Obviously we don't wear tags as to which we are, so I assume you have to interact with people before learning which they are. Some may be obvious at first contact, but others may take longer to figure out. I assume.

I wonder where I fall? I fear I may be one of the Chronically Boring.

LOL 'Bored' not 'Boring'! I don't believe I've come across a single person who was boring to me... if you take the time to get to know someone, something interesting can be found in everyone.

But I have a peeve about the 'bored' set. "I'm on lit cause I'm bored." "Hit me up, I'm bored." "On IM and bored." Yikes. These are people looking for cheap entertainment, and the thing is, as soon as something more interesting comes along, there they go and any time you've invested in getting to know them. Yes, we all get bored sometimes. But I don't want to be a distraction to somone. There is nothing special in that.

Yes, sometimes you can't figure someone out till you interact. But I always read profiles, and a get a feel of postings... that will tell you a whole lot. And for those with little information, I usually just move on. The empty profile tells me that they don't have the time or interest to invest five minutes and put a face on themselves. Conversations will likely go similiarly!

And always, always, this comes with the disclaimer that there are exceptions to every rule.

Mean or shady has to do with the way people treat others. I guess you could say that's a judgement call.

I think everyone falls along various spectrums, and it's that unique mix that makes others attractive to us. It comes down to personal chemistry. For example. When pming and chatting on the threads, I have a preference to interact with those who use grammar and spelling reasonably well. If I'm limericking, I much prefer to do it with those who use the proper form and cadence. However, I might overlook that preference if I also find them witty, engaging or possessing other characteristic I find appealing which outweigh the negatives.

You're absolutely right, we spend our limited time with those who we most enjoy being with. Intellectually, sexually, or simply from an entertainment standpoint.

So very well-stated. And that chemistry is so important. Without it, even an engaging conversation will fizzle, and for no reason you can put your finger on.

That's brilliant. Especially the last category

I selfishly divide Litsters into ones I find attractive/appealing (men and women), ones I don't like and ones who don't move me either way. The ones I like, it's usually because they're witty, fun, intelligent (not necessarily in an academic way, emotional and sexual intelligence are alluring too, no?), they're often flirty, sometimes filthy The ones I don't like have usually posted something crass or mean.
