I miss Sheffield Wednesday though....they were always an easy 6 points for the Reds....sigh

Steady on matey!! I'm half Irish , half Welsh but born and bred in Cheshire!!! Dad was brought up in Liverpool and I swear he never stole owt!!


........we also lie a lot up north!!

Nice beer in Sheffield though...went on a pub crawl with a gang of college lads back in '74 - maybe I met yer Mam !!

Have a great trip and remember in NZ they buy beer in jugs! It gets worse too - you drink it out of TINY glasses...really effeminate!!

Last tip....sit by the pisshead , then you'll get yer share of the jug !!

Half Irish then you can't be all bad - I was in Ireland playing golf a couple of weeks ago, great people.

'74 you say - forget my mum mate - you could have seen me. The pub crawl you did wasn't down West Street was it? Known locally as the West Street Shuffle. In my day there were 21 pubs from beginnig to end! We had some great times, lot of the pubs are now bloody wine bars.

By the way, you're only 4 years older than me by my reckoning.

Wanderer, I understand the sentiments. It is interesting to see how passionate folks across the pond are about their football. Makes our fans here look comatose!

I will never forget, my first trip to the UK 20 years ago. Was drinking in the hotel bar in Aberdeen asking the bartender if there were any local football matches I could go watch the following day. Two hours and many pints later, he had made some calls, had a friend drive over to the hotel and bring me a uniform along with directions to the game! They let me play with their club team and it was AWESOME. I did not score, but did have a rocket shot that rattled the post and drew praise from my teammates.

It is now looking like I will be heading over to the UK in mid November (London area) for a few days and will definitely see about locating a local game while I am there.

I work in London but live in Sussex about 40 miles south, there is lots of local football in villages around where I live. You certainly wouldn't have much trouble getting a game even if its just a kick around in a park.

Crawley is just up the road from me.
