen in your life recently? Besides this reunion thing, I mean"

Catalyst for good...

"No worries." she said to the woman addressing her and shifting the contract to hold out a hand to shake, "I'm Melissa...I wasn't too...well known or anything."

"Ike Poston." She took Melissa's hand and shook it as Elliot started his rant about the Puddle man she was still trying to ignore without screaming. Ryan moved toward Ryan and shouted back at Elliot. Ike was vaugly aware of Greg coming back into the gym, with another person with him. Good. Ike relaxed slightly, at least Greg seems to be OK.

As Ryan continued shouting, the woman who had been standing next to Greg ran over to the buffet table and grabbed a couple of bottled waters and poured them out at the door to the gym. Greg had gone from Ike's line of sight. Ryan struck at Elliot...
"You shouldn't have done that Ryan... My touch... You just... I never meant for any of you, who didn't want it... To get it... But you... You had to." Elliot just stood there, shaking his head.

Ryan collapsed on the floor.

"RYAN!" Ike cried and ran towards her friend, "Elliot! What did you DO! Someone get a blanket! Someone call..." Ike was going to say 911, but what would they say? Come help us we have been turned into super powered freaks?

Think, Ike think, she told herself. Put the jumble to good use for a change.

"Elliot, go get the fire blanket and the first aid kit. Don't just stand there like a bump on a log, man!" She grabbed Elliot's arm and turned him toward where she remembered the fire and first aid supplies were. A jolt went through her hand and up her arm. She shook her hand, "Well," she said to Elliot, "hurry up!"

You can do this, she told herself, channel where this is going, control your own reaction this time.

"You," Ike turned on Puddle boy. She opened her mouth uncertain what to say... "You... Puddle... erm... Cliff, could you, I mean it was impressive as heck, but at the moment it is extremely distracting. Can you, I mean Greg seems," human she was going to say, "to look like a normal person."

"Daniel, can I borrow your jacket," Ike asked her former classmate, "I need something to use as a pillow for Ryan's head."

Ike knelt on the floor and checked Ryan's pulse and that he was breathing. Gingerly she rolled him over. She wondered if she would scream or collapse next. Activity whirled around her while she felt unchanged by it all.

We picked a table by the entrance. I ordered a large chocolate ice cream still unsure if it actually did do more for me as a girl.

'So, anything interesting happen in your life recently? Besides this reunion thing, I mean.' I thought briefly before replying.

"Well a got my sex change, but since I had been dressed like a girl for so long it actually was kind of anticlimactic. No one would of even noticed if I wasn't out recovering from the surgery. So I guess the only exciting thing was me changing jobs."

Lily gasped as she heard Greg's voice. She opened her eyes, her lips slightly parted and she smiled at him....

"Happy memory?" she asked, then laughed, "Oh, ok. It worked didn't it? The happy memory thing?" she queried, looking at him with a slightly puzzled expression, not realising that he had thought of her to bring himself back.

She gave him another winning smile, she really was starting to like this guy. "Welcome back!" she beamed. Then she frowned. She thought for a long time, but no matter how long she stood there, she couldn't figure out for the life of her how to get the 'Water bubble' off him. She didn't think that she had that much control over her 'power'.

She looked at him, wondering at the sight of him encased completely in water. She shrugged, "I'm sorry Greg, but i can't get you out - " she paused, a thought suddenly coming to her.

She frowned in concentration, closing her eyes. She took a few quick, short breaths. Then she shot her hand out and poked the bubble of water. It promptley burst all over him. "Just like popping a balloon," she breathed.

Lily laughed as she looked at Greg's wet state. She tilted her head slightly and smirked, "Well think of it this way. Payback". She chuckled slightly, mischief dancing in her eyes....

Greg looked at Lily and wanted to smile but felt the clothing clinging to skin.
"You enjoyed that, didn't you?"

It was then that he smiled and looked at her, wishing that he could think of something funny or witty to say but his mind was a complete blank and all that he could do was laugh. He could feel something towards Lily, some sort of connection building with her but he did not want to something stupid and ruin it which was pretty normal for what he did.

He saw his coat and in that instant wished that he was wearing it and he wanted to ask for it back but as much as he did he wanted Lily to hold onto it. He moved closer to her, "I know that this is a strange question to ask. What am I saying; this entire night has been strange but how much control do you have over your powers. I mean do they randomly happen when you least expect or want them to or are you at the same stage as I am where you are just learning how to do something with them?"

Ike at the Motel

OOC: per Raven's request we get this night over… (kamalw1, I hope you don't mind me borrowing Daniel for a few minutes to help move Ryan…) … just keep in mind not all powers are flashy and visible as soon as they "develop" – I want to have a bit of fun with Ike learning what she does. :p (I am also playing it as if she missed discovering Roni dead in the parking lot – killed by Cliff the puddle man…)

IC:

Daniel and his wife had helped Ike move Ryan to her car and then to the extra bed in her room. Like Greg, Ryan's transformation was not an easy path.

After settling Ryan on the bed and covering him with a blanket, she changed into jeans and a T-shirt. Ike sat on her bed at the cheap motel.

