There really was an American left in those days, but it was something separate, and itself not monolithic. (The American Socialist Party, traditionally anti-Soviet and zealous for the Cold War, broke up in 1972 over whether to oppose or support the Vietnam War.)

But my point remains: There is no plausible AH scenario in which the U.S. wins that war -- and in hindsight it was not even a war worth fighting. Eisenhower might just as well have let them have the all-Vietnam elections the Geneva Accords promised, even if it was certain Ho Chi Minh would win.

That's because you're ignorant. They surrendered when they signed the Paris Accords. There's no way they could have survived another massive bombing raid on Hanoi and Haiphong, They expended all of their SAMs and would have been defenseless against another B-52 raid. They had already suffered more than a million war dead. That's why they came to Paris. All else is left wing propaganda and Democrat bullshit.
