Democratic Debate

They may be, but the fact that the lead candidates are actually boycotting Fox really makes you wonder what they are afraid of. If what they espouse is truly better for America, it shouldn't make any difference who runs the debate.

If the Republicans were doing the same thing to CNN or MSNBC, I'd call them out on it too.

If Fox were a real news organization and not the American Pravda, I would agree with you.

Richardson doesn't seem to be offered the same amount of time as the top 3.
There some loon that seems to be getting more time than Richardson. I don't recall his name. Silver haird, pudgy, glasses.

His name is Mike Gravel, best known (if that's the right term) for having been a senator from Alaska. That's right, this guy is so old that Alaska was voting for Democrats back then.

As someone who's not especially a fan, I have to say that Clinton is doing a decent job in this debate.

Richardson is kind of like McCain in the 2000 primary in that he is probably the best candidate that does not have a chance of winning the nomination.
I think you're right, and it's a damn shame.

Democrats aren't scared of Fox. Fox is not a legitmate news channel. It's the propaganda arm of the Republican Party. They are reckless and do not deserve to be respected as a legitimate news source.

Fox news reports lies like:

Obama attended a madrassa
Mark Foley is a Democrat
Scooter Libby aquitted (when the majority of charges were guilty)

A Democratic debate on Fox would consist of probing questions of Clinton's marriage, Edward's haircut, and why do the canidates love terrorism and hate our trooops and America.

I agree about Clinton. I don't like her much either, but she sounds good, well-informed.

I agree with this.

Also: Clinton has done quite well, I think. Fairly witty, as well.

I happen to think there is bias in all news channels, because some conservatives call CNN "Communist News Network" (and do not like New York Times of course) and some liberals (if not most liberals) say FOX News is the propaganda arm of the republican party.

Be as it may, we are fed propaganda 24/7 all over the place. "Buy this car!", "Vote for me because of a,b and c!", "Drink Coke", blah blah.

As for the debates, I must of have missed it, and as for Dems to be afraid of FOX News, I do not think they should be afraid of FOX News especially if they believe they are right and can face the issues head on including the haircuts, the marriages and why they "hate" America. If they answer those questions, that shows they have the guts.

Top prorities for the first 100 days:

Clinton: End the war
Obama: End the war, healthcare
Richardson: Education
Biden: End the war
Kucinich: A whole shitload of stuff
Gravel: Tell the congress to show leadership
Dodd: Restore the constitutional rights to the people.

With all the serious problems facing the U.S. and the world why would anybody serious about about solving them, waste time debating haircuts.

...because obviously some are interested in knowing "why" someobdy got a $5,000 haircut, Clinton got a blowjob, or "hate" America. As you know, it is all over the op ed pieces and dirt digger reports. This is going to be one ugly race as with all presidential runs. Yes, I happen to agree there are bigger issues and haircuts are immaterial, but to not go on FOX News will only make Democrats look weaker in my opinion, and you will see conservatives say "Look! They are cowards! They did not go on FOX!" yet FOX claims to be fair and balanced.

Anybody interested in Clinton's marriage and Edwards haircut aren't serious about judging the qualifications of the canidates. Conservatives can say, "Look! They are cowards!" but they aren't going to vote Democratic anyways.

I have to disagree. They are going to have to answer the charges sooner or later, so why not get it out of the way? Yes, there are bigger problems, I agree with that. However, it seems to me, the haircuts and blowjobs seem to be the issue. And you are right, conservatives will most likely not vote for a democratic candidate. In my mind though, not going on FOX only shows weakeness and is fodder for Hannity and Bill O. "Haha, look at them! They are cowards!"

Double post; oops

Exactly the whole point of negative comments and campaigning is to energize the base of the party and try to turn out the vote. It also makes independents less likely to vote as they become disillusioned with the whole electoral process.

BJ's and haircuts are issues to people who will never vote Democratic anyway. Kissing the ass of people who don't like you and will never ever like you shows weakness, not guts.

I don't think answering your opponents' attempts at mudslinging should be the focus of serious debates.

I still disagree. BJ's and haircuts are the silly things some people will remember when going to the polls. I am not saying all, but it is interesting how small things can make somebody change a mind and not vote for said candidate. It is not just conservatives and liberals, there are moderates too. Lastly, it's a presidential campaign. There is going to be a lot of ass kissing.

Never get into a fight where all the odds are against you and no matter what happens you can't win.

Negative charges have to be answered but they should be answered on your own terms not on your opponents terms.

This is an excellent post. No true "impartial" media exists.

Which is why the boycott of Fox is all the more abhorrent.

Why can't we all admit that journalists bring their biases to the table?

Of course not. Again, this campaign is going to be very ugly, and it's going to be clawing and fighting all the way to the end as always. Mudslinging and answering the mudslinging is going to happen sooner or later.

Anyway, I'll shut up now.

I agree with this - they can be answered, but by press releases or statements, /not/ as the focus of a serious debate when candidates are attempting to present their plans for addressing important issues.

Elevating things like that to the level of importance of things like Iraq, immigration, and health care would be dispicable.