It's all my fault, Ike thought. If I hadn't stepped forward, Ryan wouldn't have felt the need to protect me from Elliot.

She looked down at her hand. There had been a spark, like static electricity, that had given her hand a mild shock. It had been hours since then, and she felt no different. She neither turned into a puddle, nor grew stronger, taller and beautiful like Roni. Ike felt like weeping, she had wanted Elliot's touch, but she had nothing to show for it. Ryan who had not desired it… lay under the sheet in the other bed changing into something he didn't want to be.

She didn't bother crawling under the sheets on her bed, she just curled up on top of them and drifted off into a light and troubled sleep.

((goin' with the flow...))

Melissa went home and sat for a long while, pondering the night over a sandwitch and a book she had read a hundred times over. Her hand no longer tingled, as it has when Elliot had touched it, but her knees were sore. Taking this as a sign of protest from her body, she decided it was time for bed, and as such, changed into PJ's and went to sleep. She slept heavily naturally, but tonight she slept like the dead.

OOC: sorry but i can't end tonight just yet, i have to answer Greg's question, but will be ending it soon for everyone else.

"I know that this is a strange question to ask. What am I saying; this entire night has been strange but how much control do you have over your powers. I mean do they randomly happen when you least expect or want them to or are you at the same stage as I am where you are just learning how to do something with them?"

Lily listened with some trepidation to his question. Starting a sentence like that didn't inspire alot of confidance in her. Then she smiled, a little uncomfortably.

"Well, I don't really know if i have any control. It's actually scary. Sometimes i know that i need to do something and i close my eyes. When i open them again, it's done. Sometimes i black out, but i'm slowly learning. I remember when i first discovered them. I couldn't predict when they would suddenly come out. I'd be shopping, and then i'd burst into flames." she laughed a little self consciously, "I got used to packing a spare set of clothes after a while-" she mused, "-but i got used to it. I know that I can 'do' things with fire and water, but i need something there to help me along. Like a spark or-" she grinned "- a bottle of water".

She hesitated slightly, "I'd love to continue this but, i think we should go somewhere, anywhere. Away from this mad house anyway." she noticed that it was Greg who was shivering this time, she smiled and removed his coat, draping it around his shoulders once more.

She stood there, her arms still wrapped around him, holding the coat. She looked into his eyes for a long time. "You need to get home, you're shivering, and i don't think i could warm you like i did for myself, I just don't have enough control yet."

She stood there awkwardly, wishing that he would invite her to come....but knowing that he wouldn't....her arms still around him...

Alexis Durran

IC: My day had been uneventful compared to yesterday thus far. I had slept well despite having a head full of odd thoughts like why I was drenched one minute and dry the next. Had the sprinklers actually gone off, or was it some sort of mass magic trick?

I made my way to the mailbox. What about the hand shake, that just didn't feel right, and that couldn't be an illusion, something there couldn't feel right and it was as simple as that. But what was it I had felt then. I walked inside and looked at the clock. "I don't have to head to work yet." I grabbed a letter. "Hmm power bill." I stuck my finger nail in the envelope and tore it open. "I wonder how much it is." I tired to pull the letter out but was surprised to find it still shut. I stuck my finger nail in the envelope and tore it open. "Hmm deja vous." I reached for the letter once more and found the envelope tightly sealed.

"Maybe there was something in the punch last night." I went to the kitchen and grabbed a butter knife. "Something just seems off today." I took the knife and cut across the top of the envelope. "Then again I was fine until I got the mail, maybe there was something in there." I set down the knife and examined the still shut envelope. I dropped it in mid air and stepped back as it floated to the ground. I'm not touching it again.

I went over to the rest of mail. I grabbed the next one and slid my nail across the glued flap and then folded it open. "Okay I was right that bill is haunted." I tore open the next one but it remained shut. I sat it down and back away. "Okay time for work."

Robert woke up the next morning. He was still dressed in the clothes he had been wearing last night. Must have fallen asleep unintentionally. It had been a very strange day. It was far too much for him to take in and, even now, he wasn't sure he had taken it all in.

Standing up, he went through the normal morning routine of getting properly dressed, breakfast, and reading the paper. His mind kept jumping between last night, and the next day, when he had to return to work.

He felt... cold.

Greg looked at Lily and wondered what he could say, what he should say to anything that she had said to him. He knew what he wanted to say to her but he did not want to take things too far too fast. He pulled his coat around him and felt how cold he was and wanted nothing more than to be in his home right now so that he could jump under a shower and warm himself up.

"We should get out of this nut house. I know that Elliot brought us here for our own good but I think things have gotten far too weird. Let us get out of here."

He wanted to ask her where she wanted to go but he did not want to do that right now as she barely knew him and he did not know what she felt for him. He knew what he was feeling, he wanted to get to know her alot better but he did not want to say that - not just yet.

OOC: ok people, sorry Angelus but i have to move this along.......sorry i have to borrow your character some......we said our awkward farewells and each returned to their home. I'm going from the next day....once again Angelus, sorry....

