Endless Curiosity

*new guest presenter creeps in late, muttering darkly about real life issues*

Okay! Who's up for another question?

*shuffles question cards and looks around for takers*

Fingers on the buzzers...

... hey! You over there! That's not your finger. And you can't use the buzzer like that. Put it back!

Is there something that you feel would make the board more interesting? It could be anything from chat actually being up and running :)p), to Lit-togethers, to speciality events like the Litties.

What sounds good to you? Think broadly.
:)

*runs off*
.

Oh boy...

I've actually run forums as part of my job before. *cracks knuckles*

So, I would add an in-forum notification system. Logging in it would look something like having a new PM. You would get notified for the following:

-someone using @ with your user name as Trekka suggests
-someone quoting your post
-someone liking your post (this of course means adding likes)

From the notification you get linked to the individual post.

The @ feature lets you pull more people into interesting threads, increasing user engagement.

Likes get people trying to make 'higher quality' posts to get likes. It also allows people to acknowledge a post they otherwise would have enjoyed but not replied to. That acknowledgment increases user engagement.

And being notified of quotes also works to pull people into conversations. Again, more engagement.

Of course, people could turn off notifications (or any specific form of notification) in their control panel.

Also, as a forum admin (though not really a poster) I would question the efficiency of all the sub-forums. Like, do we really need the darkroom lounge, playground, and general board? A new user looking for generic chat will be drawn to the general board, even though that's the worst starting point. The PG is far better but it's buried from a UI perspective. So I'd probably combine those three forums and then work to actually moderate it, moving the political threads to the political sub-forum and banning the outright trolls.

Also, I would seriously look into getting the ban on 'hardcore' porn removed. Porn sites exist within the law. How do they do it?

Again, that's from a traffic-driving, money-making persepctive. I'm generally cool with things. But would love a like button and notification for quotes.

 I don't suppose you offer tutelage on the iPhone....

My luck, I would get sucked off in that closet and it would turn out to be Lunation.

I would love to see a thread where we would portray another Litster...as a homage, as gentle satire, as a pure flame, whatevs.

How did I miss this?

Yes, I'm for this idea as well.

I'd like the option to hide my posts from the users of my choosing. Sort of a reverse iggy.

Yes! Sort of a cloak of invisibility that you get to select who it works on. They'd catch the faintest hint of your perfume as you post past them. Driven mad by knowing that you are near, but unable to see you.

Works for me.
