Did you know...

... that today is the birthday of the Earmuffs? Chester Greenwood, a Farmington, Maine teenager, was awarded patent #188,292 on this date in 1877 for his invention of the earmuffs. And from the looks of the weather this year, an extra special thanks should go out to Chester!

I hope this means warmer weather is headed this way!

Yeah, I'll second that and now, a message:

rare occurrence here......rest of the week is back to the 40's and rain.......

Good afternoon {{{Bear}}}} Yes we are supposed to get colder and have some liquid precip; still that doesn't have to be shoveled.

Now it is worrying about flooding if we get too much too fast.

Yes it is DGO ~ So far it has been a slow melt and so no flooding. Just have to hope that continues and that any rain isn't too much.

Any snow still left by you?

No the snow is all gone but we still have flood warnings. :(

We will be getting some especially if we get the rain that is forecast for Monday. What will make it really bad is if the ice hasn't melted on the rivers and they become blocked by ice chunks... :( I recall seeing tugboats breaking up the ice on the river in downtown Milwaukee.

The rivers here rarely freeze over because of the traffic. My great-grandmother told me about the times when the river would freeze over and people walked across the river from St. Louis to East St. Louis.
