Electric cars.

Some 5 days ago BYD the worlds second biggest maker of batteries for EVs announced that their updated Blade battery now has a capacity of 180 to 190 watts/kilogram, an increase of 27% giving a range of up to 850 Km(530 miles) still charging to 100% The battery pack will be 25% lighter and having the higher mileage can be reduced further in overall size for urban applications. Batter prices have now reached the point where BYD are selling them to other car makers for between $55 and $60 Kw/hour. ICE vehicles cannot compete with this on price.

Not to be out done, CATL the worlds largest auto battery maker (40%), announced a few days later that their version 2 car battery had exceeded BYD's in performance and now has a capacity of 230 watts/Kilogram giving a range of 1000Km+ (620 miles). Even more interesting CATL announced that their new Condensor battery which was thought to still be in design has already been installed in a fleet of trucks and used to power a small commercial airliner. It will be used in cars in which instance it will fully charge in 10 minutes, have a range of 2000 Km and will operate with no more than 10% performance degradation at -20 celsius.

These technical advances will kill ICE vehicles.

Did you mean watt-hours per kilometer?

China has developed an EV hatchback that costs less than most used cars. I would absolutely buy something like that.

Dollars to donuts the blacktop mafia won't let us have them, of course. Same as how my state banned those cute little minitrucks that you see all over Asia. They'll cite some vague and ill-defined "vehicle safety" concern for why these things can never make an appearance on American roads.

NOOOO!!! EVERYONE HAS TO DRIVE AN OVERPRICED LANDSHIP THAT'S BULKIER THAN THE AVERAGE WORLD WAR II ARMORED VEHICLE!!! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD, DON'T YOU KNOW THAT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN DRIVES ALMOST AS BADLY AS THE AVERAGE ARAB!?

And while that last point is very fair concern, does it also mean that they'll eventually ban motorcycles too? Sad thing is, the answer to that question is probably yes.

The Chinese government is subsidizing their electric vehicles, etc, and flooding foreign markets with them to eliminate competition.

🤬

“Super efficient” is a silly sophomoric term.

High round trip efficiency actually means something, as does energy density.

Using electricity instead of gasoline opens the sources of transportation fuel to things other than fossil fuels. This model works.

Seriously, Harpy, you’re out of your depth.

Lol. It's like you think you actually know something.

I know for certain you can’t absorb or adapt to new information. You demonstrate that time and time again. That is one of the most indicative aspects of a highly intelligent person - you definitely aren’t that.

It's like you don't understand when I tell you that you only think you know something.

Yeah? Like how you know so much more about electricity… 🤣

I’ve provided support for my positions, both in authoritative sources and in demonstration. You provide opinions and insults.

You’re a clown. 🤡

🤬
The EU does the same, but no country comes close to the USA which has put $150 Billion of taxpayers money into the vehicle industry since 2009 Ultimately those subsidies seem to have stifled innovation in both the EU and USA.

CATL has an informative website which is worth a look for any technical information.

It also amazes me that none of our resident conspiracy theorists have picked up on the fact that an investment company of which Hunter Biden was a director made a $15 million investment in CATL which on sale realized $76 million!

I obviously didn’t express myself clearly, so:

https://www.wfae.org/energy-environ...-vehicles-why-cant-american-shoppers-buy-them

From the article:

“There's also, she says, "the Chinese playbook of 'let's subsidize and repress labor and get ourselves a foothold in an international market and take it over.'"

For instance, she says, the Chinese government heavily subsidizes China's EV industry to give it an international advantage. Wages in the Chinese auto industry are lower. And some companies in the Chinese auto-supply chain almost certainly use forced labor, or modern-day slavery, according to human rights groups.”

😑

FUCK CHINA!!!

👎

That’s no surprise. Nothing could get through your thick skull and into your rotted grey matter, especially not logic or reason.

You’re literally an anti intellectual. You vest your beliefs in your own opinions and cannot be swayed by new information.

Being an attorney is perfect for you because you’re able to fully invest in a position even if it is demonstrably false. You could not be a scientist because they need to be open to the introduction of new information.

You have demonstrated your obstinacy and lack of intellectual integrity. You have shown that this is who you are. I believe you.

Yep, Derpy lost that round…badly…

👎

Definitely a two point round for AB.

👍

👉 Derpy 🤣

You poor poor man.

You poor little simp.

Too bad you don’t have the integrity to objectively answer legal questions. You could actually be a worthwhile resource of information during these litigious times.

Nope. You’re angry, willfully ignorant, and useless. 😢

Much lower speed limits may become standard as fuel prices climb. When all automobiles are slower, they can be much lighter and simpler with less concern for crashing. I might like a minitruck, but maybe with bigger tires. Road maintenance costs energy, so roads will get rougher. Sitting over the front axle would be an asskicking.
Been there, tried that, Sam wrote a song about it

And

55 went away

You really should go back and rethink your entire post.........

Let me help. I'm an uncle, I have a country place........no one knows about. You know it used to be a farm. Before the motor law.

On Sundays they elude the eyes and hop the turbine freight......to far outside the wire where their white haired uncle waits...

My dearest Mad Max: if all you have is that piddling little shot gun you had bettered stay home!

Yeah, I was told in 1973 that all of the oil would be gone by the year 2000

Ahahahahahaha

Guess what. Oil isn't going away, cars aren't going away and the ICE isn't going away

Lol, just look at who's really the angry one in this thread.

Hint: It ain't me.

I’m not mad. You’re the sad clown comic relief.

Coal + natgas = 59%. And nuclear plants require external electricity sources for cooling, which renewables can't reliably provide 24/7. So EVs are still mostly external combustion vehicles. The coal/natgas mix will rapidly change since natgas is preferred as a cleaner fuel, so it's depleted faster.

Umm, it doesn’t matter what source the cooling power for a nuke plant comes from, as long as it keeps them cool.

The renewables industry has only been making a serious push for the last three decades, and the vast majority has only come online over the last ten years.

Are you among those who say the future is in the past? 😅

Floating power systems seem foolish to me. What could go wrong?

I feel the same about the small scale “safe” floating nuke plants. The idea is that since they are on the water they will always have cooling available, but what happens if something washes them ashore?

Yeah, no. Nothing is 100% safe. Not airplanes, not ships, certainly not any nuke plant.

Still, I doubt that floating solar array caused any damage to marine life. The only significant loss was for the investors who thought it was a clever way to avoid real estate expense.

Across the EU, electricity generation by oil, gas and coal combined is 38.6%, less than the 39.8% that the US produces from gas alone.

The 19.5% the US gets from coal is about the same as the EU produces from nuclear. Maybe people should ask their politicians why renewables lag so far behind the rest of the world and to stop worrying about Hunter's laptop. (That isn't going to happen, because 'owning the libs' is the most important thing in the world).
