Does American Politcs affect you?

makes it very clearn who the BIGOT in this thread is.

Yes, I think everyone reading this thread knows EXACTLY who the real bigot in this thread is.

Your statements of "Adopt the American way of life" show quite clearly that you believe that every one comming here should have to drop all their culture and become typical, white bread, middle class America.

But guess what, "Variety is the spice of life" as they say. If some one comming to this country wants to keep their culture in tact, who the fuck cares? It's their choice, not yours. Does anyone tell you what customs you have to practice? No. What gives you the right to dictate what customs they celebrate?

And another thing, you keep going back to complaining about the illegal immigrants taking all the low paying jobs and not contributing anything back to the country. At minimum wage, they would fall under the poverty line and be paying next to nothing in taxes any way. So that issue isn't even worth mentioning.

It's clear from reading every post here that your concerns are entirely based around yourself. Concern for your property values, bitching that the kid working behind the counter doesn't speak English, worrying about a change in the "American Way of Life".

Get over yourself. Change happens, it's happening right now and it will continue to happen. Deal with it.

One other parting thought, racism has many faces, go take a good hard look in the mirror and you'll see one of them.

I live in NY. If I own a hand gun, I am a criminal, yet the constitution says I have the right to own a gun.

The 18th amendment made criminals out of more than half the population, If your great grand father was fond of taking a nip before he went to bed, odds are he was a criminal as well. I know my Grand father was. Fine upstanding gentleman, but made a criminal by law. Knew a lot of his freinds who were just as bad. All of them, spending time in speak easys, making homeade wine, gosh, a whole nation of criminals.

Yes illegals are criminals, made so by immigration law. That dosen't make them bad people, any more than taking a nip of bathtub gin made my Grandfather a bad person. Making his own homemade muskedine wine also made him a criminal, but he never shot anyone or belonged to an organized crime syndicate. Still, he was a criminal as were countless thousands of other americans. While history books are quick to point out the evils of the time, none that I have read say much about your average, everyday citizen being a criminal. Nor do they paint all drinkers with a wide brush.

Illegals are criminals so they are bad. It's a very juvenile over simplification of a very complex issue. I have illegals living right down the street. They run a bodega that caters to other illegals crammed into houses that ought to be condemend. But they are good folks, help each other out and help out in the community, couple of them are on the volunteer fire department's rolls.

When you paint with a wide brush, no matter who you are tarring, you set yourself up for charges of being bigoted. That includes such groups as criminals, considering most everyone you meet will have broken some law or other in their time.

Goodness. I hope that this attitude isn't what everyone believes that those of us on the border adopt. I'm in Texas, and while I do have the occassional frustration with not being able to communicate with people in my community I could just as easily earn Spanish. Probably more easily, in truth, because unlike many of the illegals here, I have a regular job that has dependable hours.

Frankly I think if you're going to crack down on the illegals taking money under the table and not contributing to the tax system, the logical place to start that is by cracking down on the companties hiring them. Then, when you're paying $3 for milk or $200 for having your lawn mowed, or even when getting your rat removed goes from $150 to $500 to pay a fully bonded American citizen to do it, we can listen to more bellyaching.

Do I find it upsetting that illegals are coming over here? Sure I do. Some of those people go through hell just to get over here, a lot of them die, and then when they do finally get here they get to have crap jobs and jagoffs ragging on them for trying to seek out a better life for themselves and their families.

And be honest, do you think they come over here and say, "Woohoo!! I love living 30 people to one house! Let's go make some white people mad! Isn't this great?" Pfft. Sorry. These are people who are admirably trying to make their lives better even though they have nothing. Isn't that the principle on which our country was founded on?

You want to help the situation in your neighborhood? Go over there and try teaching them some English. Take the the forms on how to become citizens and explain to them how to file. Take them food and maybe some bug spray if it's that bad. Just a thought.

When comments are posted by others on the various threads, I've noticed most of them are not from the US. So express your opinion.

I love discussing politics as well, but I don't discuss politics over the net. I prefer to chat about current events over a nice cold beer.

I agree with Perdita.

Psychocatblah has the right attitude to people who would like nothing better than the right to live, earn and pay their way like US citizens can.

We have the same problem in the UK. People who come here to do jobs that UK citizens won't do are suffering the same way. The enlargement of Europe has helped some - but now they are legal they don't get hired because they are too expensive.

I just shake my head that someone who has so much like a 700k house could look upon a house full of 30 people living in squalor and complain about a rat in their pool. Their POOL!

But thanks, I do try to help where I can. :D

Haha. I've never quite understood that expression. Being that the heart is the muscle that pumps blood through your system, wouldn't it mean that there's something wrong with the person whose heart didn't bleed?

as someone who is often called a bleeding heart, I share that confusion. My response is usually that I'd rather have a bleeding heart than no heart at all. One of my family members is a hard-core conservative...I'm the one with the bleeding heart, and he's the coldhearted bastard. ;)

This is a country of immigrants. The only natives are the Indians and we ruined their way of life. If you have a thing about illegals then I agree with the earlier post to take the forms over and help them become citizens. Teach them English.
Hell, they might even throw a few parties. Spanish style which are always fun to attend.
Oh but that's right. We can't have spanish parties, it's not American. Nor are the Greek Festivals, German Beer Fest or other ethnic celebrations.
Perhaps we should forget about the Vietnamese who ran here after the fall of Nam, or the ILLEGAL others who are escaping a life of tyranny, oppression and low income.
They're bringing new cultures of course. But not the American culture you wish.
My fiance is Aussie. I can't wait to get her here and show her the various cultures that exist within our community. And, I can't wait to learn about her burgers with beet root and pineapple. My neighbors are from Venezuela. They're here doing a job that is in demand. Not just a low paying job but they're aircraft mechanics. A job we have few qualified people for. They speak little English but are learning and in return I'm learning spanish. Are they illegal? I don't know and don't care. They're human. They cry and love the same as us. They came here for a better life.
That's what this country is about. Not the prejudice.