Lily woke up the next morning, she groaned and rubbed her head slightly. Did she really have to wakeup every morning with a headache? Rolling over in bed she saw, with some reservation the empty tequila bottle lying on her bedside table. Yes, she decided, if she kept living like this, she would wake up with a damnable headache.

Vivid flashes of last night ran through her head, she remembered, in detail, due to her photographic memory, Elliot......her hand bursting into flame, stormclouds, a man wearing seafoam, a disappearing man, a nice, kind man, a man named Greg.

With a sudden vengeance she hit herself in the forehead, "Damn, you stupid dolt, you forgot to get his number...." she sighed. Then groaned as her slap instigated a migraine. Then her other hand burst into flame.

She looked at it, not quite fully awake yet, with a hint of mild annoyance. The flames quickly spread up her arm, she would have to get out soon, otherwise she'd burn the bed, again. She sighed and made her sleepy way out of bed. Walking into the hallway she raised her flaming hand above her head towards a small red sensor.

She grunted slightly as the sprinkler system kicked in. Sure, she could have easily jumped under the shower, but her bathroom was all the way at the end of the hall. And she would probably be covered in flames by then, it wasn't worth it, so she set the sprinkler off. As she did every morning.

She stood alone in the hall way, arm raised to the sprinkler system having her early morning shower, as she liked to call it, her morning ritual.

For some stange reason she stood there for a long time afterwards, chanting to herself, We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas......

She smiled inwardly, yes, she was going mad....

((hmmmm. I'm going to jump even slightly farther ahead, but I'm posting slow, so you all should catch up with me pretty fast ^.^ One hopes you all will, anyways. If not, I can always postpone my posting til you all do. 'Specially since I need Raven ^.^ So onward two day two after getting powered up...))

Melissa woke up. Her legs were throbbing with pain and felt...she couldn't really think of a word to describe the feeling. It felt like a mild grinding of pressure in her knees and something not too far off from a cramp in the rest of her legs. Sleepily she sat halfway up to massage the cramp so she could get back to sleep, but once her hands made contact she came fully awake. She had shaved yesterday. Hadn't she?

She looked down at her own calf and mentally froze in place. That couldn't be her leg. She was small, for one thing, and not especially well-muscled. Plus, Melissa knew, she wasn't covered in hair. A thin, blonde, downy fuzz covered almost her whole leg, and her legs were both longer, thicker, and rather misshapen. Come to think of it...

She turned her arm over and came close to panicking.

Melissa closed her eyes a moment to try and stop herself sliding down the slippery slope to hysteria. She had to be dreaming. What time of night is it, anyways? She opened her eyes long enough to note that it was actually seven-thirty in the morning. All right, she had to be crazy then.

She tried to stand, succeded, and then wobbled there for a moment - next to her bed, eyes closed, breathing with a forced calm - before collapsing. Against her will she was crying, panicking. She thought of anyone at all she could go to, anyone.

Nick.

She pulled herself to standing, the strain of the effort reawakening the strange headache she had endured the day before with greater pain that previously, and made her way clumsily for the phone, supporting herself on chairs, tables, walls, anything that would hold her.

Ike in the motel, reaches out and touches someone...

Ike woke to a knock on the door. Groggily she pushed herself out of bed and answered it. Housekeeping was outside.

"May we clean?" an accented voice asked.

Still half asleep Ike pushed the door the rest of the way open then turned and saw Ryan's blanket covered body.

"Wait," she told the motel staff. "My friend is still sleeping. Can you come back later?"

"Sure." The motel personnel moved to the next room down the walkway.

Ike closed the door, "Ryan, time to get up. Do you want anything from room service for breakfast?"

Ike reached over and pushed against Ryan's shoulder. "Hey, this is your wake up call."

Ike poked Ryan again. His body seemed a bit... stiff... She gingerely took the edge of the blanket and pulled it back.

Ike jumped back with a squeal!

She moved closer to the form that lay in the bed, her eyes wide with shock. Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t, she thought. She backed up from where Ryan lay and stumbled into her bed. She was hyperventilating.

"What do I do?" Ike mumbled to herself. Tears welled up in her eyes. Her hands covered her mouth, "Ryan is in this state because he was trying to protect me."

Ike curled up into herself and cried.

Half an hour later when she had managed to get her tears under some control Ike thought about who to call.

There was only one person who might be able to help. She hoped he had a place set up for them somewhere. Otherwise, where did Elliot think he was going to put his contract heros....

She dug through her purse, looking for the letter. She thought his cell phone number was on it somewhere. Her hands were shaking badly. Ike finally dumped the contents of her purse onto the bed and rescued the paper.

"Now what do I need to dial to get an outside line." Ike punched a few numbers on the dial. "Come on, come on... Answer your frickin' phone Elliot!"

When the voice mail prompt started Ike rolled her eyes.

"Uh, Hi ... Elliot, it's Ike. Can you please come over to the motel 6, uh, the one closest to the school. Um... It's Ryan... I uh, don't want to go into details, but he seems to be very um... just get here as soon as you can. Room 107. Thanks."

Elliot had also given her one of the cards from Matt's wife... and Daniel... Ike had forgotten to get other people's contact information once things had started happening. How she was going to explain all of this to them she had no idea....
