Endless Curiosity

We've seen many Litsters come and go. What kind of Litster are you? A forever Litster, a fast burner, or one that slowly fades away?

I think my tag says it all; I am a Ronin, a masterless samurai that journeys from place to place, searching for honor and redemption. I never know where the road may take me.

I’ve been here too long to be a fast burner. Besides, I did little aside from play in the BDSM word threads my first nine months on the board. Not exactly setting the place on fire.

Forever lister? Probably not. I’ll go with the slowly fades away option. My Lit breaks get longer and longer, and more frequent. My post count per day steadily declines….

I feel myself becoming wraith-like as I type. :p

Waxes and Wanes

First, I am so happy to see another question posted. I really enjoy this thread as it is different, and provides interesting insight to the thoughts of fellow Listers. :D

My crystal ball doesn't tell me if I will be here forever. Definitely not a fast burner. Maybe slowly fading away.

I think the best description is that my interest and participation on Lit waxes and wanes. I go weeks with high energy and activity, then I drop back and do very little for days, even weeks.

As others have said, I've been here too long to be a fast burner. At one time I thought I'd just slowly fade away. Now, I'm thinking I'm a lifer. I don't post as much as I once did and I take frequent breaks, but I always come back.

Lit is my "night out" when I don't want to get out of my PJs. It's my "venting at the water cooler" when I need a break at work. It's my "park bench" when I just want to sit and watch the world go by but I can't or don't want to go outside. It's my playground. At my best and my worst, I imagine I will always need a playground.

Well said.

So glad to see a new question, as I have missed this thread:) I find lately that I am slowly fading away from here. I don't visit as much as I used to, not because RL calls, but it just doesn't feel the same way it did when I first joined. Sometimes I go on a binge and post a lot and then I will step away for a few weeks, maybe months. As for being here forever, I can't say. I just take it one day at a time.

Me, I was never a real heavy poster. I Faded in very slowly and found my style, comfort zone and friends. Only then did I become, I think, a very consistent poster. Now I find myself on the other side, fading back out. Nowadays I lurk some and chat a little, but am feeling much less of a need to comment and post. Maybe the hole in my life that Lit filled doesn't seem as great as it once did. Maybe I'm just getting old . . . er and even more laid back. Maybe a shift in priorities . . . or a little of each of those things.

As Bob Dylan sang: To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven

I guess one can never truly say lifer, because I was an active poster on another board for more than a decade before I drifted and then left. I have been regularly active for more than four years here, and I foresee staying active, but one never knows. One thing for sure: I won't reappear under a new name. I can understand why it is done, and there are valid reasons, but I am all in as Y

Lol AF I think the mighty Dylan picked that^ phraseology up from Ecclesiastes 3:1 ;)

All this talk of fading away makes me sad! Tears and woe!

I think I'm a lifer, for better or worse. A streaky lifer, but a lifer nonetheless. Not always posting, often lurking, and my reasons for being here change with the wind but I keep coming back.

I second what VT said, and I'd also add that I'm a word nerd. I read, I write... and this place is a cornucopia of dirty linguistics the likes of which I cannot find elsewhere.

I didn't join into the forum chatter until a few years ago-- but I first started lurking on the boards about 15 years ago. Began reading stories here 20 years ago. I'm 36 (don't *cough* crunch those numbers too hard now!) and I've been around Lit longer than most of y'all!

Which makes me giggle... :)

I go through phases. Sometimes I feel like posting a lot, sometimes I don't. Most of the time, when I'm not posting, it's because I don't have a whole lot of time. I pop in and out, just lurking mostly.

Never say never, but there are still too many folks here who I would miss terribly if I left for good. If they drift away, I might too. But so far, I'm still here.

Good to see life breathed back into the thread. :rose:

I came to Lit for reading the stories. Reading and exploring my erotic boundaries. Then my curious nature began perusing the forums. Lit is my secret escape from my daily life - and that's good enough for me.

Like most everyone else here, I've been around too long to be a fast burner. Lately I seem to have been fading, but I would probably be here as much as ever if the people I've gotten to know and like bantering with were still around as much. If I do ever leave, I imagine it'll be with a whimper rather than a bang.

Many on this page for this thread, if they left then I would notice and miss them. Sadly, most threads have a lot of people I don't know. As time goes by I have less interest in getting to know new people. Could be because of the many fast burners or all the other pitfalls a place like this has on both friendships and relationships.

This place ain't Cheers, but it ain't all bad.

NORM!!!! :D

I guess I am more of a forever Litster... but only time will tell.

There are days I post a ridiculous amount - usually as a way to work off steam of dispel some other kind of energy, but most days I do a combination of lurking and posting in a more limited way on threads that I care about.

I have my usual places and there are people I generally expect to see... frankly I am so very grateful when they are around.

I do not feel the need to comment on everything. in fact there are few things that I do feel the need to comment on. Sometimes I feel compelled to say *something* --> occasionally this feels like this gets me in some version of getting crosswise with someone, but usually in the end I am glad I did, because it was me being honest and true.

The daily push to post on the Novella thread once we got going on it changed a lot of how I feel about posting. I think I feel a bit more protective of posting on the places I feel invested in, keeping track of the people I care about and less able or willing to flit about. I mostly track on the threads I have on subscribe and rarely poke in anywhere else. It is a bit of a fluke I found this thread today. (A result of keeping track of someone I care about. :))

But as I look back over this page of folks who have all been here so much longer than I, but whose voices I know, many of whom I have talked to a little or a lot, I am grateful that you are all familiar to me. So - thanks for sticking around. For posting. For helping to make Lit a good place.

Me too!

As Girly_girl mentioned, Lit has changed for me over time. Friends are gone or here less, threads lose their appeal, but I think that’s to be expected, at least to a certain extent. You don’t expect a community to remain stagnant.

The lack of interest in getting to know new people, however, does pose a problem. The couple of new people I have engaged with over the last year have been Lit regulars, just regulars I hadn’t gotten to know previously.

No clue as to the lack of interest....

I’m weird and moody, so that’s probably a factor. :p

But I think your fast burn theory has merit. I prefer to know I’m engaging with a real person.

For those litsters who have made that special connection, you've really hit it off, look forward to their pm's/e-mails or however else you communicate and *poof* they stop responding to you without a warning. How do you handle it? I know real life always may have a big part in that. Do you give them room and hope they get back in touch or do you let it die a slow death?

Ouch!!!
That one stings a bit.

You have to take it on a case by case basis. Sometimes it's real life. Sometimes you may have done something. Either way, it is a bit depressing when it happens.
