Zack and Doff: I was worried about offending you, so appreciate your responses. I do get what you're saying, even as both a minolrity (now in the majority at least numbers-wise) and a woman, but my reality is that there's so much to be done still re. equality. I personally could not oppress someone to get ahead, but I understand the process that needs to be lived through on a grander scale. It's history in the making, eh? Someone always pays for what's worthwhile. Women have paid for centuries and it either irks or amuses me to see how fast men become defensive in the particulars of the day. Just saying.

It's so funny, how desperate some men are to prove women's lower intelligence. Once upon a time, scientist argued that the weight of the brain determined a person's intelligence. When further studies showed that this would actually weigh in to women's favour, the scientists quickly abandoned their theory, and instead said that it was the size that mattered. When it turned out that proportionally, women and men were pretty much the same, or women even had a small advantage, they had to abandon that idea too...

I've always thought it funny to see how quickly scientists will abandon any idea that doesn't prove that women are in any way of lower value than men.

On the other hand, I have witnessed incidences such as snooper describes, which illustrate the differing importance men and women place upon their careers. One big project I worked on, two women and two men, came down to the wire with major problems. We absolutely had to get it worked out before a major trade show. Unfortunately, during the last week of the project, the women couldn't stay past five o'clock because of "child care issues" (they had to get the kid from day care).

Me and the other guy finished the project, on time, by staying to midnight every night that week. I would have liked to go to my Thursday night poker tournament, but to suggest that would have been ludicrous.

Yes, it would have been ludicrous for you to refuse to let the women go and take care of their children, just because you wanted to play poker with your buddies. Good for you you didn't.

You don't have any kids, so apart from not being able to play with your friends, there were no real loss for you to have to work overtime. I don't know about the other guy, you don't mention if he has any kids or not. If he does, I can only assume from your story that he also had a wife or girlfriend who took care of them when he was working.

Again, your story doesn't give all the facts I need to make a fair judgement, so AGAIN, I assume that the women who left on time to go and get their kids, either were single mothers, or were married to men who couldn't get off their lazy asses to take care of the kids when their wives had to work overtime.

Either that, or the women really were so uninterested in their career that they let a petty thing like taking care of a small living creature take priority over your very important job project.

PS: Men think women were put on this world to follow them around and clean up after their messes. This comes from the Bible where it says God made Eve from Adam's rib as a help mate. Of course you can't help them if they don't learn from their mistakes, and God never said we had to walk behind them, now did he. With all this debate on divorced parents, this is why I am against divorce. Period. I don't care if the man's an abuser. If he kills his wife, then it is his loss and also faces the society (ge it the judicial system or his general reputation.) If you don't like this, don't get married.

I sound like I come from quite a small community. I am... please forgive me and my expectations that people will know the history. I just hope the justice system can deliver the branding of those who have commited the crimes.

And just as much of a loss to them if she stays- a loss of feeling secure in there own homes, a loss to the ability to grow up and not see that as normal, and to not have a totally fucked up idea of what love means and how they deserve to be treated as a person.

I dont' care how small the comunity is. Abused women need to get out. For themselves and their children, and for society. The last thing society needs is more people fucked up so badly that they think love equals broken bones and busted faces.

I never viewed the gossip as that, never beauty parlor (since I have never known any women to go to a beauty parlour or anything like that), but at school the gossip is as bland as anything. Most women, if not all the women I know have been bored to hell by politics and sports.
