Endless Curiosity

*reads from prepared script*

Hi everyone! To start off the weekend, it's audience participation time! :D

To keep the mental ball rolling from yesterday's question about changes to Lit, go and post today in a thread that you've never visited before. How was it for you? Let us know!

*offers asbestos trousers to anyone planning to visit the GB* ;)

Alternatively, tell us about a thread that you'd like to post in but that you don't, for whatever reason. Feel free to tell us why not!

I already post in the GB from time to time.

Pre-emptively accomplished!

Oooooooh! Hmmm. I think I'm going to lose my mind and jump into the GB. Probably some little corner where I can hope to remain unnoticed, and relatively unscathed.

This may well not happen until later in the day. But I will be back! :p

And, done. Link.

Not exactly riveting, but I am...kinda exhausted. All I got. :)

Did everyone make it back here unscathed after posting in unfamiliar corners of Lit? ;)

*dons sunhat to protect himself from ydahecnot* :D

The summer is upon us! Summer and its rituals. What are yours? They can be current, or childhood memories, or even an aspiration that’s just lurking in your head. Tell us how you plan to spend the hottest months!

† For those in the southern hemisphere, same question but for winter instead of summer
.

So yesterday I was tasked with posting in a new thread. I didn't do it. But I will this week when I get home. I promise.

As for summers, that's easy. For over 50 years, my folks had / have a beach house. Many couples their age lived here, so there were many kids my age to play with. We all grew up together. Now we still come here, with our own children who are also fast friends. The cycle continues. There are beach parties, bonfires, dinners with friends, and music. Always music. Oh, and alcohol. There's usually some of that involved too. Best friends I've ever had, or will have.

My summer ritual is usually working my ass off. However, if everything goes according to plan, I will be leaving my second job in the middle of July. Then it will be all about resting more and allowing more time to do things with the fam.

My summer holidays were staying on farms and visiting various places. I loved getting up early and disappearing to the milking parlour to helping with the milking of the cows. The machines were very heavy and I was allowed to press the button to send more feed down for the cows. Pig farms are soo cute as well! One year I hanged out with a girl my age group helping her with the goats and staying round her place (converted long house for two families) watching tv for the two weeks. I came back home with a west country accent. :)

Reserved!

I will be back when I fire up my laptop! I'm so excited about this question and the fond memories of my childhood, that typing on a cellphone would stop my train of thought!

Okay! I'm back!

I LOVED summers! If I wasn't up at my nannie and poppop's farm, running through cornfields and exploring in the woods, I was out with the neighborhood kids and my two older brothers playing baseball pr dodgeball or riding bikes (climbing trees and buildings to jump from, but that's another story!) We'd go fishing with my uncle, and I was in charge of finding the worms. There were family get togethers every other weekend, and the picnic tables would be laden with crab from the Chesapeake Bay, corn, EVERYTHING! And by family, I mean all 8 of my mom's siblings, their spouses, my cousins! IT WAS AMAZING! In August, we all headed down to the New River area in Ashe County, NC where they were from for the annual family reunion on their mama's side. Yeah. HUGE!!! We'd stop to see my great-grandparents on their 33 acres of wooded mountainside and go hiking.

We moved to Georgia the year I turned 13, so things changed a bit. But, I still go back to Maryland and I still see childhood friends and my family.

*starts planning the next reunion*

Live music and a picnic dinner under the stars. During July and August the orchestra plays on Saturday nights at an outdoor amphitheater. You can bring your own food and adult beverages and sit on the lawn, under the stars. I try to make it there every other weekend.

I like all of those summer answers! I've even found out some things about tinglebliss that I didn't previously know. :)

We continue to wait with bated breath for BFG's contribution. Be patient! I'm sure that she'll reach her laptop eventually. ;)

Ok Ok Mr Mindfondler - please tell us something about your summer! ;)

BFG is waiting until we forget and then she's going to give us an ace reply! :)

Most of my summer memories revolve around the game of cricket, whether playing it, watching it, or listening to Test Match Special† on the radio. For a holiday spent in a particular location, I can usually identify the year from the Test Match series that England was playing in at the time. I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine exactly how sad or geeky that is. :D

† For the uninitiated, a peculiarly English programme that spends as much time talking about cakes, passing buses and other seemingly random topics as it does on sports commentary.

The milking parlor? Boy you were precocious.

I'm done! Thank you for putting that big smile on my face. I'm going to call my childhood friend to find out when she's coming to California!