Are you sure you live in Alabama? Just wondering, cause so do I, and your type of attitude is rare here.....but so refreshing! I love it!

Yep, sure do cloudy. But I've traveled the world with 8 years of military service. When I was in Europe it disgusted me the soldiers who would go out and not speak german with the natives. Their attitude was we beat them, let them speak English. I'd go out and party with the Germans and learn the language. Needless to say, I had alot more friends and parties to attend. Many where I was the only American there. Hell I even got pretty good at soccer. We just never agreed on the term football and soccer. lol

Most Germans I've met insist I speak English to them. *giggle snorts* Evidently though I do try... and though at one time it was my minor... likely my Texan accent makes my German nearly impossible to understand. Maybe if I had more German friends around I'd be able to practice more. I really wish I'd chosen Spanish as my second language but the truth of the matter is that in High School, the German Club seemed always to have more fun.

Oh how delightful...the bleeding heart everyone deserves a FREE handout brigade has arrived in full force. Wake up and smell the roses.

1. Go over and hand out forms to people that have no right to be here in the first place...if I hand them forms, it will hopefully be a summons to appear in court.

2. Wanting to preserve the AMERICAN way of life is wrong...go tell that to all the soldiers in our armed forces. I'm pro-choice, support stem cell research, endorse the concept of gay marriages and have serious issues with pot being an illegal substance. On the other hand, have serious issues with groups thinking they have the right to come here, and force their way of life on us. I am a mutt, and celebrate various parts of my heritage, but first and foremost I am AMERICAN, and that should come first...if it does not come first for anyone else living within our borders, then they need to get the hell out of Dodge.

3. Rats in my pool...so, you think it is OK for others to over tax the property they are on to a point of creating a health hazzard for the neighborhood, but it is MY JOB to run over there and fix everything...again, wake up and get a clue.

4. Americans should now learn to speak Spanish...NOT. Read the rules for becoming an American citizen. You are required to LEARN THE LANGUAGE...it is time we fully and completely start enforcing that rule, rather than coddling and making exceptions to every person that wants to come running here for our way of life, but wants to hold on too their homelands culture and societal practices. If someone loves those things so much, then let them STAY PUT.

5. Illegals at the poverty level. $200 a day under the table wages for an illegal husband and wife five days a week comes in at over 50 K a year...that is NOT MINIMUM wage, and we have many people in states such as West Virginia, Kentucky and parts of Ohio surviving on far less than that who are bonafide legal citizens. So, stop with the pity the poor illegal immigrant who is being ABUSED by corporate America. $52 K a year NET gives these illegals a HUGE leg up on many Americans living in this country.

6. Indians being the smart ones...uhhhh.....most of the rest of the world already had sailing ships crossing oceans, guns as weapons, and great libraries of knowledge while the Indians were still riding bareback and shooting bows and arrows...not exactly the sign of a civilized technologicallyy advanced society, nor the sign of a group of people that was going any where fast in the big scheme of the world. If the English had not come to America, some other country would have, and the Indians would have still been conquered. This is not unique to this nation, but a pattern oft times repeated throughout the course of history. The Australians have much the same situation with the Aberingines, and if you go WAY BACK before and at the time of Christ you had the Romans doing basically the same things in conquering the Celtics and driving them out of most of the European continent. As the old expression goes, lead, follow or get the hell out of the way. Fact of the matter is, in the big scheme of life the Indians were anything but leading, and they were not following (read as assimulating) so they were forced out of the way. Shrug.

7. Comparing someone having a drink during times of prohibtion to someone guilty of a host of crimes against society is absolutely ignorant. A legal American gets audited, and even for an honest mistake is RAKED over the coals by the IRS, and yet you want to simply look the other way when illegals are yearly cheating the sytem out of billions of dollars in tax revenues as a group and say they are just trying to get ahead. PLEASE. Tax evasion is a serious crime, ignoring various health department rules and regulations in regards to housing is wrong, driving without insurance is wrong, and the list of crimes against society goes on. Each of those violations of the rules carries with it a cost that is being absorbed by and paid for by the greater society who are living here legally, and yet you wish to castigate me for pointing out the obvious. I sat in my own house, and unlike Bill Clinton inhaled...shame on me. However, what did that supposed violation of the laws of this nation cost anyone else? NOTHING. You cannot say the same thing about the massive disregard of American laws by illegal immigrants.

My pool....I earned it, I made my money legally, no one gave it to me, I took no handouts. I have a right to the preservation and enjoyment of the life I've built for myself. Roll your eyes all you want, but would bet dollars to donuts that you would be calling 911 if some unsavory group of people moved into your community and started running it down.

I have NO PROBLEM with those who have come here LEGALLY and are working towards building a better life for themselves. You seem to MISS that point entirely. When is breaking the law and entering a country via illegal means admirable?

I think it's fucking hilarious that this entire fucking immigrant debate is coming entirely from the East and overseas. New Yorkers complaining about illegal immigration? What the hell? My mortal form is pretty much on the fucking border. We get the crossovers and the police chases and the farming communities and gardeners who are paid shit or are deported.

So, my question is why are the people far removed from the real effects of illegal immigration arguing vehemently and clawing at each other while us over here on the border are looking at this thread and going "not even going to bother?"

Personally, I blame stupidity and ideology. Fuckin' politics man.
